Move folder from file share to local C:/ drive on same box

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I need to copy a folder from a file share to my local C: drive. Is there an easy way to do this in SSIS, or do I have to write a DOS batch file and execute it from SSIS.

Any help would be appreciated

uploading a file with wcf works fine with local drive, but only 4096 kb uploaded when I use unc stor

Hello I'm writing a wcf service for uploading files to a server. It works fine when I try to upload the file to the servers local c:/ drive, but if I use a UNC path only 4096 kb is stored. It actually looks like part of the file is lost while storing it with writeStream.Write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);, because I wrote the bytesread to an sql table and the number of elements are always the same no matter how many times I upload the file, but the stored file is always different sizes, ranging from 1996 kb to 4092 kb.   I'm using IIS 7.5 on a windows 7 enterprise machine. My IIS is using a administrator account for the application pool, so it should not be a problem with permissions.   My wcf method uses Stream to upload the file in chunks    public void UploadFile(RemoteFileInfo request)         { //some methods to set the filepath                                   int chunkSize = 4096;                                 byte[] buffer = new byte[chunkSize];                                 Stream writeStream = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write);  &

Move SharePoint Document Library Files to Local Drive

How can I move files uploaded into a MOSS 2007 Document library to a local drive? I need to automate this as a job, not a one-time process. Can I use SSIS for it? File Systems Task works fine so long as I create a map drive to the portal. I have tried both the http address and the UNC path to the portal.

Check file permission in (local/network share) directory?

I need to check whether a user has read/write permission to a file on any directories (local or network share).

Can someone provide a short code sample?

I've seen many examples online (pinvoking NetShareGetInfo, DirectoryInfo.GetAccessControl(), FileIOPermission.Demand(), etc), but I'm still unable to correctly check if a file in a network share directory (e.g, \\networkPC\sharedFolder) is readable/writable.

All my checks will pass, but when I attempt to write a file, I get UnauthorizedAccessException ("Access to the path ... is denied").

Should I really be doing my checks this way?

public static bool IsFileWritable(string fileName)
  bool isWritable;
  FileInfo file = new FileInfo(fileName);
    using (Stream stream = file.OpenWrite()) // attempt to open a write stream.
    isWritable = true;
    isWritable = false;

Trying to launch a .exe file on my local computer from intranet site.

I have been told I can launch a local program on my PC from my intranet site but it has to be done with Active X or vbscript and not javascript.  I found the following little sample html code that will launch notepad.  However, I cannot figure out how to put this in a button, etc., within my aspx or code behind to execute it.  Does anybody have any idea how to do this?  I have a lot of javascript code I am launching urls with and I have even tried using that but again, I have been told that to do it client side it needs to be vbscript or something like this.  Any ideas?

Programmatically delete a .webpart file from wpcatalogs folder from an IIS website

We are using a third party wsp in our solution which directly adds the web parts into the web application store rather than the web part gallery(References to them are present in IIS site's wpcatalog directory). We want to remove these web part files so that the users will not be able to add these web parts to pages directly. Or any other modification so that users will not be able to add these directly. Is there a way we can do this programmatically?

Word save file on SharePoint via mapped drive

Hi, I have a Document Library mapped to a drive letter. I am able to browse the drive through Windows Explorer. However when I try to save a document to the drive Word returns, 'Unable to connect to the Web server.' .  I have been unable to find any information regarding this error message. If I try to create a document in the Document Library through Windows Explorer and the mapped drive, I get a different error message: 'Unable to create the file 'New Microsoft Office Word Document.docx' There is no user session key for the specified logon session.' After I click OKand refresh the directory, a 0 KB New Microsoft Word Document.docx file has been created. When that file is opened, it is in Read-Only mode.

How to move a file from one domain to another domain?

The following code works as it was originally designed to move a file from one directory to another directory on the same server, but I need to change it to work so it will move a file from one server to another server.  My challenge is how to define the source directory on a different server and check if file exists. Please help.Code behind:Protected Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click         Dim sFile, source, target, link As String         sFile = FileUpload1.FileName         source = "r:\storage\uploaded" & sFile         target = "r:\storage\" & DepartmentList.SelectedValue & "\" & InstructorList.SelectedValue & "\" & CourseNameList.SelectedValue & "\" & sFile         link = "http://someserver.com/upload/" & DepartmentList.SelectedValue & "/" & InstructorList.SelectedValue & "/" & CourseNameList.SelectedValue & "/" & sFile           'Start SelectedValue is not empty         If Not (DepartmentList.SelectedValue = "" Or InstructorList.SelectedValue = "" Or CourseNameList.SelectedValue = "

Method/Way to know whether a input path of FilesSystem contains any Child file/folder or not

Hi,I am looking for a Method/Way to know whether a input path of FilesSystem contains any Child file/folder or not. To know it currently I am using "Directory.GetFileSystemEntries(Path).Count" and checking if count > 0 then returning True else False. For this first method calculates all the files and folder and then return status to me but I want to exit out as soon as my method gets first element(file/folder) in specified path. Because above method is timing out when my input path contains more than 1 million files. I just need to check whether input folder path contains any child file/folder or not. I have tried to use Win32 API also but on ther server it is crashing so I donot want to use that solution. In .NET any method or way is present to know it. Please suggest me.

Web Folder problem : This file cannot be saved to this location because there is no connection to th

When I check out a Word 2007 document from a list, I cannot save it back to the server.  I get:   This file cannot be saved to this location because there is no connection to the server.  Check your network connection and try again.   I am using a Virtual Machine (Virtual PC).  I have the Microsoft Loopback adapter installed.    The server has a static IP address and is a domain controller. I am able to access the web folder through Windows Explorer.   How do I set up Office, Sharepoint and Webdav so that I can check files out of sharepoint and save them back, on a virtual machine?

How to move PrincipalPermissionAttribute from CS file to app.config?

I'm really struggling with the following scenario: I have a WCF service where the methods of the implementation of my service contract are decorated with one, or many, PrincipalPermission attribute(s). For instance: [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role = "Administrators")] [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role = "MyGroup_1")] public void DoSomething() { //Work done here } [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role = "Administrators")] public void DoSomethingElse() { //Work done here } So in this case, method DoSomething(), could be called by users either members of the "Administrators" group or the "MyGroup_1" group. And only Administrators should be allowed to make calls to DoSomethingElse(). My problem is I want to put this in the app.config file, but I can't find any way to do this. How can I "move" these decorations from my CS file to the app.config?

using application configuration file in AppData special folder

Hi! So I understand it is a best practice to save the application configuration files under the AppData folder, rather than in Program Files, since UAC will restrict write acces to the Program Files folder, which is fine. Now, saving the configuration file to another location is no problem, using the SaveAs method. However, when I load the application, I expect some settings to be read. From what I know, this is done either using direct calls to the ConfigurationManager class, either initializing a Configuration object. For the first case, a example is this: if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["Title"] != null) { this.Title = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["Title"]; titleTextBox.Text = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["Title"]; } For the second case, I would use it like this: Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration( ConfigurationUserLevel.None); string setting = config.AppSettings.Settings["Title"].Value.ToString(); So, if the application runs in the Program Files folder, an exception is thrown when I save the file. However, if I save the file using SaveAs and save it to AppData folder, obviously, when loading, the settings are not loaded from the AppData folder, but from the configuration file existing in the Program Files folder. One way to solve

using SSRS Windows File Share subscription to send file to sharepoint

Hello, I'm looking for the simplest way to automate sending SSRS reports to a Sharepoint document directory.  I know a document library is not a real directory but I am able to run copy scripts into one using the virtual path thats shown when I do Actions-> Open in Windows Explorer. However when I set up a subscription to send a report to this directory, I get an error: Failure writing file \\intranet\projects\docs\test.pdf : The network name cannot be found.  Just checking if anyone knows if this should be able to work or not. Thanks

specified file or folder name is too long

Hi, We have MOSS 2007 SP1 databases on SQL Server 2005 SP3. All are 64 bit. We are intermittingly seeing the below  message in ULS log.: 09/01/2010 07:07:16.34 w3wp.exe (0x14BC)                       0x0D14 Windows SharePoint Services   General                                       8kh7      High       The specified file or folder name is too long. The URL path for all files and folders must be 260 characters or less (and no more than 128 characters for any single file or folder name in the URL). Please type a shorter file or folder name   But I'm unable to find the root cause that is causing this issue. I want to find which particular document or process or url is  cauisng this error? Where can I get that info? Whenever we see the above message in ULS logs, we are also experiencing blocking in SQL Server and users are facing very slow performance. Please advice Thanks

Is it possible to move documents to folder based on metadata by workflow?

We have a document library, which have several folders. We need a process so that documents are stored to the right place based on metadatas. Is this possible? Any better method for this? 1. User uploads a document and defines it as a "personnel" document in the metadata field. 2. Workflow(or another method) moves the document automatically under Folder "Personnel".Kenny_I
