I am in the process of upgrading from 2007 to 2010 and I have been reading/trying out the content hub syndication. However I am not sure whether I should move to a content hub approach from a feature-managed approach for content types.
I have several portal sites and some custom application sites. There are some shared content types, and some application specific content types. Most of the content types are provision using a feature, only a few got modified using the UI.
Here are some of my concerns:
1.) The content type publishing will provision the content types to all sites that are associated with the Managed Data Store. Say if I use the hub to manage the application specific content type, it will publish the content type to ALL sites (even
though only one site needs this content type).
2.) The publishing seems to override the changes made to the content type in all sites (even though it set the content type to read-only, but site owner can go in and unset the read-only setting). Let say I have a custom document content type for each
divisional portal and the divisional lead may adjust the metadata base on their requirement. If we publish/republish this content type in the hub, the publishing will remove all their changes and there's no way to undo it(?).
