How to create SQL-login with permissions for view-only SQL-Agent-Jobs?

Could you please help me with resolving next problem: How to create SQL-login with permissions for view -only SQL-Agent-Jobs (he cannot create, modify or delete)? I am using MS-SQL-Server version: 8.00.194 In other words : how to create in version 2000 (8.00.194) the same as 'SQLAgentReaderRole ' in version 2005 (for more details see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188283.aspx).

Create report that lists every user with permissions for each folder

I would like to have a report that will list each user with it's roles for every folder. We have a very large RS database with a lot of folders, we need some better way to keep track of permissions. I created a report that utilizes "GetPolicies" from http://localhost/reportserver/ReportService2005.asmx but I have to feed a folder name to get list of users. I can also (by using subreport) list all folders with users. However, I am not able to produce a report where I have it broken by user. any idea?

How to set create-only permissions to publishing pages library?

I have publishing site where users can add their own pages to some libraries. I have problem with permissions when user creates new page. Here's how I set permissions: all users are added to members group (by default they can view pages) members group has view permissions also for master pages library For site where users can add pages I set the following permissions on pages library users can add view pages users can add pages When user adds new page then he/she gets automatically edit permissions for this page. So users can edit only their own pages. I found out that add permission is not enough - when user creates page then he/she gets access denied error. The minun that doesn't cause problems is approver permission to pages library (of course, now users can do everything on pages library they ever want to do). Is there any way to avoid making users as approvers?  They only need view and add permissions for page library and view and edit permissions for pages they added. They cannot do anything more. Approving and denying of pages is administrators job. With best regards, Gunnar Peipman   Also visit my ASP.NET and SharePoint blog!

User does not have required permissions to view Report Manager on SQL 2008 r2

Hi all, We are installing SQL Server 2008 r2 onto a server, and this installation includes Reporting Services. SSRS works, I can deploy reports, use Report Manager, Report Builder, etc., all using my admin privs. The problem is when NON-ADMIN users connect to \\server\reports.  They get the following error: User 'DOMAIN\user' does not have required permissions.  Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. This error is resolved by giving the DOMAIN\user account local admin privs on the server. Granting admin privs is not a solution.  We have accountants and other non-technical people that will use Report Manager and Report Builder.  We can't just give every person admin privs on the production SQL server. I have done a lot of research on the web... I see a results involving earlier versions of SQL Server and Report Manager, but this is 2008 r2 - different webserver, etc. How can I resolve this issue?

does not have required permissions

I am running vista home + sql express 2008 + reporting services.  I installed everything using window authetication.

Everything was working fine.  However, now when I try to go to RS http://bvp-pc/Reports_SQLEXPRESS/Pages/Folder.aspx I get an error:

User 'bvp-PC\bvp' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.

Can someone point me in the right direction to fix this?  thanks

Pass delivery method, email address to create SSRS subscription using VS2005

I have created SSRS reports and built a user UI to run these reports. Now when creating SSRS subscriptions in report Manager, is it even possible to programmatically pass the delivery method (email or file share), To email address, scheduled time and date, etc from my front-end UI to the Report Manager?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Create Alert permissions

I have a site created from a custom template with a few lists on it. It inherits permissions from its parent site collection and the Contributer role did not have a permission to create alerts on lists. I set that permission to allow and the option under list alerts is clickable now but when i click it i get an access denied message in the modal pop-up window instead of the create alert dialog.

Any help on resolving this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Required Permissions for SQL Server 2005 DB and Impersonation

I have an Intranet ASP.NET WebForm application that uses Integrated Windows authenication and Impersonation (required becuase triggers are used to create audit logs) to connect to a SQL Server 2005 DB on the same box (no double hop issues). Normal users get their DB permissions via the <Domain\Domain Users AD group, which has a SQL Server login and a user created for the DB.  Everything works fine when I explictly grant the associated DB user CONTROL permissions on the DB.

However, after doing more research on the actual permissions granted via CONTROL, this seems to be way too much access.  The best decription of the CONTROL permission I found was at http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1718, which states, "This grants the equivalent to ownership over the database. The db_owner fixed database role has this permission implicitly."  However, every other DB permission combination I've tried without granting CONTROL always fails to connect to the DB.  Impersonation is working, the correct accessing Domain/User is referenced in the error message.  The approriate User in the DB is in the db_datareader and db_datawriter roles and when I explictly grant them every single permission on the DB except CONTROl they fail with a "

Fine-grained User Permissions, create and view with restricted edit rights

I'm running a Sharepoint 2007 installation which is slowly being rolled out through the organisation. We have a group of calendars which are shared between 14 executive PAs. I've been asked to lock down the permissions so that whilst any of the users can add items, only the user who created the item can subsequently edit this. I thought I could handle this by creating a new permission level with create and view rights only, which does what it should, however the user can now no longer edit their own appointments either.

Is there a way that I can give the item creator specific permissions on their item by default?

Creating a "my site" - permissions required

I had a problem whereby users connecting to my SharePoint site (user is authenticated with their domain account) couldn't access their 'My Site' or 'My Profile' - Access Denied errors kept occuring. It is a pretty standard installation of SharePoint, and the User Profile Service Application is fully configured and all authenticated users have permission to create a personal site. However, I found that all users (other than me as admin) could not access their personal site or profile.

After much searching about this, I found a solution was to grant all authenticated users access to "My Site" (http://server/my) site. Is this the correct thing to do? I was assuming it work by default and nothing I read suggested I had to do this. Only administrator and system account seemed to have rights the 'my' site by default.

Permissions required for "Copy..." function in "Manage Content and Structure"

Hi! I have a question...

I have created a custom permission role i sharepoint, lets call it "Creator". What List ans Site permission are needed to be able to use the "Copy..." function in sites and subsites in "Manage Content and Structure" tool in Sharepoint?

According to my tests the roles "Approve" as well as the "Manage Permissions" is required to be able to "Copy..". Why is this? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with each other.

Thank you for any hints and tips regarding this!!

Create exclusive permissions for a Wiki library

Hi All,

I would like to allow users "contribute" permission - but only for the Wiki pages within a site.  For the other parts of the site these users have only "read" access.  I have de-inherited permissions for the Wiki from the site and now I am seeing the following message:

"Permissions to view and edit files uploaded to wiki pages are controlled by the library the file is uploaded to, not the wiki page library."

What library is this refering to?  Where do I control the permission settings for the Wiki pages?

What are the required Security permissions to call SAM accountmanagement over the wire, using System

I need to perform remote management on the local SAM database.  I am getting a security permission error, but can't figure out what the required permissions need to be.  My test harness works great as a locally authenticated user however the permission issue gets thrown when I am trying to connect to a remote host that isn't part of the domain.

The exception is getting thrown on the call to ValidateCredentials, which is found in the constructor for the LocalAccount class below, specifically you will see it  public LocalAccount(string Server, string User, string Password)

My test environment includes windows 7 machines that are working in a offline mode trying to connect to machines running XP, 2003 and Windows 7 that are not part of the domain.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Create View permissions

Hi Everyone,

I hope you can help me.  I want to give a particular database user permission to create new views and then be able to subsequently alter those views.  However, I wish to restrict them from being able to modify any views that have been or will be created by any other users.  I hope this makes sense.  Any help will be very gratefully recieved :-)

Users with contribute or full control permissions cannot create pages

I've got a problem where users with Contribute permissions or higher - even Full Control (!) - on a site collection cannot create pages.

Site Collection Administrators can create pages fine.

The only way I can get users to create pages is to give them all Contribute permissions to the Master Page Gallery.

The Master Page Gallery, by default, does not inherit permissions from its parent site, it's default out of the box set-up is this:

Approvers  - SharePoint Group  - Read
Designers - SharePoint Group  - Design
Hierarchy Managers - SharePoint Group - Read
Restricted Readers - SharePoint Group - Restricted Read
Style Resource Readers - SharePoint Group - Read

Usually having contribute permissions or even full permissions to a site allows you to create a page without having to change the Master Page Gallery's permissions from the above default - we even have site collections which have these settings and work fine.

I don't want to give people unnecessary access to the Master Page Gallery - is there anything else which could be causing this issue?
