Need help on Refreshing grid after deleting a record

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a form that when I click the delete button I want it to refresh the grid with that record removed from the grid. Does anyone know how to do this. Is this something handled in the code behind? Here is my code for the delete button on the design page:

<asp:button id="deleteButton" CommandName="Delete"
                    style="background-image:url('Images/Button.gif'); text-align:center;background-color:Transparent; cursor:hand; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; padding-left:15px;"
                    Runat="server" Height="25px" BorderStyle=None  ForeColor=White   Text="Delete"
                    Width="99px" CssClass="style3" onclientclick="return confirm('Are you surely want to delete this record?');"  />

My Grid is not refreshing like it should. It only refreshes through a hard refresh of the page (F5)

Here is the code. I have Javascript in there that runs after the save button on the ExtJS popup is clicked, that is supposed to  refresh the grid to show the uploaded files, but the grid will SOMETIMES show nothing, and sometimes show the files. It ALWAYS shows  the files after a hard refresh of the page (F5). Why is it doing this? <br/> <br/> <%@ Page Language="VB" Inherits="Web.BaseView(Of Lending.Controllers.Workspace.DocumentUploadData)" %> <%@ Import Namespace="WebControls.Forms" %> <%@ Import Namespace="WebControls.Grids" %> <script runat="server"> </script> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server">     <title></title>     <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">         function RefreshGrid(result, data) {             if (data.responseText.length > 0) {                 var obj = eval('(' + data.responseText + ')');                 if (obj.Result == false) {                     Global.alertError(obj.UserM

Deleting formatted record returns "Input string was not in correct format"

I have a bound data field, a detailsview, one of the records I have formatted to currency in the item template. Yet when I go to delete a record, I get a error message "Input string was not in correct format". Take away the formatting and the page runs fine. I tried changing the datatype from int to money, it makes no difference. Ideas?

Building a grouping Grid with GridView and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit CollapsiblePanel

I've posted an update to this post to apply on demand loading of Details data using ASP.NET AJAX PageMethods. I'm demonstrating the usage if CollapsiblePanelExtender client events on the new post. Check it out.

I admit, Matt Berseth is really inspiring me! Few days ago I pass through 2 of his great posts:

.Surrounding your Data Table and Dialog Controls with ComponentArt Styled Panels
.Building a Grouping Grid with the ASP.NET 3.5 LinqDataSource and ListView Controls
The first one is pure design tips one which I used for making good presentation of my demo here. The 2nd post is actually the idea.

GridView inline Master/Detail record display

This code drop is part of a smash and grab series. If you're in a rush, you can just grab this code and insert it into your application, no understanding is required. When you have some time (ya, right) you may want to review the source code.

Get Top 1 Record from Dataset

The below code is to get single record from a Dataset. Also I have given for getting 8 records at Green Color.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).

Does this look correct for saving a file/ new record to a database

So thank you for all your help so far, So I think i got this right,
but would like for you all to look it over to see if there is any
areas I might run into trouble with:

//using asp.net mvc 2
the table (sql server 2005, using entities framework)
table fields
"Pattern_Media_GUID  uniqueid
"Pattern_GUID  uniqueid
"Media varbinary(max)
"height int
"Width int
"Media_Type String (50)

the form:
<h2> Add Media to this pattern</h2>
<% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %>
<% Html.BeginForm("AddMedia", "Pattern", new { id= Model.Pattern_Guid} , FormMethod.Post, new {enctype = "multipart/form-data"}); %>
    <%: Html.Label("height") %>
    <%: Html.TextBox("height") %>

Pass a grid column value to a Modal

Hi, I have a requirement to hide a field called details on a gridview and show it in a jQuery modal dialog when users click on the Customer ID hyperlink. This grid is created programmatically. I will be hiding the details column via the CSS display:none property. Does some one know how can I pass the grid's selected hidden column value to the modal? Here is some of the code I started:

            GridView mygrid = new GridView();
            //.....................................More columns code for the grid

            //Here is where I need to pass the Details column value associated with the customer ID field selected to the Modal and open the Modal dialog.
            HyperLinkField linkField = new HyperLinkField();
            string[] dataNavigateUrlFields = { "CustomerID" };
            linkField.DataTextField = "CustomerID";

Why show only one record?

// Update these variables to values whatever you are storing in your table
        // If you are storing as CARD NUMBER, update this Card Number Attribute Name to CARD NUMBER
        string strCardNumberAttributeName = "Credit card number";
       // string strCardTypeAttributeName = "1";
        string strExpiryDateAttributeName = "Expiry date";
        DataTable dtPaymentDetails = new DataTable();

        string queryString = "SELECT tbl_Payments.PaymentId, tbl_PaymentDetails.AttributeName, tbl_PaymentDetails.Value, tbl_Payments.PaymentType FROM tbl_Payments INNER JOIN tbl_PaymentDetails ON tbl_Payments.ID = tbl_PaymentDetails.PaymentId WHERE ATTRIBUTENAME IN ('" + strCardNumberAttributeName +
                                   "','" + strExpiryDateAttributeName + "') ORDER BY PaymentId";

        string connectionString = "data source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;" +
                                           "AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|\\BurnbetDatabase.mdf;User Instance=true";
        using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
            SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(queryString, connection);
            SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteR

Can this code be setup to run against the whole database instead of just 1 record at a time?

We have made some changes to this code to start capturing 1 new field of data and updating it as new records are added. But there is currently about 120,000 records more or less.. those records of course dont have the new field populated with anything..

We would like to run this logic that already in place and run it against the tables to update the fields 1 time. I think to make it easier, if it can be setup to expect the "valueTwo" variable, so that we can run it againt the individual codes instead of doing all the records at one time.. there are codes that only have a few records, so it would be best to test initially against the small code group.

            strSqual = "insert into trans (trans_type_name, trans_date,sys_id,mod_user_id,show_ind, remoteCode, techName) values('" & valueTwo & "','" & TransDate & "',"&strSystemID&", 1,'T', '" & dbQuote(strUser) & "', '" & strTechName & "')"
            'get the new transaction_id out for just inserted alarm
            strSqual = "select max(transaction_id) as transaction_id from trans"
            set rst = getStaticRecordSet(strSqual)

Querying a db for existence of a record.

Can someone suggest, what is the best approach using linq to sql to do the following

1. Check if a row exists in a table for a given criteria and...

2. If it exists return a particular field value else return '0'.
