Me and my team are developing a POC in Performance Point 2010 using SSASCubes,we are planning to recommend trainign for the team  but i had a couple of questions.

1.The Team is totally new to this technology as we dont know what is .NET,MOSS 2007 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

2.Does working in PPS 2010 requires basics of Sharepoint 2010 and .NET,if yes then what are the areas we need to look into it before proceeding with PPS 2010 training

Can anybody kindly guide us with the same

web.config connection string problem within VisualStudio 2010 to point to SQL Server 2008 R2 Develop

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

Cube Browsing in Performance Point 2010 as in SSAS and BIDS cube browser

Hi All,

Can we get the cube browsing experience as we get in SSAS and BIDS cube browser in SharePoint 2010 using performance point or excel services?

I am most interested in drag and drop features for dimensions and mesures.

More or less same browsing features were available in BIP viewer webpart but it is no more available.

So is there anyway we can drag and drop dimension members and measures in performance point dashboards?

SQL Server 2008 R2 BIDS PageHeader's PrintOnFirstPage=False Not Behaving Like SQL Server 2008 BIDS

I have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 SP2 Enterprise edition to 2008 R2 Enterprise, and was in the process of validating that the process did not have any adverse affects on my existing 150 reports originally designed and managed via BIDS 2008. Several reports were designed where the first page has a header different from the rest of the pages.  I created the generic header in the PageHeader and set PrintOnFirstPage to False.  This worked great in 2008...but in 2008 R2 the real estate on the first page is not "freed," so the first page looks like it has an enormous top margin when rendered as a PDF. Even playing around with the visibility of the text box doesn't eliminate the whitespace - and setting visibility properties was not required to get it to work in SQL Server, which rendered as a PDF perfectly just yesterday before our upgrade! I noticed that there were three patches available, but I did not see a Fix available that addressed this issue, therefore I did not install them as advised on the site. Is there any way to do free up the real estate so my first page can use it (maybe a setting in 2008 R2 that wasn't there for 2008)? Or is this a known bug between the two and a patch/hotfix is in the works? I'd hate to have reports that were specifically designed with certain paging to have to be revisited one by one. Thank you fo

Importing Access 2010 tables to SQL Server 2008 R2

I'm trying to import a series of Access 2010 tables to Sql Server 2008 R2.  The Access import drivers are for *.mdb (which if I recall was the file extension for Access when I was a kid, and don't recognize the .accdb file extention).  Similarly, the Excel driver is for Excel 2003.  Isn't there a driver and method to import directly to SQL 2008 from Access 2010? SQL is installed on my server, but Access is not installed on the server.  When I copy the file onto the server and try and open it directly into SQL, I get a 'no editor installed' error. I can't get the 'upsize' wizard to work becuase it won't open the connection to SQL, even though I enter the userid and password of the SQL DB owner.  I get the following error: ===================================================== Connection failed: ============================================================= I have to say I'm stumped.  The rest of the Office 2010 suite works really well together - perhaps I'm missing something very simple? Thanks!     I guess I could export my tables as Excel 2003 and then import them using Integration Services, or install SQL Express on my laptop and 'upsize' to that instance, but SQL State: ‘0100’ SQL Server Error: 11004 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Dirver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Foundation on SBS Server 2008

Hi all, I've just tried to install SharePoint Foundation on 2010 on Windows Small Business Server 2008 and whilst the literature I've found suggests that this is supported, I receive the following error: SharePoint 2010 Products cannot be installed in Stand-alone mode on a Domain Controller.  For more information on upgrading, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=975805. What's funny about the KB ID, is that it doesn't exist.  The pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 Foundation installed OK and the SharePoint installer has detected that it will perform an in-place upgrade.  the STSADM -o preupgradecheck output is below. Any idea's?  It would be really great if we could start using the shared workspace and ribbon features that are inherent with SPF2010. Jason.

how to make working WPF 2010 program make changes to SQL Server 2008 Express files

(1) I have a working WPF 2010 program that manipulates a table in SQL Server 2008 Express (2) the program does delete, update, select and insert correctly however in its own project file folder logbooklmk.mdf   logbooklmk_log.ldf (3) I want the actual SQL Server 2008 express files to be changed yes I know the issue is sharing and the copy option only applies to the local project files. I found this out by trying always copy, never copy and copy if newer. I probably have to change the .xsd folder to refer to the actual SQL Server 2008 Express file. Tried that once and it failed. Something about sharing not allowed.

Visual Studio 2010 Lab Environment for Student to deploy to a IIS 7.5 web server with SQL 2008

Currently the environment I am trying to create is a teaching lab for Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET website development. The intent is to setup an environment where students can create a website with an attached database written with the assistance of Visual Studio 2010. When the website is completed they need to use one of the Visual Studio deploy technologies to upload the website to a locally run server (Windows 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5 running and SQL Server 2008.) I am responsible for setting up the correct deploy technology in Visual Studio as well as setting up the IIS 7.5 deployment server that is running the right version of SQL Server. I have already started this process and figured out how to configure a deployment package in visual studio and have it published on our local server. I am trying to get a very streamlined environment that does not require students have to configure a lot of SQL strings and IIS settings because this is not really what the teaching lab is all about. Just to let you know, we have had  this exact setup using Visual Studio 2008, Server 2003 with front page server extensions on IIS 6.0 and SQL Server Compact edition running on the server. My issue is that since it is now time to update everything there does not seem to be something comparable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has an idea of the

SQL Server 2008 performance: Decision to spend budget to upgrade to enterprise edition

Hi, Currently, we use SQL Server 2008 standard edition. We are planning to improve the performance of our application. The application is built by 3rd party and we can’t change/modify database objects and they seem to be designed fine. The options are spending our budget to upgrade to sql server hardware, or upgrade to SQL Server Enterprise edition. I am a bit confused over the benefits of SQL Server Enterprise edition. The following chart suggests that SQL EE includes “Parallel Index Operations” and “Enhanced Read-ahead and Scan”: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/editions-compare.aspx  How significant are “Parallel Index Operations” and “Enhanced Read-ahead and Scan”? Considering the fact that new hardware is cheaper than sql enterprise license, Should I spend budget to upgrade enterprise edition instead of buying as server with faster CPU and RAM? Thank you, Max

Can WEBDAV be disabled in Sharepoint 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 R2?

Hello, we had some issues with WEBDAV use with Sharepoint 2010 placed behind WEBSeal proxies. We decided to only use FPSE (front page server extensions) for an external access to this portal. I cannot find a way, how to disable WEBDAV, or how to force clients to only use FPSE with this portal. It is fair, to say, that we would like to make such configuration on a server side, rather then configure client computers. We are running Sharepoint 2010 on a Windows Server 2008R2 server (i.e. IIS 7.5) thank you in advance for help/ideas Roman Cernovsky

Performance perspective of Lookup function in SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi, Recently I had presented a session on SSRS 2008 R2 enhancements. As part of that I explained about LOOKUP function and its way of working. There was a question while presenting this feature. From performance perspective, what are the advantages of LOOKUP function over conventional implementation of JOINING the lookup tables in stored procedure itself. I tried explaining that, it enables to make best utilization of resources in scaleout environment because the logic of JOIN evaluation has been shifted to Report Server than a database server. Some how the participants were not convinced. I would request experts to comment on this and help me in understanding whether my evaluation is correct or is there anything I am missing over here during my explanation. Please help.Phani Note: Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question.

SharePoint 2010 - Performance Point & Dashboard Designer

We have successfully installed SharePoint 2010 onto our dev machine; we have also followed the documented steps for configuring Performance Point; http://blogs.msdn.com/b/performancepoint/archive/2009/11/24/deploying-performancepoint-2010-soup-to-nuts.aspx.  All seems fine however we do not seem to be able to create a connection from Dashboard designer back into SharePoint.  When we check the logs we get the following error Critical   An unexpected error occurred.  Error 5678.  Exception details: Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeCompatibilityException: There is a compatibility range mismatch between the Web server and database "WSS_Content_PerformancePoint_1", and connections to the data have been blocked to due to this incompatibility. This can happen when a content database has not been upgraded to be within the compatibility range of the Web server, or if the database has been upgraded to a higher level than the web server. The Web server and the database must be upgraded to the same version and build level to return to compatibility range. We have a farm config on a single 64 bit box and SQL Server 2008 loaded.  We have un-installed and re-installed the site collection. Does anyone have any ideas? Eddie Barrett
