I created a picture library. The picture size, preview, and File type columns are of computed types. Is it possible to hide them?

I'm wanting to create a Picture Library that will accept images with the same name (e.g. 001.jpg and 001.jpg). Currently I get an error as they 'name' column must be unique.
Is there a way to allow the 'name' column to accept duplicate names.
I have a document library with the standard name column linking to the document. However, we'd like to create a custom field and have that link to the document (and edit item menu).
How is this best accomplished?
Thanks in advance!
I have a document library that contains a Category column that is a lookup field. This is a default column that is a required field when uploading documents to the document library. The Category column is empty and I am unable to amend, hide, make it not
required or delete it.
I have gone to Modify settings and columns -> clicked on the Category field to edit, but there is no option to amend the content or delete it. I am only able to amend the Column name and Description.
Since then, I have amended the column name to eg. Category1 and created a new Category field as a lookup and linked it to the correct list.
The problem I am facing now, is that I cannot hide, delete or make the Category1 (old Category) field NOT required. Either I would like to update the original field to display the correct values or alternately hide, delete or make the column not required.
We have a MOSS 2007 publishing portal. We are currently facing issues with Picture library created with default picture library template.Whenever we have tried to upload an image to the picture library I am getting "acess denied" error message, though I
have full permission to the site level as well as to the library level.I have seen the pictures are getting uploaded and in "checked out" state. It does not show the "edit properties" page on upload and does not even allow the owner of the image to edit the
properties, gives the same access denied error message.
I have also tried to check in the image files through the "management and content structure", but the images are not getting checked in. Please let me know the root cause of this and how we can resolve this.
