Switching between /js and /jsdebug

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

Hi everyone,

I've got a question related to /js and /jsdebug. We've got one specific server running a CMS, which "only" supports .NET 3.5. Most of the time everything works fine: We've got our /js webservice-proxy, which is included by the service-reference of the scriptmanager. Unfortunately newly sometimes occurs an error: The scriptmanager still generates the script-link to /js, but the WCF-service only offers /jsdebug anymore (without any changes). As soon as we recycle the app-pool of the web everything works fine again - until the next time (which occurs between every 6 or 48 hours).

Anyone an idea what could cause that behaviour? Or does anyone at least know how to force the WCF-service to always use the /js endpoint? Will it be sufficient to insert "js" at the address attribute of the endpoint (instead of leaving it empty?).

Thanks and have a nice day!

Sys.require + wcf svc/jsdebug

using Sys.require i do this:

     Sys.require(
[Sys.components.dataView,
Sys.components.dataContext,
Sys.components.watermark,
Sys.scripts.WebServices,
Sys.scripts.Globalization]
);

however if i need to call a wcf service aka Sys.scripts.WebServices namespace.

I need to include the svc file javascript proxy after this call:
    <script src="/Modules/ShoutBox/ShoutOutService.svc/jsdebug" type="text/javascript"></script>

placing this before sys.require gives me javascript errors that certain objects don't exist yet.. since sys.require dynamically downloads javacript libraries.

is there another approach I could use o wait till all
Sys.scripts.WebServices namespace is down before retrieving my wcf proxy classes?

I would like to not rely on "inclusion" sequence .. hoping api already exists.

VS2010: Switching tabs in wpf designer

Hi, I have a problem with the WPF designer in VS 2010. I have a WPF UserControl which contains a TabControl with several Tabs (TabItems).  It was always possible to switch the tabs in the designer to see the content of the individual tabs. However, suddenly this stops working. I can not switch the tabs anymore. [EDIT] Seems to be a known issues? https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/531868/wpf-editor-tabcontrol-issues Workaround does not work for me (or I do not understand it correctly)... [/EDIT] Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jus

Performance Drop when switching from a #temp table to a @temp table variable

I am trying to convert a stored procedure to a table valued function and the performance has taken a HUGE hit and I was wondering if there was anything that can be done about it. Since a table valued function can not use #temp tables it must be converted to a @temp table variable.

Here are some steps I have already taken...

The original stored proc starts off by populating a #temp table via "Select x Into #temp ..."

Leaving it a stored proc for now, I explicitly created the #temp table and did an "Insert Into ... Select From" to more closely model how it must work when using a @temp table variable. There was no discernible performance difference.

Still leaving it as a stored proc, I then swapped out the #temp table with the @temp table variable and now, all of the sudden, the performance drops from sub-second to over a minute!!!

The temp table only has one field defined as an int and it is distinct, so I tried making the field the Primary Key to see if that would help and it did not.

The temp table is created by scanning a table with around 11,000 rows and the temp table itself has about 4400 rows in it (if it makes a difference to anyone).

Does anyone have any suggestions (or hope) for me?

Thanks,
Jim

Switching Filter Expression

I have an Gridview for which I initially programmed an option to use a drop down box with values for filter expressions. It enables to select a subset of records and then choose to select one.

initial setup

I received a request to allow searching on some fields in a grid view. So I presented a choice to switch between these hard coded filter expressions and selecting a database field and typing in a search string:

Choice of search or filter

If user clicks the radiobutton to Search the controls change to databasefield,searchbox,submitsearch:

search option

My submit search button has this code:

Dim filterExpression As String = DropDownList3.SelectedValue + " LIKE '%" & TextBox2.Text & "%'"
Dim filterparameters As String = "TextBox2.Text"

SqlDataSource1.FilterParameters.Clear()
SqlDataSource1.FilterExpression = filterExpression
GridView1.DataBind()

The resulting search works very well and switching betwe

SQL 2008 - Switching to Windows Authentication Mode

I'm thinking of switching to Windows Authentication on my SQL 2008 server.  Here's my first draft at a plan:

1.  Create Windows accounts matching the exiting SQL accounts.
2.  Grant the new Windows accounts the appropriate database permissions.
3.  Change applications to use the new account information.
4.  Remove the SQL accounts
5.  Switch SQL to Windows Authentication

Is is that simple?  Or am I missing something?

Switching web servers

So I have a Content DB on the DB server which will not be moving.  All I want to do is take the portal off of one front-end web server and put it on a new front-end web server (the existing web server is having a lot of issues and needs to be rebuilt).  What is the best way to accomplish this when there is no access to Central Admin on the existing server (due to numerous server issues, Central Admin no longer works and the Configuration Wizard cannot be run).

Thanks!

Extending the MSDN Theme Switching Walkthrough

I just completed the theme switching walkthrough on msdn http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366514.aspx, and I want to expand this to convert the DropDownList into a custom control with either swatches or icons that can be clicked to switch the theme.  It seems to suddenly become more difficult to work with themes when you change the scope.  I found a couple of links online, one that used a global asax file to change the the theme but it didn't actually work.  Thanks

switching the dll file used in a dllimport

Hello all,

I am using [dllimport  to import a delphi 7 DLL file into my project, but i have hit a point where i need to use different dll files based on the users input into the application.

for example, if the user was to press button 1, then dll "dllfile1.dll" would be loaded, button 2 would load "dllfile2.dll" etc. there are around 15 dll files that could potentially be used and all have the same entry method name.

Can anyone think of a good way around this programmatically without me putting in a [dllimport command for each file and then having to update the software each time i need to add / remove one of the dll files to be used? Also i guess with doing it this way i couldnt just put all the imports into the same class as the entry methods are the same?

Internet Explorer warning message pops up when switching between folders in a Sharepoint portal

Users can access a Sharepoint project portal through a citrix solution that my company is hosting. We use Powerfuse for administration purposes. Whenever a uses switches between the various folders on the Sharepoint portal the user is prompted with a "When you send information to the Trusted sites, it might be possible for others to see that information. Do you want
to continue? .... In the future do not show this message). The Checkbox "In the future do not show this message" is even checked but unless you press Yes, nothing goes.

The sharepoint portal is added to the trusted sites and I have also enabled several registry edits to try to remove the prompt. Among the changes I did was changing the 1601 value in the zones folder og the Internet explorer registry keys. When switching between the top layer folders you never get the warning message, but when you go one lever deeper in the hierarchy or switch between subfolders the warning prompts the user at every turn.

Let me know if there is any other information that I can provide!

UI flickering when switching between forms

Hi there,

We are developing a WinForm application with VS2010. The application uses MDI with one parent form and 20+ child forms. After we integrated background images (jpg and png) into forms and controls, the UI flickers when we switch between the child forms. And some forms even take seconds to finish their drawing. I tried doublebuffering by setting the DoubleBuffered properties of the forms to true, but it did not help much. Setting BoarderStyles of textboxes from Fixed3D to none made things better for those controls. However, the UI still flickers and not satisfatory. What should I do to remove or reduce the UI flickering?

Thanks,

Jay

Switching between MDI and parentless mode

Hello,
I got a bit of a puzzle here.

I have an MDI parent form with a couple of child forms. I provided ability for switching between MDI and parentless mode for better utilizing the screen space. This works just fine. The only problem is when I switch back from the parentless mode to MDI I lose ability to switch between the MDI children by clicking their bodies (however clicking on the titlebar still works). I created a very simple project that reproduces the problem in the nutshell. It looks like converting of a child window to an MDI child has to be done at a very exact time otherwise it will not have all the event wiring required for the MDI functionality.

For example when you create an MDI child it is very important to do that  this way:

ChildForm childForm = new ChildForm();
childForm.Text =

WPF converter and radio buttons switching from codebehind problem

Hi everybody,

I have an UserControl which has some class as its DataContext. This class implements INotifyPropertyChanged. I have a property on this class, which is an enum binded to RadioButtons throught converter. In UserControl.xaml.cs I have registered a hotkey, that is circling the values of enum and I'm expecting to change the selection of RadioButtons as well. The binding is OK (Mode=TwoWays), notification runs also well, but...

... but: when I have the last RadioButton selected I'm not able to switch with hotkey to the first one.

The enum is binded like this:

<Utils:EnumBooleanConverter x:Key="EnumBooleanConverter"/>
...
<RadioButton IsChecked="{Binding Path=ActivityType, Converter={StaticResource EnumBooleanCo
