SharePoint Portal Server 2001: Search and Access Disparate Data Repositories in Your Enterprise

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

The knowledge worker is greatly empowered if she is able to access information across the enterprise from a central access point. With the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Search Service you can catalogue information stored in Exchange public folders, on the Web, in the file system, and even in Lotus Notes databases. This article discusses the use of ActiveX Data Objects and the Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol for creating search solutions based on SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

Can't search Home Portal as no local access on the server

Sharepoint 2010, Web server and seperate SQL server. Could search the Home portal Application (returning 100's of documents) until I configured AAM, now I don't get any search results from the Home portal as I can't access the home page URL locally from the server so I assume the search service can't resolve the URL, getting the following error no matter what URL I try (for the homepage) "This item could not be crawled because the crawler could not connect to the repository"

I can crawl and return results for both the "mySites" and "Central Admin" application (haven't configured AAM for MySites yet) so confident that search is actually working. Am using SSL for the site through ISA server and the URL is https://sharepoint.mycompany.ie, originaly when using just the server name then search returned results. Had a real problem getting SharePoint configured through ISA server and a colleague spent a lot of time working on this, ended up extending the application and configuring additional AAM's for the extended APP to resolve issues with the ISA server so not really keen on messing around with the AAM's (ISA server is managed by third party and costly support so really want to stay well alone as it's now working)

What can I do to get search returing results if&nbs

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Data Points: The Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block, Part 3

E nterprise applications can have a wide variety of data update requirements. Sometimes you need to save multiple rows of changes at once within a single transaction. Other times, the user must be allowed to enter multiple rows of data, send them to the database in a batch; and if a row or two fails, only the rows that succeeded should be committed and remain committed.

A solid data access later (DAL) can benefit an application by hiding redundant tasks, helping handle exceptions more gracefully, helping clean up resources more efficiently, and providing a layer of abstraction from the database.

SharePoint: SharePoint Portal Server Makes Your Intranet More Manageable and Easier to Navigate

Most large organizations have mounds of disjointed information in a variety of formats spread out across an enterprise. To make the most efficient use of that information, it must be readily accessible, easy to identify, and simple to navigate. SharePoint Portal Server 2001 unifies information by allowing members of any organization to create, share, and publish documents from a single access point. This article covers the services in SPS that can help an organization improve workflow and information management.

Using Remote Data Access with SQL Server CE 2.0

Microsoft SQL Server CE edition is the database server built by Microsoft to run on mobile devices. Besides being a standalone database for mobile applications, SQL Server CE also allows you to connect to your desktop SQL Server 2000 and perform remote data access and merge replication. In this article, you will learn how to build a .NET Compact Framework mobile application using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and how it can perform remote data access using SQL Server CE 2.0.

For more information on .NET Compact Framework, see my previous article, "Developing Pocket PC Apps with SQL Server CE."

Figure 1 shows the main components in SQL Server CE and its relationship to SQL Server 2000 (on the desktop).

Office Sharepoint Server Search not working but Windows Server Search is.

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.

Running multiple websites in Sharepoint 2007 with AX2009 Enterprise Portal

I need to setup two separate webshops with public access and different layouts using AX2009 Enterprise Portal.

However I am uncertain how to implement two completely different layouts/designs because the Sharepoint Templates are located inside the 12 hive and not seperate for each website.

Can anybody give me some hints on how to do this - and if so, which requirements I have to meet (VSS 3.0 or MOSS Standard / Enterprise) in order to do it.

I am speculating whether I need to setup two separate web-servers with each own Sharepoint installation (and Business Connector Proxy)

Thanks in advance
