Update with unique random generated values.

Hi there, I have an issue with an update of a column with unique random generated values, using SQL 2005. What I want to achieve is to create unique username for a list of let's say 1000 rows. My approach, which may be wrong, is as follows: to create a view to retrieve a random generated number of 7 digits; to use a function that retrieves the number from the view and checks if it is unique in the table or not (if it is, the number is returned, if it is not, a new one will be generated and so on); to update the table using that random generated number. The problem is that it does not work. It does not generate unique numbers, not all the times (you have to test by running the code few times). I suspect it is something with the update, but not sure how to solve it. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem. Create the table: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TB_Temp]( [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [ADM_USERNAME] [nvarchar](7) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL, ) ON [PRIMARY] Add some test rows: DECLARE @i INT SET @i = 0 WHILE @i <= 1000 BEGIN INSERT INTO TB_TEMP (ADM_USERNAME) VALUES ('') SET @i = @i +1 END Create the view to random generate 7 digits numbers: CREATE VIEW vw_RandNumberForAdminUserName AS SELECT ROUND((9999999 - 1000000 - 1) * RAND() + 1000000, 0) AS RandNumber Create the function to retrieve the unique 7 digits number: CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[fn

EF 4 object update error

Hi All, I have an entity type called SystemUser. I want to update a SystemUser object and for that I use the following method:  public int InactivateSystemUser(int userId)        {            ISystemUserRepository repository = RepositoryFacade.GetSystemUserRepository();            SystemUser user = repository.GetObjectByKey<SystemUser>(userId);            //deactivate user            user.FkUserCategory = 0;            DataContext.ObjectStateManager.ChangeObjectState(user, EntityState.Modified);            int result = DataContext.SaveChanges();            return result;        } Here when I do the update I get the error: "The ObjectStateManager does not contain an ObjectStateEntry with a reference to an object of type 'FMSI.Model.Data.SystemUser'." try to reinstall .NET 4, error I need to install WIC, that fails with error update.exe not valid

trying to do a clean install of .NET v4, installation starts then stops with a fatal error.  I look at the log file, this is where it hangs up:

Can't Create a Web App - Update Conflict Error

When attempting to create a new web application I get the following error:

An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPWebApplication Name=SharePoint - 36411 Parent=SPWebService is being updated by DOMAIN\user, in the w3wp process, on machine MACHINENAME.  View the tracing log for more information about the conflict.

The Event Log error is:

The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_Dependencies1_Objects". The conflict occurred in database "SharePoint_Config", table "dbo.Dependencies", column 'ObjectId'.

The statement has been terminated.

I'm working with a single server farm, SP2 on Windows 2003 x64.  I was able to re-run the configuration wizard successfully, but still cannot create a new web application.  Any ideas?

update error of gridview

Hi.. I have a grid view. I had set the autogenerateedit buttion to true. and i wrote the following code

protected void GridView1_RowUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e)
    {
        GridViewRow row = GridView1.Rows[GridView1.EditIndex];
        string str1 = ((TextBox)(row.Cells[1].Controls[0])).Text; string str2 = ((TextBox)(row.Cells[2].Controls[0])).Text; Response.Write(str2 + "                 " + str3); GridView1.DataBind(); }

So, When i click the edit button on the grid view, it will show me 'update' and 'cancel' buttons along with text boxes for cells 1 and 2. but when i change the data in those text boxes and click the 'update' button, 'response.write' is sowing me the previous values rather than modified values. How to get the modified values into str1 and str2 ?

SharePoint Workflow: random error task rollback

I get "Reason: The user who attempted to complete the task is not the user to whom the task is assigned." as the error occured, but this only happens randomly, roughly 50% of the workflows error out with above error with no apparent rhyme or reason as to what causes it to error.

Notice creation by a secretary fires off the workflow, which then gets approved by the attorney, and then it errors with above message, but only 50% of the time and in apparently random order.

SSIS Random Error, Ragged Right Flat Files

I am having a random error with my package(trying to generate fixed length text file using Ragged Right from one sql server table).

Data looks like for most of the runs(good data):

DTLA01718140001T03330100201N000020.7400C
DTLA01658150001T08320100201N000020.7400C
DTLA01272210001T03170100201N000073.5200C

DTLA01272230001T03120100201N000053.5200C
DTLA01272240001T03120100201N000083.5200C

However, maybe for 1 out of 10-20 runs, some rows appear to be deleted misteriously(log shows everything fine and I am sure there is no other procoess update the file). This can happen anywhere(but just only at 1 place ). SSIS didn't provide any error or warning, it even says it inserted correct number of rows in the log.

Sometimes data generated like this:

DTLA01718140001T03330100201N000020.7400C

Have anyone seen this kind of error before. I have tried e

SPListItem.Update fails inside a TransactionScope

I've added a CodeActivity to a Sequential Workflow, and placed it inside a TransactionScope activity.

In my code activity I am calling the Update() method on an SPListItem. When that line hits I get the following error:

Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.ISPRequest'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{BDEADF28-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}' failed due to the following error: Bad variable type. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Security Update for Win 2003 Server (KB980436) causes access error to secure url via WCF

Hi,

today in the morning i installed 5-6 security updates including (KB980436) on our production server. During the day we got errors when our application calls a secured web service :

An error occurred while making the HTTP request to https://[MyService]. This could be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caused by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server.

I had nothing to do because we haven't made any change at our application. Then i remembered the security updates and walked through the update informations. I saw that KB is about :

MS10-049: Vulnerabilities in SChannel could allow remote code execution

I removed this update because its about secure channel, then everything worked fine.

So what should we do ? Who should be informed ?
