Fips Compliance of Analysis Services and Encryption of Cube Data

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have SQL Server succesfully set up for FIPS Compliance, But require to setup the same Compliance for the Encryption of Data in Analysis services 2008 enterprise on the same Win 2008 server.

If we browse to the SAS Data Folder for our Project on the Fips Compliant  Instance We can view the Data Files and the Data is Visible in Plain Text. Depite the security setting being set to DataProtectMode 1 (Encryption).

So my Questions:

1. Is Analysis Services 2008 enterprise Fips Compliant ?

2. if it is How do we set it up

3. how do we prove to security Auditors that it is Set up and Working in Compliant Mode.

We have done Exaustive Searches of msdn Google blogs, sql-cat etc and found no relevent articles to Answer these specific Questions and are reluctant to Go to Chargeable support until we have exausted other available avenues.

Analysis Services Using Oracle as a Data Source Data Types mismatch System.Int32 and System.Int64

Hi everyone, I searched for this issue but there is only 4 questions about it in this forum from 2007 I hope that someone can help me. Im usign SASS 2008 using a Oracle as a datasource.  I already have my fact tables linked with dimensions, lets say, FACTID System.Int64 with DIMENSIONID System.Int64 (My dimensions are replaced by named querys and work perfectly) I add a new table to my DSV and the NEWDIMENSIONID looks like System.Int64, but at the moment I replace the table with a named query (I have to use Oracle quering) the NEWDIMENSIONID changes to System.Int32 .  After that I cant relate the fact table with the dimension table. Actions: Looked for the columns that relate from Oracle... both are NUMBER(5). Looked for the differences between my other tables that are already related as System.Int64 and there is not a single difference between the ones that works and the one who doesnt. Solutions Ive tried and didnt work: 1. Cast the column as SQL query didnt work it send an error.  Looks kind of obvious because we are quering Oracle... but I had to try.  CAST( X AS BIGINT) 2. Cast the column as Oracle query . TO_NUMBER 3. Do it inside the server using the Analysis Services Enterprise insted of my Analysis Services Developer. Same issue.   Any ideas? suggestions?   Please? Thank you very much ;) Sincerly Adriana L. PS. At the begging of

PCI compliance - Transparent Data Encryption

I have been researching PCI compliance and SQL Server 2008.   I need to store credit card details in the database for a short period until the batch is closed.  One feature of SQL 2008 that keeps coming up over and over is Transparent Data Encryption.  One down side I see to Transparent Data Encryption is that we would need to bring in 3rd party software to manage the EKM and store the Asymmetric key(s).  I wanted to see what software people are using to manage their keys and get some general feedback on Transparent Data Encryption.  Thank you in advance for your time.   Cheers Ryan

Named Set And Calculated Member within Analysis Services Cube project

Hi there.

I have got the mdx below (titled as MDX In QUERY SsMS) that works fine in SQL Management studio.

I am battling to include it in my Analysis Services project.

Following the logic in the mdx query, I have created the 3 named set and one calculated member (You will see them below), but with no luck.

Please any guidance will do, I desperatly need to include it in my cube

MDX In QUERY SsMS

with

//Get Weeks with sales
set
[WeeksWithSales] as '
{filter(
{[Product].[Product Hierarchy].[SKU DESCR]
*[FinancialDate].[FINANCIAL WEEK].[FINANCIAL WEEK]}
,([Measures].[SLS R]) >0)}
'

//the first week
set
[FirstWeek] as 'HEAD([WeeksWithSales],1)'

set
[LastWeek] as
'
TAIL(
[FinancialDate].[FINANCIAL WEEK].[FINANCIAL WEEK],1
)'
member
[NumWeeks] as 'count([FirstWeek].item(0).item(1):[LastWeek].item(0))'

select
[NumWeeks] on 0
from
 (select [Product].[Product Hierarchy].[SKU DESCR].&[BALL BRIDGESTONE 08 E7 +]&[1041597] on 0
 from (select ([FinancialDate].[Financial Calendar].[FINANCIAL MONTH].&[FY2010_MONTH06].parent.parent) on 0
   from [TPSMerch]))

Report Model based on Analysis Services Cube doesn't work

Hi all,

I am working in BIDS and would like to create a Report Model based on a cube.

Creating a Data Source based on SSAS goes well, but when I want to make a Data Source View, the earlier created Data Source doesn't show up, which is necessary for the final resulting Report Model.

Could somebody help me out in solving this issue? (And also tell me why this is issue is rising?)

SSAS FIPS compliance encryption

I am trying to find out if SSAS processes are encrypted to FIPS compliant standards. We have been able to implement FIPS encryption for MSSQL but we have found no way of determining if SSAS standard encryption is FIPS compliant. As is my understanding SSAS files are encrypted by default but we are not aware that this encryption is FIPS compliant.

Does anyone know if SSAS encryption is FIPS compliant? and if so do you know how we could prove this to auditors? If SSAS standard encryption is not FIPS compliant does anyone know what we need to do to implement encryption at the FIPS compliance level?

The version of SSAS is 2008 x64. MSSQL is Enterprise 2008 x64.

much appreciated :-)

Can other ETL tools load data into Analysis Services?

AFAIK, Integration Services is the Microsoft's ETL product, but can other tools integrate to Analysis Services for using it as the data warehouse (I mean, for storing cubes, dimensions and measures).

Analysis services 2008 fails while "Starting to write data of the 'XYZ_INCR_UPDATE_TEMP_2d232_' pa

Does any one has an idea why it fails while writing data in to partition.

I have only one partition which is default. I am using Molap.

The data is unable to cache from relational db to the cube partition.

The rrror from the profiler:

Started building processing schedule.
Finished building processing schedule.
Processing of the 'XYZ_20081102' cube has started..
Starting to write data of the 'XYZ_INCR_UPDATE_TEMP_2d232_' partition.
The job completed with failure.

Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing the 'XYZ_INCR_UPDATE_TEMP_2d232_' partition of the 'XYZ' measure group for the 'XYZ' cube from the XYZ database. Server: The operation has been cancelled.

The analysis service terminates after 4-5 retries caching the data.

I could also observer Proactive caching is not properly working in sql serer 2008 when using polling.

Any thoughs or advice is appreciated

String measures in Analysis services cube

Hi,

I am having the requirement where I have to use string as measures. Is this possible in Analysis services 2K.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated

FIPS compliance on web app; no workaround

We recently had FIPS Compliance enforced through Group Policy on our production servers.  In our development environment, we are setting the registry key to enforce FIPS, and we inserted the <machineKey> setting found elsewhere to use MD5 encryption in the ViewState.

However, the web application, which has been working for years, suddenly gets this error:

Server Error in '/' Application.
