Items that I select in design view are not being highlighted in source view

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and when I select/highlight something in design view and switch to source view it does not highlight and scroll to the selected item. This makes it really hard to change stuff in source view, and it's very inconvenient at worst. Any ideas?

Custom Control Design view error

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.

Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'

This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.

Property Code Example:

public string Text
                string ret = "";
                object obj = ViewState["Text"];
                if (obj != null)
                    ret = obj.ToString();
                return ret;
                ViewState["Text"] = value;

I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.

I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it

VS 2010 XAML Design View Load always fail with a Type Load Exception

Create a new WPF project in VS and change nothing. The Design View will fail to load with the error below. Error    1    Could not load type 'Microsoft.Expression.DesignModel.Core.ISharedInstanceBuilder' from assembly 'Microsoft.Expression.DesignModel, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'. Microsoft.Expression.DesignModel is an assembly from Expression Blend. I ever installed Blend 4 RC and uninstall and install Blend 4. I Reflector the assembly I have under Blend 4 bin folder. And cannot find a interface named ISharedInstanceBuilder. But the WPF project is a Template project without any changes. How it get related with Blend 4? And how to fix it? Thanks.

Data Source View Gives incorrect Error--Different Data Type

Hi, I'm creating a report model (2008 R2).  I am trying to create a relationship between two tables.  One FKs to another--same name and type (tinyint) columns.  But the Data Source View editor doesn't allow this, giving the message "...source and destination column have different data types".  But the columns are the same types.  I ahd this once before  acouple of years ago and don't remember how I got around it. Does anyong have ideas?

Data Source View

I followed this below procedure for create a DataSource View In Solution Explorer, right-click Data Source Views, and then click New Data Source View. On the Welcome to the Data Source View Wizard page, click Next. The Select a Data Source page appears. Under Relational data sources, the Adventure Works DW data source is selected. Click Next. On the Select Tables and Views page, you select tables and views from the list of objects that are available from the selected data source. You can filter this list to help you in selecting tables and views. ( My probelm comes in 4th step, I see my server name in Relational Data sources area, i click next to select Tables & Views but i dont see any list of tables in there..? What am i Missing? Today is my day one on SSAS...please HELP FM

How do I get the Sharepoint 2007 KPI to use the "Calculation using all list items in the view"

I have a custom SP list that contains a numeric column in the list and the view selected for the KPI. The option to calculate using all items in the view is grayed out.  Sometimes SP will let me create a KPI like this, then I go back to the webpart and the indicator has reverted back to just a simple count of the number of items in the list.  I want to use the "calculate all items" from a numeric column and have my KPI stay that way? Any thoughts?

Design view displays blank page

I'm relatively new to VWD and am using the Express version.  My web site is simple with a few connections to SQL Server data and to XML documents just to populate controls to display data.  After adding a new web page, linking its controls to an XML document and running it successfully, I discovered that I can no longer display the page in the Design view, I just get a blank screen.  To further confuse things I opened my root master page, which appears just fine.  I then opened the master page derived from this root master and it shows me content placeholders but not the controls inside the content placeholders.  If I have one of the master pages open in VWD and then I open the base page, I now see the data from the root master page but nothing from the base page or the derived master page. I think I'm doing something basically wrong but I don't see it.  Before I start deconstructing my web site I'm hoping someone can help me.  I have looked at a lot of posts on this site but I don't see one that answers my problem.  I did see the one about style and links and their ordering in the aspx file, but this isn't my problem as I currently have neither of these in use. TIA Jon

Unable to open design view

I have SSRS 2008(native), BIDS and VS  2008 (9.0.30729.1 SP) on Windows 7 Pro.I have a working report and today I cannot "View Designer" for my report.When I load the project, it automatically goes into rdl:code view.When I right click on the report, I see the option to view code or view designer,and select view designer, it produces a second copy of the rdl:code view.The rdl is good because: - I can build the project and the build succeeds. - I can run the rdl (right click, run) and it produces the preview of the report.Then, I started a new simple project, went through the wizard and still - no design view.This simple project also builds correctly and produces a preview report.I have checked this, and other forums but I find myself (sort of) alone in this quandary!So, how (and why) did I lose the designer view?Please help....Usman Suleman

Controls Disappear in Custom Control Design View

I have a site using eight (so far) custom web user controls  and two of them have started misbehaving in design view.  When designing the control itself some (in one control) or all (in the other) regular controls (labels, text boxes, etc.) disappear from the design view surface.  They can still be seen in the source view and if the control is hosted on a regular .aspx page the control displays properly.  The code window recognizes all controls in the objects dropdown list and I can write appropriate code.  The controls run properly on their hosted pages.  If I switch to Split view and select controls in the source view panel a very small area od the design surface becomes selected (like one pixel for any of us who remember programming old DOS applications with 80-column screens) but no controls can be seen. In short, the controls work in every respect except that I cannot see all or part of the design surface in Design view when editing the controls directly.  I've double-tripple checked the source code for anything that may be causing this and just don't see anything.  (The controls aren't that complicated.)

How to properly configure permissions so users can view, add, edit, and delete list items, but not w

I am trying to figure out how to properly setup security so that it can be configured at the top-level, and then inherited all the way through. Here is what I would like to do: Each user can view, add, edit, and delete list items - but, users cannot modify or delete web part pages. The only way I know how to do this is set Contribute from the top-down, and then go into each Site Pages library and set Read access. The problem is that I have 100 sites, and I was hoping there was a way I could set security at the top, and inherit downward. Rather than having to go into all 100 Site Pages library and set Read access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

View Source When Modal Popup Extender is Displayed

I've got some Javascript within a div that's displayed by a Modal Popup Extender. The Javascript is throwing an error. When I go to 'View Source', it appears that the source for the Modal Popup Extender and the Javascript contained therein isn't there. How can I view the source then? The Modal Popup Extender *is* being rendered.
