Custom Events

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello All,

I am trying to figure out how to create custom events.  I've read a few tutorials, and I understand the delegate/event/handler relationship.  What I am wondering is if there is a way to simplify this process in the context of a custom web event.  I have a button in a custom user control, that when pressed, I want to trigger a custom event.  I would like the interface to act like any other event- ie in .aspx page where I'm placing the event, it would be nice for the event to populate in the tag of the control, much like "OnClick" does for a button press.  Is this possible?  Or do I need to physically have the function I'd call in this programmatically subscribe to the event somewhere else?

How to handle login control events when using a custom FBA login page?

Thanks to Kirk Evans' blog post that is liberally referenced all over the place, I have managed to get a custom login page working on my SP2010 site and it is pretty great.  The problem that I am having is that there doesn't seem to be anyway to respond to the events that are raised by asp.net login control that is in my page.

The page is inherited from Microsoft.SharePoint.IdentityModel.Pages.FormsSignInPage and as a result will error out when I attempt to reference a code-behind .cs file.  My question is, how do I respond to the events being raised by the login control that is in the page so that I can do things like logging successful user sign-ins?

Nested Custom Controls Events not firing.

I have checked and could not find an exact problem like this so hope I didn't duplicate a post.

I have two custom controls. I have ControlA which can take multiple of itself and then ControlB which occurs only once per ControlA but no less. ControlA has a button to load an instance of ControlB and to display it. ControlB has TextBox's DropDownlist and Button who all need to fire events for it to accomplish its tasks.

1 <ctrl:ControlA Id="ca1" runat="server">
2 <ctrl:ControlA Id="ca2_1" runat="server">
3 <ctrl:ControlA Id="ca3_1" runat="server">
4 <ctrl:ControlB Id="cb3_1" runat="server">
5 </ctrl:ControlA>

Custom Controls in C# .NET

Embedding user controls in a Windows form is just like adding a simple button or text box that are already provided with .NET. These basic controls were written essentially like you code your own controls. Typically the controls you design are to be used in multiple forms or to modularize your code. These reasons help reduce the amount of code you have to type as well as make it easier for you to change your implementation. There should almost never be any reason to duplicate code because it leaves a lot of room for bugs. So, implementing functionality specific to your control in the control's source code is a good idea. This reduces code duplication as well as modularize your code, which is a good programming guideline.

Writing custom MembershipProvider

ASP.NET Membership mechanism allows to use the build-in server tables to store and retrieve user data. By default, this mechanism can only be used with SQL Server database to which Microsoft provides suitable MembershipProvider class.
Inheriting from this abstract class, developer can use his own table(-es) from any database and use any database engine other than SQL Server, like Oracle, DB2 etc.

WCF Tutorial - Events and Callbacks

we described how to make a very simple client/server application where clients would call functions on the server through a shared interface. In this tutorial, I'm going to expand that application to allow the server to execute functions on the client by using callbacks. Essentially, this is WCF's mechanism to allow events to be raised from the server to it's connected clients.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

Delegates and events in c#.net

People often find it difficult to see the difference between events and delegates. C# doesn't help matters by allowing you to declare field-like events which are automatically backed by a delegate variable of the same name. This article aims to clarify the matter for you. Another source of confusion is the overloading of the term "delegate". Sometimes it is used to mean a delegate type, and at other times it can be used to mean an instance of a delegate type. I'll use "delegate type" and "delegate instance" to distinguish between them, and "delegate" when talking about the whole topic in a general sense.

Writing Custom Web Parts for SharePoint 2007

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, SharePoint 2007 is built on top of ASP.NET 2.0, which means you can now use ASP.NET 2.0 features (Forms Authentication, Master Pages, Membership, Site Navigation, New Data Controls, etc) when building SharePoint sites. This is true for both the new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version (which will be a free download) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (which costs money).

Custom views on .aspx webpage

Hi again, i have a client that needs me to create a custom view on thier webpage similar to Microsoft Word.

It goes about that, when I click on an image it redirects me to another page and must create a custom view for a certain paragraph on that page. I am not sure how to do this and wonder if anyone knows how.

I am using C# programming language if that helps at all. I Heard that using javascript would work but i dont know javascript yet so is there any alternative?

How to listen to events within a listview

I've got a listview and I've put a button control in one of the columns, I'm trying to figure out how I have listen to the button click within a certain row, but can't see the button in the dropdown for the IDs I can generate events for.

I'd like to get the primary key of the row that's been clicked on and then run a sql statement against it.

Any help would be appreciated.
