Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

SQL Server 2008 r2 - Setup support files - Install error / reading from file

I'm installing SQL server 2008 r2 on a Win2003 R2 x86 system.

After i start the setup, the "setup support files" box begins installing, after a while i get this error:

"Error reading from file f:\1033_ENU_LP\x86\setup\sqlsupport_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\100\Setup\ewbfphdh\x86\Patch\rs2000.msp verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

I've tried another DVD, i've tried a mounted share on another machine...no go....i've tried an ISO file mounted on this server... same error.

Is there any way i can install this "setup support files" from another location? (download)

Is there a switch soo it won't install reporting services? (...i think this file rs2000.msp is from reporting services)

Code in an .aspx file that has literally been commented out is being compiled anyway...Why?

A bug kept occuring in my website that was telling me a certain field/column didn't exist. It took me about 2 hours to track this bug down because it was occuring in a part of the .aspx file that I would have never even thought to look. It was occuring because of a control(ListView I believe) that had been "completely" commented out using the <!-- --> tags. The text was all green which gave me the re-assuring feeling that this code would not be included in the website. I finally decided to search my entire .aspx page for any occurences of the variable it kept insisting couldn't be "databound" and sure enough it was inside a template of a ListView control that was commented out. I changed the name of the field it kept telling me didn't exists and the bug disappeared. Im writing this question from memory so my details are somewhat sketchy but I do know one thing. It took me 2 hours to track down a bug because code that had been commented out was being compiled inside an .aspx file. So my basic question is why does this happen? Im sure this can't be a bug otherwise Microsoft would have already discovered it. Is there a configuration option I can set in Visual Studio? I couldn't find it.

Any source for extracting files from file system ?

Hi Everyone,

I had a package which was using Sharepoint List Source a third party component to pull the files from sharepoint datasource. Then i had some scipt tasks to pull files with specified regular expression.

I want to  now update the package with a change of pulling files from File system instead of sharepoint. Can anyone suggest me with ideas or third party component i can use ?

I thought of using FileSystem Task - where i can copy files from my A folder to B(local) folder , but facing some issues - how to pull files with regular exp matching ?

Please Please help and suggest with ideas

FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie FROM a aspx.cs code behind file?

Big picture: I want most people to have to login, via the forced login.aspx page.  But, if they use the following link and id (a subdirectory default.aspx file).. then I want to automatically authenticate them (there is actually a database of ids on sql server in the background) .. and then I want to send them to the page that they should 'now' be able to access (as it requires an authenticated user..

My problem is that FormsAuthentication.SetAuthcookie(userName, false); does not seem to work or be supported in this location.

default.aspx.cs   (in /a subdirectory)

public partial class a_Default : System.Web.UI.Page
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        string userName = knownDBusername;

        //correct username returned for that id, so we logged in that username
        FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(userName, false);

Foreach Loop Container & File System Task to copy files from target server to source server

A one-off shot at using, SSIS, I appear to be missing something.

From what I have read here, the Foreach Loop Container in which a File System Task has been placed is how one copies files contained in a source server folder to a folder on a target server.  I have defined Source and Destination pkg variables using UNC \\servername\aharedfolder and a FileName variable that is empty.  My impression is that this is suppose to iterate through and copies all files in the source folder to the target.  I only get the first file copied.

In the FLC Collection section  I am using the Foreach File Enumerator under which I have the Folder as \\servername\sharedfolder and files as *.* .  I am not using Expressions.  The Variables Mapping reference my FileName variable.

In the FST, I both path variables set to True and reference the destination and source variables described above.  Operation is Copy File.

I appears that I need to pass a list of the source folder file names to the FileName variable, rather than some built-in logic grabbing a files in the source folder.  Is a passed filename list what I am missing?

Microsoft StyleCop: Source Code Analyzer for C#

StyleCop is similar in many ways to Microsoft Code Analysis (specifically FxCop), but there are some important distinctions. FxCop performs its analysis on compiled binaries, while StyleCop analyzes the source code directly. For this reason, FxCop focuses more on the design of the code, while StyleCop focuses on layout, readability and documentation. Most of that information is stripped away during the compilation process, and thus cannot be analyzed by FxCop.

C# and XML Source Code Documentation

Through many years of enterprise level software development and consulting, I became critically aware of the importance of good source code documentation, and several years ago when I began working with the first release of Visual Studio .NET beta 1 and found C# provided built-in support for inline XML code documentation, I was thrilled.

Code works on aspx but not ascx

Not sure which category to put this question in, so I will put it in here.

Just to give you an idea of the layout of my solution, I have the main project, along with 2 class libraries, BLL and DAL.  (Business Logic Layer and Data Access Layer)

The BLL refers to the DAL and the main project refers to the BLL.

I had a test website and the code worked fine, but the same code will not work on the real project. The only difference is that in the test project, the code was on an aspx code behind, whereas in the real project, it is an ascx code behind (Web User Control )

The code is:

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString
        Dim recordEntry As New UserRecord(connectionString)
        recordEntry.UserName = "TestName"
        recordEntry.BMI = bMI
        recordEntry.BMR = bMR
        recordEntry.FTM = fTM
        recordEntry.TDEE = tDEE
        recordEntry.TodayDate = dateForToday

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.

Any plans on releasing the source code for WebMatrix itself?

I tried reflecting into WebMatrix.exe but was unable.  I'm interested on how you integrated the WPF Ribbon & the Office-style sidebar.

Can this code be setup to run against the whole database instead of just 1 record at a time?

We have made some changes to this code to start capturing 1 new field of data and updating it as new records are added. But there is currently about 120,000 records more or less.. those records of course dont have the new field populated with anything..

We would like to run this logic that already in place and run it against the tables to update the fields 1 time. I think to make it easier, if it can be setup to expect the "valueTwo" variable, so that we can run it againt the individual codes instead of doing all the records at one time.. there are codes that only have a few records, so it would be best to test initially against the small code group.

            strSqual = "insert into trans (trans_type_name, trans_date,sys_id,mod_user_id,show_ind, remoteCode, techName) values('" & valueTwo & "','" & TransDate & "',"&strSystemID&", 1,'T', '" & dbQuote(strUser) & "', '" & strTechName & "')"
            'get the new transaction_id out for just inserted alarm
            strSqual = "select max(transaction_id) as transaction_id from trans"
            set rst = getStaticRecordSet(strSqual)

Make sure that the class defined in this code file matches the 'inherits' attribute, and that it e

The code behind is extending this HomePage class, which is in turn an extenstion of another class University.Framework.UI.Page, which extends the System.Web.UI.Page class.

How to install the Css Friendly Control Adapter Source Code

Hi guys really new to ASP.NET I was trying to install the CSS Friendly control adapter but for some reason the instructions on the website seems outdated. I downloaded all the files (Source Code, DLL, Browser) I believe I need to add the DLL file to my website's Bin folder and the Browser file to the APP_Browsers folder is this correct? After I place this files how to I get it working? what do I have to do?

Also if I want to create a new DLL file from the Source code how do I do these? I opened the web-site with Visual Studio 2008 and I can see all the files in the solution explorer? But how do I compile this to a DLL file? I tried doing a build solution but all I get is an .sln file???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
