SSAS 2K5 - Deploy XMLA with C# - User right

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a C# installer that deploy a XMLA to a SQL Server SSAS 2005. My installer ask to provide a AD username and password to deploy the XMLA on the target serveur with SSAS. What are the permission needed to deploy a XMLA on a SSAS server ???.

The AD user have sysadmin,dbcreator and public access in the Server Role node on the SQL Server where SSAS is located and its still poping that the user don't have the right to "deploy" the XMLA. (Its working tho if the user is admin of the server PC)

Chunk of the code :

  imp = new Impersonation(session["DBMASTER"], session["DBMASTER_PWD"]);

  XmlaClient clnt = new XmlaClient();

  string xmla = File.ReadAllText(strXMLA);

  clnt.Send(xmla, null);

Thanks !

I right click on the database and tried to create new database of SSAS that also thrown with same error. Please help me in this regard.   Thanks, Gangadhar

SSAS 2008 Metadata Repository data - User Knowledge base

Hello, We have the SQL Server 2008 Analysis services instance with some databases, cubes, Dimensions, Measure groups, partitions, etc. The business users are find difficulty to search for a particular measure. I mean, it is difficult for them locate a measure from the available cubes; again finding the respective Measure Group/ Folder is not an easy task for them. Also, they need to know the source system of a particular attribute in a dimension, formula for the calculated measure and etc. So, we have planned to develop a knowledge repository, which needs to store the business metadata for the SSAS databases. The user needs to be access this information using the SharePoint site and should help them locate and understand the data. The User Interface needs to be user friendly too. I need your valuable suggestions for the design of this system. Note: I have referenced the below articles http://dwbi1.wordpress.com/2010/01/01/ssas-dmv-dynamic-management-view/ http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlanalysisservices/thread/c610850f-16b4-4eaf-9b91-a2d32816f40e

Deploy the SSAS database with diffrent name.

Hi there, I am trying to deploy SSAS database which will be in different name. While deploying from BIDS I changed the name. It is just replacing the existing SSAS database with the name I gave and not getting the earlier database. I just want to keep one copy in working condition and another copy which i will be frequently deploying with changes so that it will not disturb the working database. Please let me know what can be the problem even though I am changing the name before deploying. Thanks, Palash

SSAS - Besides 2 big user defined hierarchies, plently of small hierarchies

Hi All

I am working on a project where we have to define an Organization Dimension (we defined a standard dimension not parent-child for performance reasons).

The company I am working for is using codeblocks at the lowest level of the hierarchy (combination of business unit, operating unit, etc...).

We created two user-defined hierarchies on that dimension

- One organizing the codeblocks Geographycally (we have attributes like Area, Subarea, CountryGroup, Country)

- One organizing the codeblocks from a Service perspective (ServiceLine, Subserviceline)

The table looks like:

Codeblock, Area, SubArea, CountryGroup, Country, ServiceLine, SubserviceLine, ...

An additional business requirement we have is to define plenty of very small hierarchies besides those two main hierarchies.

One example would be to have a hierarchy that combines values for Country(Switzerland) and Country(Germany). Of course it would be possible to create calculated members in the MDX Script but we have the requirement to be able to drill down from the sum to the individual countries. Since calculated members are not allowed to have children, they are not an option.

We would like to avoid using a parent-child dimension (I know the possibility of using a parent-child with multiple hierarchies).

One ugly option I found is to add dum

Can a user with SQL express deploy a SSIS to a remote SQL server (how)

sql express does not have integration services.

dtutil does not work without integration services.  This is therefore not an option.

The deployment manifest needs dtutil to execute.  This is also not an option.

The documentation on microsoft states that a person can connect to remote integration services by editing the ini file and then connecting locally. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137789.aspx.  Without integration service, one can not connect locally to integration services so using the transfer package of sql server is also not an option.

Also connecting remotely to an integration without editing the ini seems to require local admin rights on the target server.  This is a bit too much to ask.  (this is what I experimented let me know if you know the exact requirements)

Is there a possibility for a person with sql express, without local admin rights to the target server, to push his ssis to his sql server test instance?

Adding user to SSAS server role not working

I have SQL Server 2005 SP3 installed on  Windows 7

 I’m trying to deploy a SSAS project and get the message

“Either the user, Ron-laptop\ron, does not have access to the analysis services Project2 database, or the database does not exist”

Following recommendations in the forum I’ve used SSMS to view the properties > security of the SSAS connection and am trying to add myself to “The server role is used to grant server-wide security privileges to a user” role

Restricting SSAS User To Few states

I want to restrict a particular user from accessing all states in a country.For that I am trying to define a role which enables him to see the whole country data and zone data, but when he goes down to state level he should be able to see only few states. So attribute security was defined for state alon in location dimension. But, when I try accessing the cube using this role I get a message saying 'The query could not be processed.The data provider didnt supply any further error information'. I am not able to understand the reason. Please suggest what might be the reason and if what I am doing is wrong please suggest what can be done to acheive this restriction.

Thanks and Regards,

VS 2010 One-Click Deploy uses different SQL Server user from packaged deploy?

I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 3 project which uses One-Click Deploy, with Web Deploy running on the development server I'm deploying to.  The project includes a SQL Server database.  I have it set up in the project properties, completely with a deployment-only connection string (in Connection string for destination database) with a SQL Server login (call it BuildGuy) that has dbcreator rights.

I'm also using a build server (Jenkins).  I have it set up to use the command line to build my project, run tests, create a deployment package, and then deploy to our shared development server.

All of this works from the build server except the SQL Server deployment piece.  I'm using ScriptDropsFirst in Presource in my project to drop the tables, then re-create them.  When I do the one-click deployment from Visual Studio 2010, it works fine.  When the build server deploys from the package, the SQL Server piece fails with this message: "The user does not have permission to perform this action."  The SQL Server deploy only succeeds from the build server if the login, BuildGuy, has the sysadmin role.

Meanwhile, I tried removing both sysadmin and dbcreator from BuildGuy and found that the deploy still works when I do it from Visual Studio 2010.  It appears that Visual Studio 2010 is using *my* creden

Trying to Deploy Cube From XMLA

I'm trying to deploy a cube using the XMLA file generated from Microsoft.AnalysisService.Deployment. I've modified the connection string to contain the password needed to connect to the datasource, but as soon as I execute the XMLA it stripcs the passwords out and I get the error below.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.
