Cluster Installation

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have installed 2-3 times an active/passive cluster.

During the installation i entered only one IP (Virtual server ip) .

My question is how many ip addresses are required for a 2 node cluster.

SQL 2005 Cluster SP3 installation

I have been reading up on installing sp3 on a 2005 cluster and I keep seeing • Run the SP3 Setup program on the primary node of the failover cluster instance. Does this mean log into the Virtual machine name which of course is attached to the active node and then run the setup. Or do I log directly into the primary node (NODE A) and execute Setup?Question 2.  after setup is completed and ther server is required to restart.  Do I need to run the same setup on (NODE B) which is now the primary node?

Hi  I am ready with In-Place and went to Sr.DBA Manager, He rejected and he want 100% Database guarantee and 100% safe, down time does not matter for him and recommended me go a head with Side by Side. 1.If detach Database from SQL2k and attach to SQL2k8,I don't think  it is possible to attach back...is it correct 2. Is it required Create new cluster group for SQL2k8? 3. In 2 case what are the cluster groups I have to Create 4. Is it required to change connecting string from application? 5. If it is where i have to modify the connecting string in application level or in Database server level? 6. What are the settings can I take care after installing new sql server instance?  7. Is it required new virtual instance name for new installation (Instance)? 8.Is there any way to use existing virtual instance name for New instance?(so I belive no Need to change connecting string in application) 10.Is it possible to change instance name?(Old instance name to some other name and new instance name as existing instance name).  SNIVAS

SQL 2008 R2 cluster installation failure - Failed to find shared disks

The validation tests in the SQL 2008R2 cluster installation (running Windows 2008 R2) fails with the following error. The cluster has one root mount point with multiple mount points :

"The cluster on this computer does not have a shared disk available. To continue, at least one shared disk must be available'.

The "Detail.txt" log has alot of "access is denied" errors and here is just a sample. Any ideas what might be causing this issue?

Active / Active cluster installation

I have installed 2 -3 times a 2 node active/passive cluster  in both version of sql server 2005 & 2008.

Per the new requirements i have to install Active/Active clusters on both 2005 and 2008.

I have a few challenges in this regard.

1. Do i need to create independent sql groups, cluster groups and msdtc group based on the no of nodes.

2. Can i use default instance names on both the nodes.

3. Can i have multiple instances per node .(If possible means  can i map all the data drives on one node to a single sql group)

3. Any considerations need to be taken care from the memory perspective ? (failover considerations)

4. In an (N+1) multi instance cluster environment is there any possibility to choose the failover between the specified nodes.

It would be great if any one can point me in the right direction by providing any docs or any links or video links for the Active/active cluster installation.

SQL 2008 Single Node cluster installation fails on Windows 2008

SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition 64 Bit
Windows 2008 64 Bit SP2

SQL installation failed with this error message:

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error

Please let me know what the issue is.

I found 2 solutions in net:

1. Add new registry key named DisableLoopbackcheck under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\" and set to value 1

2. Set server principal name
