editing gridview in a formview in a formview... yikes.

Oh dear - I don't know how it came to this but I could really do with a bit of help.I have a gridview which has editable columns. The gridview lives in a formview, which lives in another formview.Inside one column is an end date. This column has a textbox which gets it's value when I choose a date from a calendar control. However, when I choose a date from the calendar control, the program crashes instead of populating the text box. Here is the page and the selectedIndexChanged sub for the piece of work I'm trying to accomplish...dim rowid as integer Protected Sub Calendar2_SelectionChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) 'Assign value to textbox from Calendar Dim tmp As FormView = Me.FormView1.FindControl("formview3") Dim tmpgridview As GridView = tmp.FindControl("gridview2") CType(tmpgridview.Rows(rowid).FindControl("textbox3"), TextBox).Text = CType(tmpgridview.Rows(rowid).FindControl("Calendar2"), Calendar).SelectedDate End Sub Gridview2 is inside formview3 inside formview1I have included the whole page below, but the problem area is gridview2<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/myMasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="user_profile.aspx.vb" Inherits="user_profile" title="View Profile - A

Can't render FormView with EntityDatasource in Design Mode

Hi Guys! I'm not sure if I'm placing this in the right spot but since it has to do with Entity Framework I put it here.  Here's the deal.  I have a FormView bound to an EntityDataSource.  The FormView is a part of a user control.  In design view on the user control, the formview and the entity datasource show up as expected.  However once I put the user control in an aspx page, the formview won't show up.  The entity datasource shows, but the formview doesn't.  Instead I get this message in design view: "There was an error rendering the control.  Value cannot be null.  Parameter name: owner"  I don't have any parameters in my datasource or formview called owner.  Is it talking about the database owner. By way of comparison, I put a SqlDatasource on the page and tied it to a formview.  It showed in design view on both the user control and the aspx page.  So that led me to believe it has something to do with the formview being bound to the entity datasource.  I am using Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation. Thanks!

How to Insert Data Using EntityDataSource in FormView - C#

I am new to formview .My formview works fine, when I insert data into the database directly and then do an update on it. It throws an error when I try to insert a new record.  The error just says

"An error occurred while updating the entries. See the inner exception for details."

How to insert data into the table using an entity dastasource? Please help!!

New Record Button for FormView when GridView on same form

I have a GridView and FormView on the same form - it all seems to work OK connected up together.

How can I offer the user a "New Record" button / link directly when they hit the page? At present it's only when they select a record from the grid that a New link appears.

Also on  a related note, if the user deletes a record, I have the grid refreshing, but the deleted record stays put on the formview - can I refresh this, or lose the formview until they select another record from the Grid?

GridView - Update and Delete (using EntityDataSource) with ImageButtons above gridview

I create a gridview on default.aspx page (I used entityframework as my datasource).
I've tested CRUD operations by adding command column to my grid and this is all working OK.

I've added 4 image buttons (Insert, Edit, Delete, View Details) above the grid (buttons are not part of the grid).

Now I would like those buttons to work with gridview.

Here is what I have so far (for default insert);

protected void imgBtnAdd_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
            GridView1.DataSourceObject.GetView("EntityDataSourceView").Insert(new OrderedDictionary(), DefaultOperationCallback);

This adds new record to database with default values (set in database)

I believe I should work on "OrderedDictionary" to set correct values.

I plan to call Edit.aspx on record just inserted. (But I believe I should try something before asking questions)

So my question for now is:

How to perform those CRUD operations with those 4 ImageButtons?

End user linking many to many relationship - how to setup process in FormView / GridView / other?

Having a serious brain fart and can't seem to think of a way to handle the following:

Our business has 17 stores who all perform a nightly reconciliation comparing physical totals to our point of sale z-out reports.  They enter the data into a DailyReconciliation table.  This is all done by store management.  Then at our corporate office our asst controller takes each days receipt totals for cash, electronic check, Amex, and all other Credit cards for every store and compares them to the bank statement lines.  We are attempting to move to a manage exceptions approach in order to save time.  She's barely able to keep up with work load and we are looking at adding 6 new stores by the end of the year.  I've written SSIS package to upload the bank statements to a BankStatement table and perform a link to the receipt id from the DailyReconciliation table where the amounts match in dollar and transaction type and fall within an acceptable date range difference.  It's all working beautifully EXCEPT that sometimes the Amex totals on the bank statement include multiple days totals for a particular store.  I set all this up under the impression that it was a One to Many relationship (One DailyReconciliation receiptID to Many BankStatement bank_recordID -- in other words 1 store's reconciliation record for a day would include Amex tot

Inplace Edit in GridView

In this article I am presenting a different way to look at EditItemTemplate, using which user navigation for editing is reduced and . it looks very different (see screeen shots) then regular implementation of GridView.

GridView Confirmation Box Using JQuery BlockUI in asp.net

JQuery is the most popular JavaScript library. One of the main reasons for its fame is the plugin architecture. Anyone can create a separate library that leverage the JQuery library. In this article we are going to look at the BlockUI library which is used to block the user screen while performing a task.

Textbox Editable GridView in ASP.NET

This article describes how I made a fully editable gridview in C# using ASP.NET 2. The idea is that the GridView looks and works like an Excel spreadsheet. You see all the cells in the table, and you can edit any of the cells you like, and they are automatically updated (i.e. saved to the database). This is very often how people expect data tables to work in web pages, and I've often seen people clicking in vain on un-editable gridview cells, somehow expecting to edit them, and not understanding that they need to click an Edit button at the end of the row.

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

AJAX GridView Checkbox Select All in ASP.Net

In the previous article GridView Select Multiple Rows you learnt the multiple row selection in GridView control. Here you will get the C# code sample to select all the gridview rows using single checkbox server control. You can highlight the selected rows with different color and Font state Bold. If you want to use the selection values on different ASP.Net

AJAX GridView Paging and Sorting using C# in ASP.Net

To enable the GridView Paging and Sorting to update the GridView Data without refreshing the ASP.Net web page AJAX Extension controls are used. UpdatePanel is used to hold the GridView control that triggers the events for the controls placed inside it. By Default UpdatePanel triggers the asynchronous postbacks for its child controls.

Displaying Row Details Tooltip on GridView using JQuery

Continuing exploring JQuery! I decided to implement a feature to display some kind of details related to a row displayed on GridView. For example when displaying employees details on GridView some information might not fit in the GridView because it will make it huge and wide. These infomration can be diplayed as Tooltip. Or when you want to display a picture and some kind of formated text to be diplayed as tooltip when mouse hover on the image.
