Estimating Web analytics database sizes Sp2010 new install

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Does anyone know, if we know the number of expected users, number of documents and general usage of a SP2010 system, how I could estimate the sizes of the 2 web analytics databases please? I'm trying to get a very rough idea of SQL db sizing and this part of the process has me stumped. I have spent a lot of time reading all the MS whitepapers and they are good for size estimation except for these 2 databases.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Estimating Web Analytics db sizes - how?

Hi all,

I have spent literally days and days looking for info on how to size our web analytics databases for a new SP2010 install.

I found the great whitepaper : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc298801.aspx   for SQL db sizing and it does all databases EXCEPT the Web anlaytics dbs.

Unable to install SP3 on SQL 2005 due to Database Services language being blank

Hi all,   I have an issue that requires me to upgrade to a later SP (currently on RTM), but when I try to install SP3 Database Services cannot be ticked. Upon inspection I see that its reporting "This update requires language ENU.  The language for this product instance MSSQLSERVER is . Download the upadte for langage .", when I check teh Language field to the right it is blank, other parts however are fine and can be upgraded. Can you advise please as I don't know how to manually set the language (which is reported inside SQL itself as English (United Kingdom)) and I cannot un/reinstall. Thanks, John

Problems with SSRS 2008 Install when configuring a back-end database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 environ

We are tyring to configure SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) not the R2 version with a SQL Server 2008 R2 version of database. We are facing error when the configuration manager within SSRS tries to execute its scripts against the database. Do you think that SSRS 2008 may have trouble using a SQL Server 2008 R2 version as the back-end? Also, what kind of permissions does the ID installing SSRS needs to have on the SQL Server database ?  Not much is available in the documenation or online.

Web Part Error on a clean SP2010 install in Document Center

On a clean SP2010 install I created a Document Center site.On the main site page under the "Upload Document" web part there's another web part, which displays this error: Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type is not registered as safe. [UnsafeControlException: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type is not registered as safe.] at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartImporter.CreateWebPart(Boolean clearConnections) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartImporter.Import(SPWebPartManager manager, XmlReader reader, Boolean clearConnections, Uri webPartPageUri, SPWeb spWeb) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPWebPartManager.CompressWebPartNoSave(Boolean isClosed) Is this normal? Or is my installation somehow corrupted? And what is this web part and how can I register it as safe?

sharepoint configuration wizard at final step issued message as follows:

failed to create the configuration database.

an exception of type system.io.filenotfoundexception ws thrown.  additional exception informaion. could not load file or assemble 'microsoft.identity.model. version=,culture=neutral, publickeytoken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of it's dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified.

the only option was to 'finish' the wizard and exit without a successful install.

can anyone help me with diagnosing this problem.

i am running windows 7 on a dell machine and installed all the software requirements for sharepoint install. with the exception of a hotfix for sql server which when i followed the lin appeared to be updated to a more recently posted hotfix.  i downloaded this and installed successfully.

Question about SQL Server Database sizes

I have SQL Server 2008, when I go into Server Management Studio and I right click on my database and choose properities.  I see two things, I see Size of 200.13 MB and Space Available of .44MB.  Does this mean my database can only grow by .44MB more of data?  If so, is there a way to change the max size?  When I was looking at documents on SQL Server Express 2008, I saw a 10GB limit on each Database instance, so I was assuming SQL Server 2008 would provide me more than 200.5 MB?

I'd really appreciate any info/clearing up for me.

SQL Server Express R2 Database Engine fails to install on XP Home (SP3)

I have had multiple failed attempts at installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express on an elderly but reliable machine running XP Home with SP3.
The support files and management tools loaded OK when I de-selected the database engine.  I was installing as a user with administrator rights.
I wanted to start the DB as a service following boot without a user logged on.

The failure appeared as a message a 'Library not registered' at stage Slp_Config_SQLEngine_ADHlpr_Cpu32.  I cancelled at this point (although in other attempts I let it run on with similar, unsuccessful results).

Other posts covering failed installation do not appear to cover the same problem.  If they do, I am afraid it is my limited understanding!

The summary log file is below and what I think are the relevant lines from the detail are given after.

Can anyone help identify the cause and suggest what I need to do to rectify it?

Many thanks.

Sizing the Web Analytics Reporting database?

How do we properly estimate the size of the Web Analytics Reporting database?

I trust that a small SharePoint site running analytics wouldn't need 1TB of space!

Can we please get some meaningful metrics for estimating the size of the Analytics Reporting (and temporary Staging) databases?

The trick to force Webmatrix to create the MySQL database install scripts on my local box?

 Here is why I ask:

I've found a Webmatrix help article that says MS Webmatrix "publishes the (SQL Server or MySQL) database by creating scripts that run in a database that has been created for you by your hosting provider." That is wonderful, except I can't get it to work when I'm trying to publish a MySQL database (backing wordpress) through FTP (my hosting provider does not support 'web deploy'). Again, no problem, since it is already documented that " FTP protocols cannot be used to publish MySQL database. "

But this does not excuse Webmatrix from generating MySQL database install scripts for me. During the publishing step, no database install script is generated - at least that I can tell - and there is no manual option to create a database export / backup / install script.

In short, as Webmatrix goes, I'm dead in the water trying to get my database uploaded to my hosting provider. Does anyone know the trick to force Webmatrix to create the MySQL database install scripts on my local box? Once created, I can take-over the upload and install process.

Mount Existing Database to New Install

Hello all,

An SBS 2003 server just failed on me. I have the database and log files out of the server.  I installed a Virtual Machine with SBS 2003 and have Sharepoint running on it.  How can I mount the current database to this new installation?

sql server 2008 r2 install does not create database engine, also mmc creates error "Failed to create

I am loading sql server 2008 r2 developer edition into Windows Vista Home Basic. Product loads correctly with no error messages; except will not create database engine. And will not create integration services. When I try to open MMC, I will get error "MMC could not initialize the snap-in. Product may not have been installed correctly."

I understand this is a known issue for SQL Server 2008 RD installing on Windows Vista? What is the workaround or fix? Hot fixes available for this issue from support.microsoft.com do not install on my Windows Vista Home Basic machine.
