Open In Word for Anonymous browsers

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a SharePoint 2010 site that has users with verious permission levels and Anonymous access for others to view.

I have posted a Word document that all can view, but only with the Word Web App. I need to have Anonymous access users be able to Open in Word once they are viewing the file in the browser. Alternatively, I could live with right-clicking the document from the listing of documents and using the Save Target As... option if it would let them save it as a Word file. But when they do this they get the WordViewer.htm file. Is it possible to permit Anonymous browsers the ability to open Word files in WORD and not just the web app. I don't want them to be able to edit and save back to the Sharepoint...

How to make sure that user doesn't open same webpage in two different browsers or browser tabs?

We are using asp.net StateServer for asp.net session management. In our project we need to make sure that if a user is already logged in and if he is trying to acess the website from a different browser tab, we need to inform him that he is already logged in in another tab and use it instead of opening a new session. Consider the following scenarios:

1. User is logged on in tab1 and his session is still on, then user tries to logon from another tab, the browser sends the asp.net session_id cookie, In the page init i am checking if the Asp.net session Id cookie is present, if it is there i am checking if the it is a new Session (i.e. if the existing session timed out), if it is a new session then proceed with the user action else it means that the session in tab1 is still active so i am redirecting user to error page with appropriate message.

Now the problem with this approach is that, suppose session in tab1 is expired and user opens tab2 and performs some actions, now he goes back to tab1 and perform any action, i directly need to take him to log out page.

Please let me know how this can be achieved.

Forcing Sharepoint to open a link with Word emulator

When you open a MS Word document from a document library, it opens it with what I call it's Word emulator (as opposed to a regular web-browser window).  However, if you hyperlink directly to that same document, Sharepoint opens it with a web-browser.

Is there a way to write the hyperlink to force Sharepoint to open it with the Word emulator?  (The hyperlink is going to be from the homepage of the Sharepoint site).

Word 2007 documents won't open from Sharepoint Services site

I have a Sharepoint Services 3.0 site that contains shared documents, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.  I cannot open Word documents directly from the shared documents portal.  Other file types like Excel adn PDF open fine.  It's only Word that has the issue.  I'm using Word 2007 and it doesn't matter if it is a .docx or a .doc, both act the same.  Word tries tro open, then just sits there....no error message or anything.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Word Attachments in Task dont get open in Word WebApp

Can someone tell me why Word document in a Task as an attachment don’t open with Office WebApp.

Am using RTM version of SharePoint 2010 and WebApp, everything is working except the one below.

Any document in the library’s can be open using Word web app, and can be edited too.

But for the same document if I attach with a task as an attachment, it doesn’t get open in WebApp when the user clicks on it, instead of opening it, it’s giving me the familiar window of save or Open With Microsoft word window, and it gets open in MS word if the user select to open in MS word.

I want it to be open in WebApp.

Open local word document

Ok, now my last question for this day:

I want to open a Microsoft Word dot-file when the user klicks on a button in my intranet application. The dot-file is located on the harddrive of the user and executes some code in the AutoOpen() Sub.

Any possibilities to solve that issue? Using Javascript or a hyperlink?
