Moving the ReportSever DB

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We are going to move the report services DBs to a faster SAN within the same SQL server machine. Which would be the best way to do it?

I was thinking, stop SRS services, detach the ReportSever and ReportSeverTempDB, copy mdf and ldf files to new location and finally reattach.

Would that work?

Cutting Edge: Moving DataGrid Rows Up and Down

Imagine opening your Inbox one morning and finding a message that reads "Dear Mr. DataGrid, I urgently need an ASP.NET DataGrid that lets my users move rows on the client. You're my last hope. Will you please help me?"

Do not see the table in Database after moving the project folder

I created a ASP.NET project under Visual Web Developer 2008. Under that project I had a Database (along with ASPNETDB.MDF) which has about 3/4 tables (I had SQL server 2008). Everything was working fine (like insert, delete, etc.). And I was able to view the tables in database explorer view.

Then I had to format my computer for some reason and I copied the whole project in a USB drive and then after formatting the computer I copied the folder and tried to open it in Visual Web Developer (now I have VWD 2010). I can see the both Database under App_Data folder (ASPNETDB.mdf and the DB I created). ASPNETDB has all the tables and data as expected. But I do not see the tables under the DB I created.

I also tried in one of my friends computer who has Visual Web Developer 2008. But same result.

I am just wondering if anyone can help me with retreiving the table. I have a bad feeling that I might needed to do something to backup the data (not sure though). But the tables should be still there ... isn't it ?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Moving a website - URL aliasing question

Hi we are migrating a website from a proprietary system  to a new system built inSQL 2008.

The old  system has about 6,000 pieces of content with individual hard-coded aliases. How could we go about creating a match table to ensure these resolve with our new system (based on Intellgentsia URL rewriter)?

Any pointers would be helpful.

Problems moving an InfoPath form from a DEV system to QA environment

We developed an InfoPath form using a local DEV environment.  The site collection under which the form was developed was http://server1/.

We are now attempting to deploy this form to a TEST environment that uses a slightly different structure for the collection, namely http://server2/sites/sitecol1.

In both cases the site that contains the form is /fin (so we were using http://server1/fin in DEV and want to use http://server2/sites/sitecol1/fin in TEST).

The form contains VBA code and so requires admin-based deployment via Central Administration, so to deploy to TEST we:

1. Publish the form against the TEST server using InfoPath Designer

2. Upload the form using Central Administration > Application Managment > Manage Form Templates

3. After upload, we activate the form for the site collection http://server2/sites/sitecol1/

4. The form is then associated with a Form Library

When we try to create an instance of the form within this library we get the following error when we click on New to create the form instance:

The following location is not accessible, because it is in a differ

WSS 3.0 - problem with moving the database

My company wants to move a database included with WSS 3.0 installation to a *separate* server.
We want to have the database completely separated, on a different computer, on SQL Server 2005 installation.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure If the sharepoint is configured as a "Web Front End" or  "Stand-alone".
All I know, everything currently is on the same computer, and we can connect to the live database using the following path: \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query

The question is, how can we move the database to SQL Server 2005, on very different server, leaving the application untouched?

Quick summary, we currently have:

--- Server A: (WSS 3.0) + [windows internal database / SSEE (not sure!)] + DOMAIN X

and we want t

Moving SharePoint 2007 from Domain to a Workgroup

For development purposes, we have SharePoint 2007 installed on a virtual server (Wind 2003) on a company desktop (Vista Business ed.).  The SharePoint is using Active Directory and company domain. For learning purposes, we want to copy the virtual machine on another Vista machine that is outside the domain and is not using AD:

Question 1 : How can we move the SharePoint from a domain to a Workgroup
Question 2: Is it possible to still be able to use emails (through local installation of Outlook) on the same computer that is not on the domain? If, yes, what are the possibilities (any articles on it? Etc.)?

Moving Membership tables to production; empty

Hi all: I'm currently moving my application from my testing environment, onto our live environment.  I've moved my database, including all membership tables over, and everyting is empty.  Again, this is what I wanted.  The test environment had far too much "crap" data, including fake user, so I wanted to just start from scratch on the production environment.  I don't know how to re-create the application or the first user though in these membership tables??  I'm sure this isn't an odd thing to do, but I havent' had any luck yet with finding an answer of how to do this.  Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Terri-Lynn

Moving sites to new 2007 environment

I have a SharePoint environment that is running Sharepoint Server 2007 Trial (oops) on Server 2003 that I want to migrate off of asap.  I have built up a whole new SP environment that is 64-bit and Windows Server 2008 R2 that currently has MOSS 2007 but was built with the intent to upgrade to SharePoint 2010.  The new environment already has all the web applications and site colletions set up with some existing sites that I need to keep.  I have a lot of junk sites on the first environment that I don't want to move, so would like to move only the necessary sites to the new 64-bit environment as opposed to moving the whole database. I tried to back up and attach the content database but ran across issues I believe because of different SQL versions and the 32-bit vs. 64-bit....but admit I don't know much about it and could have done something wrong. What is my best course of action?  I assume move over the necessary sites and then upgrade to 2010?  Or can I upgrade and then move sites without having to pay for a 3rd party tool?  If I move sites before upgrading, what is the best method? I have had some luck with stsadm.exe but only some are successful while others fail.  Thanks!

Moving a Copy of SQL Report Server 2005 and Upgrade to 2008

Hello, We have SQL 2005 Report Server in a Windows 2003 64 bit server box. We want to create a copy of this report server database somewhere in the domain, so that we can access it for a different purpose. My question is, will there be any complications with this? I'm thinking about the encryption key that's needed to access the database. If we are successful with this, we might also want to upgrade to SQL 2008. Thanks for your help,   Elizabeth K.

Moving files from one document library to another problem.

Hi, I have a strange problem with trying to move a number of files progammatically from one document library to another. I have a workflow running in sharepoint, which throughout the progress of the workflow, updates a word document stored in a document library, titled "CR".  Within the CR library there may also be a folder title "CR X" where x is the number of the document.  This folder contains any files which have been attached to the CR document.  I.E, excel files, pictures etc. When the workflow completes, the document should be moved to another document library called "Archived" which has a folder named after the year, i.e 2010, which inside that, contains a folder called the name of the document.  All the attached documents should also be moved to this folder. So for example, a document structure could be parentweb\parentsite\CR\CR 2.doc parentweb\parentsite\CR\CR 2\image.jpg parentweb\parentsite\CR\CR 2\image2.jpg Should, when the workflow completes end up looking like: parentweb\parentsite\Archived\2010\CR 2\CR 2.doc parentweb\parentsite\Archived\2010\CR 2\image.jpg parentweb\parentsite\Archived\2010\CR 2\image2.jpg. I have got the first part working fine, where the document is moved to the archive directory.  But I cannot move all the attachment files.  The loop I have to get the files and move them will wo

Moving WSS 3.0 to a new server

Hi, The server that I have Sharepoint on is dying and I need to move it to a new machine. The new server has different hardware and a different hostname. Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide as to how to do this? What I've done so far is install Sharepoint on the new server and copied the databases over. I've changed the web application using the central admin so it points towards the copied content database. I'm was thinking that it could be an issue that the hostnames are different so I've also tried changing the host header of the site to the same one as the old server. There are no errors or anything just the sites from the old server aren't appearing on the new. Any help welcome, - Claire

need help moving System Center SQL Databases to new SQL Server about30 databases to be moved...

We are running various System Center products, SCSM, SCVMM, SCCM, DPM, OPALIS. and a few other servers all using the same SQL server, which currently is a VM. We have configured and built a new Physical box that will replace this. In the past we have moved SQL databases by doing a full backup and then restoring the backup on the new server, then renaming the servers, both network name and internal sql name.  This has worked fine in the past. However I've never had to move 30 databases before, nor have I had to move reporting services. Is there a better method. a recomended method?

Moving Databases between Drives

I have Sharepoint WSSv3 running and configured as a farm, using SQL 2008 Express on the same server and wondered what steps i would need in order to move the database from the C:\ to the E:\ (on the same server). I have been told in a previous thread to detatch the db and move the files and reattach the db, but then someone replied Don't forget to change the default paths so the subsequents DBs are created on E:?? What Default Paths?? what i was going to do is: Stop all sharepoint and sql services detach the db move all databases onto the E:\ reattach the db restart the sharepoint and sql services Is this correct??
