Include a Crystal Report in .NET Web Service for Dynamic In-Memory-Only DataSet

I would like to use Crystal Reports in a .NET web service.  Ultimately I would like to convert my report document to a PDF and then return the PDF as a byte array.

My .NET DataSet is generated dynamically at run-time.  It consists of four related tables.  Since my DataSet does not have a physical datasource, I created an XML Schema file.  I then added the XML Schema file to the web service project with Add Existing Item.

A solution for working with a dynamic in-memory DataSet exists for ASP.NET web sites and client-based forms.  I tried to use this method as it is published.  When that didn't work I tried creating the report and XML Schema directly in the web service project, but that also didn't work.

The problem is apparent when you try to set the datasource.......the code bombs on the call to SetDataSource(DataSet) with the message
ex = {"The data source object is invalid."}

Crystal Reports would save me a lot

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

Find SQL Query when report is executed

Hi All, I am using SSRS 2008 R2 verison of reporting services. I have a report and the data source for this report is Oracle 10i, it takes around 2 mins to execute the report. I want to find out the query, which is sent by the reporting services to the Oracle. Is there a way to find it out. Please help me with this. Thanks Vineeshvineesh1701

Iterate through rows of dataset in report's custom code

Hello, How can I iterate through the rows of a dataset in the custom code? I have a report containing a dataset. I pass the dataset as a parameter to the custom code function. But what then? Where is a reference about the available members etc.? Here is my dummy sample code so far: Public Function ShowParameterValues(ByVal ds as DataSet) as object() Dim codes() As Object Array.Resize(codes,dc.???.Count) codes(0)=ds??(field???)(row??) return codes End Function As the task I want to accomplish is very simple, I want to keep it in the custom code instead of writing any custom assemblies etc.   Thank you!

Crystal Report with DataSet, DataTable (Having Problems)

dynamic Dataset-Crystal Report

Hello everybody, i'm developing a C# application in which i'm using crystal reports to display data from database. i'm trying to create a dynamic dataset since it's going to be filled from multiple classes i'm not able to fill these dataset unless i add to my sql query the "column AS columName" for example:"select nmClient as Name from customer " ; if i write down "select nmClient  from customer", it won't work   please let me know if there any ulternative solution in order to solve my problem   thank you in advance

Report Builder 2.0 Filter Dataset NOT LIKE

Convert Xml content from a Dataset to another Dataset for SSRS report?

Hi All Does anybody know how to convert xml field from SQL Query to Dataset? For example I have a table T with Fields A(VARCHAR), B(INT), & C(XML). Field C has <test><row>ROW 1</row><row>ROW 2</row></test> I make a query to get this data and call this Dataset1 Now I want the Column C content to be converted into a dataset  call it Dataset2 so that I can drag and drop tables from there to make my reports. Is it possible to do it without using webservice?Another limitation I have, I should not have to connect to DB again, so this boils down to use the already data contained in Dataset1. I was trying to somehow embed this XML content in the query at runtime dynamically? I am currently looking for a way to use the Dataset1 as the datasource and and parse the XML content of Dataset1 to Dataset2. Also, is it that XML content needs to hardcoded in the query, can't we do it dynamically and run the query?

How to use .XSD file as DataSet to create SSRS report?

I am  planning to create a SSRS report and lunch it in a ASP.NET web application (not using report server). Since the dataset need to be manipulated before used to generate report (some data fields of tables need to be filled  using data got from other system using COM+ components) , I hope I can use a .XSD file as the DataSet to create SSRS report and bind data source dynamically in code. It is not a problem using Crystal Report, but I have no idea how to do it either in Report Designer or in VS 2005. Please advise

Large Dataset Downloaded Before Rendering Report's First Page

I'm hoping to understand the behavior of SSRS a bit better in the following scenario (SSRS 2008).  A single matrix (tablix) exists on the report.  No other objects are on the report.  That matrix is populated with 1.1 million rows of data totaling about 200MB.  Why does SSRS download the entire dataset prior to rendering the report's first page or am I missing something here?

When previewing the report, the local .data file bloats to 200MB indicating all dataset rows are being returned.  The matrix does not contain any sorting, all cell "can grow" and "can shrink" properties are set to false, no expressions are used anywhere, and even the table's column data types from which the data is being pulled are appropriate.  In other words, I believe I've reduced storage and CPU needs while eliminating elements that add overhead when rendering a report.

The specific scenario here is a researcher previewing the first few pages of data then choosing to download the entire dataset.  MS documentation I've read refers to "soft page breaks" when rendering as HTML and left me with the impression that perhaps SSRS needs to know the entire height of the dataset before it'll slice the report into pages.  It's odd to me though that it needs to download 1.1 millions rows of data befor

Rdl Report's Parameter DataSet Using SSRS

I have to design a Page Similar to Report Server's Viewer Page where if any Parameter is multivalued and if any Stored Procedure/Query Name is specified in the Report, then a it is internally executed and checkbox dropdown list is displayed to select the values.

Similar to that I have to design an aspx page with the similar behaviour. How to get Stored Procedure Name(if Specified/Query) of any Parameter of a report? So that I can bind my Checkbox list on the aspx page.

Please Help!

Report Builder 3.0 - Map point layer is not applying filter on a dataset

I have a Report Builder 3.0 report which includes a Map object and a shared dataset (SQL against a SQL 2008 R2 database).

The Map contains a point layer which is populated by a Shared dataset in my report.  I've added some filters to this dataset (on text fields) but the Map continues to show all records and doesn't apply the filter.

I've tried the following but none work:

- Converting the Shared dataset to an embedded dataset

- Only filtering one column

- Combination of setting filters from hardcoded values and parameterised values

The Map never picks up the filter.  If I display the records from the shared dataset on a table then the filter is applied to the tabular results so I know the filter is being applied in at least one place.

I do have a workaround which is to add parameters to the SQL in the shared dataset.  Then pass parameters from my Map report to the shared dataset.  This guarantees that the parameters will be applied.  However, I would still like our users to be able to use filters for the Map.
