Unable to access files on web server, going crazy!

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a computer running visual web developer express 2008 that does not access most files on my web server. The file tree is there but when I try to open a file "unable to get file ----- from the web server" appears. I have uninstalled, cleaned, searched for answers but am not able to fix the issue. This happened 4 days ago. Other computers running same software can access the files. Linux RH-Ent web server (if it matters) Any help appreciated.

Web Service Unable to access Directory (Temporary ASP.NET Files) CS0016

QuestionMoving web service to a production level server. This is not a new server, but is new to running an ASP.NET 2.0 web service. No other websites or services existed on this server.

Installed .Net 2 and specified that ASP is registered for 2.0 using aspnet_regiis. Installed missing components such as Front page extensions. When I try to browse to the services asmx page I get the error saying that the process has a compilation error and cannot access the asp.net temp directory under the 2.0 Framework. I looked at the directory and it appears that the asp.net process and others have correct access.

Note a basic asp.net page will come up as well as a basic html page.

All comments are welcome.

Unable to change autogrowth properties of SQL Server 2008 data and log files

I have used the GUI and the CLI to attempt to change SQL Server 2008 log file autogrowth property all to NO avail. In other words, there are NO error messages of any kind, indeed the CLI reports that the command completed successfully. But re-examining the database properties shows that NO change was effected.

For the CLI command, I have used the following with dots filled in for my database and logfile:

Why doesn't this work? How to make it work?

Report Builder 3.0 unable to access SharePoint Foundation 2010 Report Server

I am having a terrrible time getting this to work. I have configured the SharePoint site and the SQL Servers involved to use Kerberos. That has been confirmed working.

I then configured the SharePoint site's Reporting Services integration (trusted account), enabled anonymous access and enabled report builder. I can launch report builder without any issues at all. The problem comes when I try to save my report. When Report Builder is started Items->New-ReportBuilder Report it opens and display in the lower left hand corner "No current report server." When I close the Wizard dialog and click connect I enter http://server.fqdn.net and I receive the following error:

Connection failed:

Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL, 'http://servername.fqdn.net/'.

Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server.

I have also tried http://servername.fqdn.net/reportsserver/. When I try that I receive a login prompt. When I enter my credentials it tries for a few seconds and then sends another login prompt. I installed the report server using default settings. The reporting services db is on the same server as sharepoint. The configuration and other databases are on a remote S

Access files on different server

Brief Description: I want to be able to use my asp.net application to access files on another server used as a file system(storing .pdf, .xls, .doc files etc.).

In Depth Description: Right now the web page has a gridview.  The gridview has links to documents using paths like \\servername\filename.  Our server guys said that this method would be using a CIFS protocol and would not work.  That we would need to set it up so that the application accesses the file through a service account or something.  Does this make sense to anyone and can any provide a more in depth explanation.  What would we have to change programatically to have our .net application access files on another server?

Accessing Excel\Access files through Sql Server 2008 R2 Stand 64 BIT

This has been just such a pain with 64 bit! Data Access!!  I have been unable to use linked servers from SQL server to access files because there is no Jet 64 bit. Now, I have been using bulk insert statements.  These are working ok, but for some uknown reason, for a certain .csv file I am getting unexpected end of line errors.  I have tried many things to no resolution..

How can I get linked servers to work with SQL Server 64 bit for excel and access?  Why would microsoft leave this out??

Cannot connect 2010 Access 2010 Excel or PowerPivot to Mobile SQL(SQL Server Compact) - SDF files

I've believe I've installed everything to read Mobile SQL .SDF files.  I've insalled Sql Server Management Studio, Sql Server 2008 R2, .NET 4.0 Framework and just about everything else I've read to see the contents of an .SDF file created for what I read directly from these product sources as this DotNet Compact Framework is the greatest new SQL stuff on the planet.  I can connect using the Management Studio and see the TABLE Stucture easy enough and I can query using some simple SQL Commands from the Management Studio but what really bugs me is if this is all so wonderful, how come I cannot connect to what the SQL Server 2008 R2 Server type "SQL Server Compact" Authentication: "SQL Server Compact Authentication in Office 2010 Access, Excel or even "WOW" PowerPivot!  I've run across a couple 3rd party .SDF Readers - one that exports to Excel such as flyhoward.com  I'm growing old with all the work around import export stuff and just want to use PowerPivot to  excersise the data......or should I use something that actually works like Tableau??

Unable to access Site page having data from web part after restoring it to another server

I am trying to restore site backup to another server using following powershell cmdlet:

  • import-spweb -identity siteurl -path abc.cmp

Before starting restore I have created the site with template same as present on source server. After executing the command it did not displayed any error in the Management shell window. When I checked the log file it displayed 127 warnings and 1 error as follows:

  • Error: List Images could not be imported because it uses the DocumentLibrary base template and the destination uses the 851 base template.
  • Warning: User or group 18080 cannot be resolved.

When I am trying to access the page of the page library it is navigating to error page. This page contains Data form web part which is referencing the lists in the site. In the ULS logs I found following error:

  • PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00000005, have 0x400000300C231061

I tried follwoing resolution steps:

  • Provided the Full permission to the current user through which am accessing the site.

Still I am not able to fix the issues. Can anybody please guide me what would be the cause of these errors and what could be the resolution.

SSMA for Access 2007 SQL Server 2008 Unable to Register

I have downloaded and installed the SSMA 2008 for Access 4.2 QFE1.exe on my Windows XP and Office 2007 Ultimate laptop, and tried to use it, but when the License Management pop-up opens and I click on the license registration page link on Step 1 of the instructions, IE opens and goes to the RegSysProfileCenter and displays the error message "An unknown error occurred while processing your request. This is most likely due to a connection failure. Please try again."  Why is this happening.  What's wrong with the website/page.  An "unknown error" means there's no known cause.  What's happening?  I keep trying over and over and over...  I've also tried to use it on my other Vista machine, but it keeps wanting to install Access 2010 runtime files (Office 2007 is installed) which it can't download - so it fails there too.  This is really getting frustrating.  Please show me you are truly "Microsoft" and NOT "Microcrap", which is a growing trend...  Thanks.

dynamically adding sql server columns based on number of files in fileuploader

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")

Wrong Account being used to access files - Help - No Impersonation

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

There is NO impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs. In my web.config, I have <authentication mode="Forms">.

I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).

By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).

Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

Please can somebody assist, as I am worried.

Disallow Direct Access To Files

Here is my dilema, on my site i have a WordPress Audio player (http://wpaudioplayer.com/standalone) that plays my mp3's.

It loads the Mp3's in by javascript...example below:

       AudioPlayer.embed("audioplayer_7", { soundFile: "/Files/Music/[name of file].mp3" });

This file name is clearly visible in the browser source. Not a problem, however this means that any user can legitimately browse to the file directly and download it.

Now i still need the mp3 player (which is flash) to have access to the file but if a user was to try accessing the file directly, they would not be allowed access to it.

I am not sure how to go about this, i am circling the idea of a httphandler but not sure if this is sufficiant to stop the direct access to the file.

Any help would be appreciated

Upsize Your Database: Convert Your Microsoft Access Application to Take Advantage of SQL Server 7.0

What if you need to convert an existing Microsoft Access 97 database application into a true client-server application that is based on a SQL Server back end? If you know a little about Visual Basic and SQL Server, it's easy to make your app take advantage of the power and scalability provided by SQL Server 7.0. Using some concrete code examples, this article takes you step by step through converting the native Jet queries in your Access application into stored procedures and pass-through queries that SQL Server can use. You'll also learn how to pass on parameters when your client-server app calls these SQL Server stored procedures and queries.

Using Remote Data Access with SQL Server CE 2.0

Microsoft SQL Server CE edition is the database server built by Microsoft to run on mobile devices. Besides being a standalone database for mobile applications, SQL Server CE also allows you to connect to your desktop SQL Server 2000 and perform remote data access and merge replication. In this article, you will learn how to build a .NET Compact Framework mobile application using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and how it can perform remote data access using SQL Server CE 2.0.

For more information on .NET Compact Framework, see my previous article, "Developing Pocket PC Apps with SQL Server CE."
