Options to host multiple workflows with WCF access

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
I have multiple workflows which have multiple Receive Activities.  I want to know which options I have to host them, where the workflows are accessed through the Receive Activities (WCF) only.  I know IIS is one option but what else can I use?  I currently use the WorkflowServiceHost but that of course can only host one workflow at a time.  I prefer to use Windows Service but do not know how to set it up for this.

so many data access options, what to use ?

I always have used Enterprise Library DAAB with stored procedures for data access with 4 seprate layers (presentation layer, custom types layer, business logic layer and data access layer).

My feeling is that this development approach wasts much time.

I have not worked with other ways of accessing data but sure there are many ways that save development time. While searching I read about these:

  1. Data Adapters they generate whole DAL with stored procedures
  2. Linq with different flavers
  3. Entity Framework
  4. Using data controls like SQLDataSource and Dynamic Data
  5. Other mappers, code generaters and utilities

So much options and my little knowledge, I am confused in making decision what development patern I should adopt considering that my development may be fast, extendable, re-usable and up to the standard. Also I want to go for a way in which my code libraries can be used with other technolgies like silverlight, mvc framework, services if I ever need to use.

Kindly guide me and help.

Performance r/w xml and dealing with multiple access.

I've working on a chat type project at the moment. I was originally using a DB but decided to move to XML which has improved speed a lot and also made the control more portable. I have two related issues that I was hoping you guys could pass comment on.

The first is dealing with multiple users either reading or trying to write to the xml file when someone else already has it open. I've had to be an Exception loop around the write process to 'queue' the writes from different users. This means that sometimes there is now an issue with speed of response.

The second issue is to do with the speed at which my code read and writes xml. Speeding it up would help my app generally and but would also help with issue one.

Here is my code. Just so you are aware, when someone makes a post it does Savemessage and then Getmessages. Getmessages also runs every 3 seconds regardless:

public List<Chat.Message> Getmessages(int numberOfMessages, int lastMsgID)
        List<Chat.Message> res = new List<Chat.Message>();

        DataSet xmlDB = new DataSet("xmlMSG");

        if (xmlDB.Tables.Count > 0)
            // I only want a maximum of the last

What are my options when I need to create a report with data from multiple sources?

Hello all,  What are my options when I want to create a report that will get records from multiple data sources based on data from a parameter? The user will enter the customer ID, I have to check that ID against 5 different data sources. Have you guys done anything similar? Should I leverage SSIS on this request, adding an extra layer of complexity? Should I do this all from SSRS? What are my options?

Multiple Windows Authentication options on login after Web App restore

Hi I have a question regarding SharePoint Foundation 2010 and backup / restore jobs... I'm doing nightly farm backups using PowerShell: Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell Set-location $home Backup-SPFarm -Directory \\same-server\***** -BackupMethod Differential This morning I decided to try and restore a single web application, just to make sure it works. In Central Administration I selected the latest farm backup and then selected the node for the Web Application and choose restore (using option: Same configuration) because it's the same server. Restore process went fine, no failure messages, and I can see that it has restored the content I deleted for testing. BUT when I enter the site. I'm presented with a Login page (that you would see if you have also configured Forms Authentication for the same zone, which I have not) and the drop down box show two options: "Windows Authentication" and "Windows Authentication". Both let me use windows credentials to login so basically the login page is pointless and it wasn't there before. I should note: The Web Application was and is configured to use Claims Based Authentication and for Windows Authentication: Kerberos. Nothing for forms. Default sign in page. And I was never presented with this redundant login page before the restore. Anyone knows why this could be happening and how to solve it?? Than

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services instances (Each instance of WCF is i

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services. I have a mutiple instance of same WCF service in different folder, each instance has unique service name and port. WCFService has reference to Reg-Free COM Reference, i have Native.WCFService.manifest in each folder. Ex: WCFService1 is in "C:\WCFService01\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config WCFService2 is in "C:\WCFService02\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config Now i need host above services from single Windows Service. I am trying to create AppDomain for each above WCFService Instance from Windows Service and then host. Its working if i register COM dll in the server using regsvr32, but when i un register COM dll, i am getting unable to load COM component .... This looks like AppDomain is not loading COM DLL and Manifest files. Its looks strange but we need it in this way because we have production and test environment in the same server. Everything works fine if create a seperate Windows Service for each WCFService Instance, but my manager wants single Windows Service :). Any help whould be really appreciated.  ravi kumar reddy

CAML query to access List data across multiple site collection.

Hi   Is there any way to get the Task List data across multiple site collection using CAML query. Currently, I have the code which will retrieve the data from a single site collection. Below is the code.                           /***************************************************I am using Moss2007.Thanks!Ravi             SPSiteDataQuery q = new SPSiteDataQuery();             q.ViewFields = "<FieldRef Name=\"Title\" />" "<FieldRef Name=\"Status\" Nullable=\"TRUE\"/>";             q.Lists = "<Lists ServerTemplate=\"107\"/>";             q.Webs = "<Webs Scope=\"SiteCollection\"/>";             q.Query = "<Where>" +                                "<Eq>" +                                     "<FieldRef Name=\"Status\" />" + "<Value Type=\"Choice\">Not  Started</Value>" +                                     "</Eq>" +                         "</Where>";             DataTable dt=null;             using (SPSite s = new SPSite("http://banglabguest1:31000/"))             {                 SPWeb w = s.OpenWeb();                 dt = w.GetSiteData(q);                 w = null;             }                              *************************

Does Microsoft plan to enhance SSRS to allow access to multiple data sources?

We have the need to join multiple data sources into one table in SSRS.  At present, as I understand it, this is not a part of current delivered functionality.  We get around it by creating links withing the source database to access other databases.  The links themselves have their own set of constraints and performance issues. The other option is to use sub reports.  It would be nice to be able to define connections to disparate databases to join data from multiple data sources.  Does Microsoft have plans to deliver such functionality in an upcoming release of the SSRS product?

Workflows Implementation options

Hello All,

I am a newbie to sharepoint and workflows.

Our current requirement is to implement some condition based workflows for our intranet

Can any one please point out the options to achieve this task with regards to licensing cost and ease of development

[SPF 2010, MOSS 2007, SQL Server Express Edition, MySQL etc]

One major consideration is to minimize licensing cost but not to the point that it becomes extremely complicated to develop.

Thanks in advance

Multiple Workflows hosted in IIS / WCF using WorkflowService causes SqlWorkflowInstanceStore polling

Not really sure how to ask this, but I will describe what I have and what I want.

1) I will have 10+ WCF wrapped Workflows created as Workflow Service xamlx files.  These are all in the same project.

2) I have configured the services to use the SqlWorkflowInstanceStore in the Web.Config

3) Everything seems to be running and i can execute the workflows.

Each WorkflowService polls the database for runnable instances. These means I have 10 "Workflow Runtimes (WorkflowService)" polling the database for runnable instances and/or locks.

On top of this, I will be hosting these in a Web Farm of ~ 5 servers.  This means there will be 50 WorkflowService instances polling my database.

Is there a way to configure the SqlWorkflowInstanceStore to only run once under each App Domain/Application?
It seems the SqlWorkflowInstanceStore only instantiates runnable instances of the given workflow thats polling.  I want a "global" SqlWorkflowInstanceStore that polls for all runnabled instances regardless of the workflow that created it.

NOTE:  I am aware of Appfabric, but we are not ready to deploy it. I wanted to get this working first.

How to create a condition and policy to deny access based on host name

With SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, can I prevent an Active Directory Account Login ( domain\user ) from connecting if its coming from a host_name?

What I really need to do is this:

On SQL1, login mydomain\user1 is only allowed to login from servers APP2, APP3, and APP4.

If mydomain\user1, though it has a login on SQL1 attempts to connection any other hostname besides APP2, APP3 or APP4 I want to deny it access to SQL1.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct condition(s) for a policy that would work?

Server Control Property With Multiple Options

I have a custom server control built. It works great. I want to expose a property so that in designer the developer can put a check which options they want enabled for that property. For example, it is a grid that has Edit, Update, Delete, Undelete displayed on each row.

I want to have a property called AvailableRowCommands (or something like that) so the developer clicks down, puts a check next to each one they want and they're done. So they coudl check just edit and update and not delete.

Would I use sub properties for this?

Thanks for your help!

Multiple Parameters Error OLEDB MS Access SSRS

I have created an SSRS in BIDS 2008 with OLEDB Provider so as to access MS Access 2010 DB. My report is working fine. But the only problem is when am sending multiple parameter it raises error. I have enabled AllowMultiple Value checkbox.

ERROR : "Cannot add multi value parameter '@parametername" for DataSetName because it is not supported by the data extension".

My query is "SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE ([columnname] in (@parametername))"

Thanks in advance

Multiple user access for files

Dears ,

I am building a web-application that uses xml files to send them to Web-Services , and the application will be used by alot of users i have the files in my directory , and before continueing development I was thinking about when several users will use the same xml file at the same time knowing that , the users will have to ( read , write ) on these files , so if one user is writing on the file and another one will read from it we will have a bit confilict here . Please advice urgently .

I thought of copying the whole xml file TEXT and placing it as a string in the application but if i have to use like 10 xml files this will be a big performance issue i guess.

Thank you.

Possible to get Multiple Operations (workflows) on one service?

I'd like to get something like this:

with multiple operations:

Workflow1(), Workflow2(), etc

So that in the client, the code would look something like this:

var proxy = new ServiceReference1.ServiceClient();

var data1 = proxy.Workflow1();

var data2 = proxy.Workflow2();

Is that possible?  Advisable??  How do I go about this if it is possible and advisable??

I'm setting up my services in code like this currently, but can't get more than 1 operation on a service:

                 string baseAddress = "http://localhost:8082/";

                 Uri address = null;

                 Activity workflow = null;

                 WorkflowServiceHost host = null;

                 address = new Uri(baseAddress + "MyService");

                 workflow = new Workflow1();

multiple access to sql server database, one table

I have multiple apps running which access a sql server database. I had initially a table set aside for each app but now I was told to put everything into one table and have all apps access the database. I just want to make sure that just changing my connection string for all apps will suffice and that I do not have to make any other changes for all apps to write to one table. Will this be ok? The apps are writing to the database table which has a unique index on one column and a auto incremented primary id key. I changed the stored procedures I had for each app since the connection strings were the same as they access the same database. Just want to make sure there will be no conflict issues when each tries to write to the same table. None of the apps will be querying the table at any time except when I run manual queries myself.

Public Function / Sub with multiple options

You know how the built in functions in VB.NET gives you the option to pass 1 parameter, 2, 3, or 4 all within 1 function, how do they do that? and when the intellesense comes out, there is a "1 of 4" on the top left of the intellesense and you can click to change and see what the other 4 options are.

Loading from multiple Access 2007 tables

I have a requirement that i have to load data from multiple access tables in a database with same structure into sql server table having same structure of source.

Please some one help.
