Preventing Multiple Logins

Hi all,

I'm using the "cache tecnique" to prevent multiple logins. Reading in this forum I have read the following code:

Protected Sub Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute(ByVal sender As [Object], ByVal e As EventArgs)
        If System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session IsNot Nothing Then

            If Session("users") IsNot Nothing Then

' This is after an initial logon
Dim sKey As String = CType(Session("users"), String)
' Accessing the Cache Item extends the Sliding Expiration automatically
Dim sUser As String = CType(HttpContext.Current.Cache(sKey), String)

        End If

    End Sub

                ' Multiple Logins check
                Dim sKey As String = txtUsername.Text + txtPassword.Text
Dim sUser As String = Convert.ToString(Cache(sKey))
If (sUser Is Nothing) OrElse (sUser = String.Empty) Then

                    ' Login Permitted
                    Dim SessTimeOut As New TimeSpan(0, 0, HttpContext.Current.Session.Time

ASP.NET 5.0: Multiple logins and login types in default ASP.NET membership provider

What do you think about an ability of having multiple logins and login types to be attached to the same user? Let me explain this by showing how database schema can be re-factored to support this model:Remove [Password], [PasswordSalt] columns from [Users] database tableAdd [Logins] table with one-to-many relationship between [Users] and [Logins] tablesThis will allow one user to have multiple credentials attached to his or her account of different types such as Username&Password, Windows Live ID, Open ID from different providersYou will be able to restrict allowed login types and OpenID providers in web.config So.. do you think it is a good idea to add support of this model into ASP.NET 4.5/5.0 membership service?http://aspnet.codeplex.com/workitem/7149

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

How to detect and avoid memory and resources leaks in .NET application

Despite what a lot of people believe, it's easy to introduce memory and resources leaks in .NET applications. The Garbage Collector, or GC for close friends, is not a magician who would completely relieve you from taking care of your memory and resources consumption.

I'll explain in this article why memory leaks exist in .NET and how to avoid them. Don't worry, I won't focus here on the inner workings of the garbage collector and other advanced characteristics of memory and resources management in .NET.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.
