Cleanest way of setting max string length for text in GridView cells?

I want to make sure that each row in the table is the height of one line of text only.  I know you can set RowStyle-Wrap="false", but I also don't want any really wide rows.  I know I can go through each cell on RowDataBound or something and cut it to a particular length and then append an ellipsis on the end, but is there a neater way of doing the same thing?

Serious problem on UpdatePanel and GridView (Input string was not in a correct format)

I have implemented a custom gridview paging method using the pagertemplate tag. The source code is the following:

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">

Load XML data (string format - not file) into a gridview

 I need some help help loading some XML tagged data I received as a reply from a Web Service (String format), into individual fields on the web form.

After spending some time,  I was able to load an XML file into a gridview using this code...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
        <title>Empire Burlesque</title>
        <artist>Bob Dylan</artist>
        <title>Hide your heart</title>

Dynamically format string value in gridview

I have a gridview that is built  using a objectdatasource and set to autogenerate the columns based on that source, on some other pages i have a gridview that is built within the page with template fields and so on..

in that gridview i have a field that displays the time value like so

<asp:Label ID="lblstartDate" runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"startDate", "{0:t}") %>'

gridview image button's query string getting messed up

Hi i put this in a grid so that only one of the rows would have the txt box in it, it works ok ie the txtbox only shows up for the row with 1005 as the ID, but for some reason the query string for each row for the last element in the row, ie an AddToCart image button i have at the end of each row in the grid is not coming out right, ie the query string is missing when the page posts back for all but the last row of the grid which coincidently is the row with the 1005 ID, (the rendered code is shown way down, i apologize for the length of it ) here is the problem line. NOTE when i take the code out of the gridview on row data bound event then the page post back fine and the query string is there, but when i put the code back in the row databound event for the grid then the query string vars and values do not get posted back, clue greatly appreciated, thanks

While inserting this string"SC1101E,B+,", I get error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: ch

I'm using Microsoft Oracle Data Provider(System.Data.OracleClient). As soon as I get the string (SC1101E,B+,) in my input parameter, I get the below error:-

"ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"

Strange, as this same query works completely fine with my SQL client/toad.

The database type is varchar2 with 2000 length.  A lot of longer strings easily able to be updated. But as soon as above string get in the parameter, the code starts vomitting error. Please help.

string maj1string = "SC2212,B+,4,SC2204,B+,4,SC2220,C+,4,SC2203,B+,4,SC3205,B-,4,SC3211,B+,4,SC2205,B-,4,SC3220,B-,4,SC2216,B-,4,SC3213,B-,4,SC3221,B-,4,SC1101E";

OracleParameter[] parmschk_subjreqm;

parmschk_subjreqm[0] = new OracleParameter("V_MTHSTRING",maj1string.ToString());

Inplace Edit in GridView

In this article I am presenting a different way to look at EditItemTemplate, using which user navigation for editing is reduced and . it looks very different (see screeen shots) then regular implementation of GridView.

GridView Confirmation Box Using JQuery BlockUI in asp.net

JQuery is the most popular JavaScript library. One of the main reasons for its fame is the plugin architecture. Anyone can create a separate library that leverage the JQuery library. In this article we are going to look at the BlockUI library which is used to block the user screen while performing a task.

Textbox Editable GridView in ASP.NET

This article describes how I made a fully editable gridview in C# using ASP.NET 2. The idea is that the GridView looks and works like an Excel spreadsheet. You see all the cells in the table, and you can edit any of the cells you like, and they are automatically updated (i.e. saved to the database). This is very often how people expect data tables to work in web pages, and I've often seen people clicking in vain on un-editable gridview cells, somehow expecting to edit them, and not understanding that they need to click an Edit button at the end of the row.

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

AJAX GridView Checkbox Select All in ASP.Net

In the previous article GridView Select Multiple Rows you learnt the multiple row selection in GridView control. Here you will get the C# code sample to select all the gridview rows using single checkbox server control. You can highlight the selected rows with different color and Font state Bold. If you want to use the selection values on different ASP.Net

AJAX GridView Paging and Sorting using C# in ASP.Net

To enable the GridView Paging and Sorting to update the GridView Data without refreshing the ASP.Net web page AJAX Extension controls are used. UpdatePanel is used to hold the GridView control that triggers the events for the controls placed inside it. By Default UpdatePanel triggers the asynchronous postbacks for its child controls.

Displaying Row Details Tooltip on GridView using JQuery

Continuing exploring JQuery! I decided to implement a feature to display some kind of details related to a row displayed on GridView. For example when displaying employees details on GridView some information might not fit in the GridView because it will make it huge and wide. These infomration can be diplayed as Tooltip. Or when you want to display a picture and some kind of formated text to be diplayed as tooltip when mouse hover on the image.
