Access to update application files stored in Program Files, restricted on a Windows 7 device when us

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi all,

I'm here to solve a problem, and that is our application, which speaks to a central server on startup, checks for updates and if found, updates its local files (stored in Program Files) with those pushed from the central server.  Currently, we are getting access denied exception when this updater tries to add/edit files in this special directory.  What I am looking for is a way to accomplish this updating process without moving these application files to a different location.

Copy files through batch program on Windows Server 2003

I have a VB6 program running on windows server 2003. When I try to open a file in a SharePoint Document library it will not traverse folders. If I run the application on Windows 7 (maybe Vista too), it can. I assume that there is some operating system helping hand here. In order to get around this problem, we have to output our files to a network share and then copy the files over to the document library manually. My question is, how can I write a batch program that will copy all of the files on a network share to the document library using the individual's credentials? I am unable to map a drive letter to a document library in Windows server 2003 (it works on 7). Any suggestions and tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Reloading and refreshing flash files inside a windows form in wpf application

I have a app which shows load a flash movie in form, using this code

axShockwaveFlash1 = new AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash()

The problem is that whenever I make a changes in the flash hosted in our application and try to refresh the to see the changes, the new changes is 'messed' up. to be more specific , it seems that the background and some controls of the previous flash still remain, 'spoiling' the new flash that is loaded. why?

Using the following methods before loading the second flash video makes no difference

axShockwaveFlash1.Refresh(); axShockwaveFlash1.Stop();

Even I tried  loading "empty" flash video before loading your new video?

axShockwaveFlash1.LoadMovie(0,""); but nothing worked

Its urgent.Could somebody h

How to upload files to remote machine using FTP or other method in VB.Net 2005 (Windows Application)

I have to create an application to upload and download files using FTP.
Are there any classes, methods in VB.Net 2005(Windows Application) to do this?

I have created a small GUI for this.

It contains 4 text boxes - Path of Local file to be uploaded, IP address of remote machine, User name and password of remote machine At last there is one Transfer button when I click on this transfer button that file should get copied to the remote machine.

I tried this using FTPWebRequest class by reading example in msdn.

But to connect to remote machine it requires URI format of FTP and I only have IP address of that remote machine. I think there is no web server on that remote machine.

Should I need to install web server on that remote machine.

Or is there any other method to do upload files to remote machine ?

FileUpload works fine, but uploaded files have restricted access

I'm using the asp FileUpload control, which uploads the files just fine. However, once the file is in the system (say a pdf) it can't be accessed from the web... I check the file security and access to the file is restricted. But no folder that it's in is denying access to web users.. So how can I stop this auto-deny-access from happening?

Unable to Manage Content Files During Program Update/Redeployment

I am attempting to include new versions of my Content Files with newer versions of the application. The initial install works as expected and further changes to the program code (Primary Output) update as expected when adjusting the AssemblyVersion.

My problem is that I have not had any success updating or affecting the Content Files placed during the initial install. Currently, I include two different SQL Server 2008 database files (.mdf). My goal is to have program updates replace ONE of the database files while leaving the other one unaffected.

My Research (sorry, I don't have specific links that I have used already)

I have looked around on Google and MSDN trying to find the procedure to manage these Content Files. The closest level of information I found was a comparison that the installer would use on the Last Updated Date of the "new" file and the "old" file. I attempted to manipulate this by changing the clock but neither database file was changed on the update.

It seems this would be handled easily if there were a File Version associated with the database files, but I haven't found any properties or web searches that indicate this.

My Question How do I manipulate specific Content Files to be included with a program update/redeplo

How to transfer files between computer and mobile device using bluetooth

What is Bluetooth? How can I have it on my computer?

Bluetooth wireless technology is a communication technology that allows two devices to communicate wirelessly. Most of the notebooks are nowadays equipped with bluetooth. For those notebooks or computers that don't, you can use a bluetooth dongle to add the functionality and it just costs you around $5. Although higher price range bluetooth dongles are available but it makes no sense of buying them if you just plan to connect your mobile device to the computer. Look for one that has Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR (Enhance Data Rate) supporting speeds of upto 3Mbps and with Vista support. You can easily have one of that kind in just $5.

Setting up bluetooth to work on your computer

Just Insert the bluetooth dongle in the USB.
It should get detected by your Operating System and should be ready to use. In case it is just detected as a new hardware, you need to install drivers for it that came with your bluetooth dongle (You can try Google to find the drivers).
Once drivers are installed, a bluetooth notification icon will appear in your system tray.
Right Click on it to access Settings (This may vary with your bluetooth dongle).
Make sure you have turned Discovery On (It allow others to see your computer).
Switch On the bluetooth on the mobile device.

Wrong Account being used to access files - Help - No Impersonation

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

There is NO impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs. In my web.config, I have <authentication mode="Forms">.

I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).

By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).

Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

Please can somebody assist, as I am worried.

Disallow Direct Access To Files

Here is my dilema, on my site i have a WordPress Audio player (http://wpaudioplayer.com/standalone) that plays my mp3's.

It loads the Mp3's in by javascript...example below:

       AudioPlayer.embed("audioplayer_7", { soundFile: "/Files/Music/[name of file].mp3" });

This file name is clearly visible in the browser source. Not a problem, however this means that any user can legitimately browse to the file directly and download it.

Now i still need the mp3 player (which is flash) to have access to the file but if a user was to try accessing the file directly, they would not be allowed access to it.

I am not sure how to go about this, i am circling the idea of a httphandler but not sure if this is sufficiant to stop the direct access to the file.

Any help would be appreciated

More Windows 2000 UI Goodies: Extending Explorer Views by Customizing Hypertext Template Files

The Web-style interface is the default Explorer folder view for the Desktop Update in Windows 2000. The Desktop Update uses HTML-based hypertext templates to create the Web view, and you can customize these templates to include your own views and commands. This article shows you how the Explorer Web view works and how to build your own custom templates for it. You'll see how to add a command prompt and task buttons to a new folder view using HTML, script, and ActiveX controls. The shell object model and thumbnail shell extensions are also examined, then used to build a simple icon viewer for Explorer.

run a bunch of sql script files using a stored procedure (without using xp_cmdshell)

Is this possible? Let me elaborate. I need to automate the execution of a bunch of sql script files (*.sql) placed by my users in a certain folder. One way I can do this is by using some kind of a script to loop thru the files in that folder and for each *.sql file found, launch a 'sqlcmd' command to execute the current script file using the -i option, ie, sqlcmd -S <server> -i <the current sql file in the loop> I tried doing this, but ran into a liitle bit of difficulty with the particular scripting language (JAVA). I was going to research this a bit more, but I also wanted to consider something that doesn't involve another script. So I was thinking about doing this using a stored procedure, but then I was wondering, how would I run a sql script file from sql server? The only way I can think of is still using sqlcmd, but then to use that within a stored procedure, I would need to turn on xp_cmdshell. Although I can do that, that invloves getting other people involved so I was wondering if there is way to do this without turning on xp_cmdshell.

Bad Format when writing rejected rows to flat files when developing in Windows 7 64 bit

Our SSIS 2008 developers recently moved from Windows XP 32 bit PC's to Windows 7 64 bit PC's.   Our test and production execution environments are Windows Server 2008 32 bit servers.  We have existing jobs that write rejected rows from FACT loads to a flat files, these flat files are then emailed to business users so they can clean up data in the source systems.  We ahve modified a few of these jobs since the developers have move to Windows 7 64bit for development.  When we run the jobs from BIDS on the Windows 7 64bit machines the flat files look as we would expect.  When migrate them to test or production and run them the flat file is in the format below.  I have read some articles that states the <none> in the Text Qualifier property of the flat file definition is causing the problem, but  I don't think that is true.  I have removed the <none> and se the text quailfier to '  or "  and there is still garbage in the output file.  If I use a single quote as the Text Qulaifier the string _x0027_EmployeeFirstName_x0027_ is put in the flat file. Thanks in advanced for any suggestions.  Run from BIDS on Windows 7 64 bit EmployeeFirstName,EmployeeLastName,ActivityDate,FacilityID,Facility Name FIRST,LAST,2010-07-10,48,FACILITY Run on Windows 2008 32 bit _x003C_none_x003E_EmployeeFirstN

how to make working WPF 2010 program make changes to SQL Server 2008 Express files

(1) I have a working WPF 2010 program that manipulates a table in SQL Server 2008 Express (2) the program does delete, update, select and insert correctly however in its own project file folder logbooklmk.mdf   logbooklmk_log.ldf (3) I want the actual SQL Server 2008 express files to be changed yes I know the issue is sharing and the copy option only applies to the local project files. I found this out by trying always copy, never copy and copy if newer. I probably have to change the .xsd folder to refer to the actual SQL Server 2008 Express file. Tried that once and it failed. Something about sharing not allowed.
