Cannot start SQL Server Browser

Hello, I use SQL Server 2005 for multi-user access.  In the Surface Area Configuration, I changed the protocol from TCP/IP to Named Pipes and restarted the service.  Then I went to SQL Server Browser, stopped it and clicked on Start to restart.  I am getting a message "An error occurred while performing this operation".  I am not able to get the Browser started.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Client download .csv file from server using Response.TransmitFile

I am using the code below to enable clients to download a .csv file from my server. The problem I am having is that when the file is saved to the client computer the file name is prefixed and suffixed with an underscore which leads to a file type of .csv_ which is obviously not a recognised file type. How can I strip the underscores from the file name at the transmit stage?        Dim FileName As String = LstBox1.SelectedItem.ToString        Dim FilePath As String = "~/temp" & FileName        Response.Clear()        Response.ContentType = "text/csv"        Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\" & FileName & "\")        Response.TransmitFile(FilePath)        Response.End()

SQL Server 2008 express SQL Server Service won't start

Could really use some help. Am running XP Pro SP3.  Had 2005 Express running fine previously.  Installed 2008 Express but cannot get the SQL Server service to start.  SQL Server Agent does start though.  In log (below) it seems to be trying to access an E:\ drive that doesn't exist (did default install to C:\Program Files) - plus other issues.  Have 5gig+ free, so not sure why it's saying not enough space.  Have RTFMd the problem for a whole day with no luck.  Any advice much appreciated.   Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (Intel X86)  Apr  2 2010 15:53:02  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 5.1 <X86> (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) (Hypervisor)   Error: 17054, Severity: 16, State: 1. SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin

Cannot start SQL Server 2005

Hi;I've been using SQL Server 2005 on vista and everything was fine until today. I cannot start the SQL Server service from the services list; it gives the error "Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer....., and refer to service-specific error code -2146885628.". I looked at the evet log; the first error message is "FallBack certificate initialization failed with error code 1." then an information message: "Unable to initialize SSL encryption because a valid certificate could not be found, and it is not possible to create a self-signed certificate.".I've created many test certificates till now (to test WCF services security features) using makecert.exe and nothing went wrong; the last certificate I made was named "localhost"; so I thought there's a problem because of that; I deleted that certificate but still cannot start SQL Server.Any help is appreciated. Thanks-AA

How to start SQL Server 2005 (Visual Studio 2008)

I am just starting to work with Visual Studio 2008 (VB) to creat WPF apps and am trying to work with sql server. I want to create databases on my computer to be used with single client applications. When I try to see if the server is running it doesn't appear to be. Is there some special process that I need to do to start the server so I can create some sample databases to work with in Visual Studio? Working with Windows XP, Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2005.
