SQL Server Reporting Services not able to install on Windows Vista Home Premium

Recently I had a weird problem while trying to install SQL Server Reporting Service in my local PC. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and I wanted to configure SSRS in my PC. During the installation, the setup wizard listed all the services that we want to install and I found that only Reporting Server checkbox option was disabled and I wondered why??? I thought it may be becuase of some installation problem and tried again and its useless... I googled lot of sites for 3 days and finally found that due to some IIS issues, it is not possible to install Reporting Server in Vista Home Premium version. Reporting Server needs some specific IIS features to be installed in the machine.

But unfortunately those features are not available for Home Premium users which in term restricts users not to install reporting server in our PCs... Also, Microsoft has accepted it as an issue and its not possible to get it install in Home Premium...just wanted to share and might be useful for someone like me.

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

Installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64 bit) on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

Hello All, I would like to know if I can install SQL Server 2005 Dev Edition (64 bit) on Windows Home Premium (64 bit)? I have enabled the IIS via the control panel. Is there anything else that I need to do before I start the installation? Please assist. Thanks, CD

SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on Vista Home Premium??

I could not install  SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my notebook with os Vista Home Premium. I know about the SP2 thing...but before coming that point, I can not either install the SQL Server 2005...

When installing, when the database services point comes it gives an error about user thing...and then installation starts to rollback...

I check the IIS configuration from the net...And see that while activating IIS there is no option for Windows Auth. in Home Premium in Control Panel>Program...>Windows Programs.....etc....

SO ON VISTA HOME PREMIUM is SQL SERVER 2005 Dev. Edition can be installed or not?

Error during SQL Server 2008 setup on windows 7 home premium

I have Windows 7 home Premium on 64 bit machine. I have installed Visual Studio 2008 sucessfully and SQL Server 2008 installer also shows "successful" installation. However when I try to login thru Sql mgmt Studio, I get error " No process is on the other end of the pipe". I checked SQL Server configuration and Named Pipes configuration, that seems all right. When I checked event log, it had following msg:

The Tabular Data Stream (TDS) version 0x730a0003 of the client library used to open the connection is unsupported or unknown. The connection has been closed.

on googling, some of posts suggest to download .Net f/w 2.0 SP1. I downloaded the same from MS site, but on instllation, I get msg "this version is not supported on windows vista".

Please suggest any solution/workaround, i have been struggling with this for sometime now.

thanks in advance

Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 + Office 2010 cannot connect to SharePoint 2010

I have a Windows 7 x64 machine, with Office 2010 x86 installed.  I also have (2) Server 2008 and (2) 2008 R2 machines with Office 2010 x86 installed on them. On all of these machines I can not connect to SharePoint 2010 using Office.  The following occurs:

  • From the browser, browse to a doc lib.
  • Click on an Office document, select "Edit in Microsoft ..."
  • An "Open Document" dialogue box appears, indicating that "Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open the file.  File Name: Whatever.docx  From: SPServer2010.  (This is the first clue that something is not working properly.  I don't think this would appear otherwise)
  • Click OK.
  • The document opens, but with a [Read-Only] in the title bar.
  • If I click save, it tries to save to a default location on my desktop computer.

Another example of the problem:

  • Open an Office 2010 application.
  • Click File>Open
  • In the Open dialogue box, type in the URL of a document lib on the server.
  • The error message: You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location.

Final example of the problem:

  • Click Upload Multiple

Not possible to connect to SQL Server CE 3.5 SP2 database from Windows 7 64bit SP1

I have an add-in (.dll), build in VB 2008 express, with a connection to an .sdf file.

I have installed SQL Server CE 3.5 SP2. The connection to the database works fine on my 32bit system (Windows XP). At work I have installed the same on my 64bit Windows 7 system (incl. the 64bit SSCE) and it works fine too.

Now my problem: I have installed the same on another computer with Windows 7 64 bit and the connection fails!

The difference between the both computers that I've found is that the computer that gives problems has windows 7 with SP1 and framework 4 is installed.

Who knows how I can solve this problem?

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

SharePoint: SharePoint Portal Server Makes Your Intranet More Manageable and Easier to Navigate

Most large organizations have mounds of disjointed information in a variety of formats spread out across an enterprise. To make the most efficient use of that information, it must be readily accessible, easy to identify, and simple to navigate. SharePoint Portal Server 2001 unifies information by allowing members of any organization to create, share, and publish documents from a single access point. This article covers the services in SPS that can help an organization improve workflow and information management.

Office Sharepoint Server Search not working but Windows Server Search is.

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.
