Running Javascript in a report's tooltips

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I want to find out if it is possible to run javascript when a user hovers over a cell in a report and the cell has a tooltip defined.

The idea would be to run another reporting services when a user hovers over a particular cell in their report, almost like you would launch a new report uisng the window.open javascript in a report action.

JavaScript Error while calling a drill through report in a report viewer from a asp.net web page.

I am calling a report in a web page which is getting displayed in report viewer. This report comes fine but when I click on it to see the drill through report for this parent report the drill through report does not get displayed and I see a JScript error instead.

The error I get is something like,

parent.document.GetElementByID(...).ClientController is not null or not an object

The aspx page that contains the report viewer inherits from a master page that contains an Update Panel.

I tested the report separately in SSRS and the drill through is working fine there.

Can some one please provide any inputs on this one?

Regards.

Permissions insufficient when running report

I have a report on a server that I am able to run without issue when runnig it from the web. I can even run the report from a winforms app. When i try to run the report from Report Builder 2, I get the following error:

The permissions granted to user domain\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

When I use Report Builder, I can see the fields/tables/views etc that I need, I just can't run it from within RB2

Running Subreport and link to report ahead of time.

Folks,

I have a question regarding running subreports ahead of time to ensure long running report does not take over 1 hour.

Problem Statment:

I have a top report subscription (Dashboard) that runs daily. In the top report, I have links to sub report that based its parameter to the top report row. The problem is the sub reports takes 20-30 minutes to run. How can pre run the sub reports once the top report has run, so that I do not have to wait 20-30 minutes to drill in to those sub report ?

Thanks

WPF 4 with SSRS Report Viewer and long running Background Worker Dispatch task.

Hello,

I've recently run into an issue with with WPF 4 and the SSRS viewer control with a batch emailing application. See http://www.jenasysdesign.com.au/dnn/Blogs/tabid/71/EntryId/5/WPF-4-SQL-Server-Reporting-Services-processing-application-Memory-Leak.aspx for details of some performance profiling issues I found with this technology stack.

I've got two issues.

Firstly, I implemented a background worker process to handling looping through the 2,800 reports. I found to run the SSRS report viewer to export the report results in a slow memory leak. See Red-gate Ants memory profiler 6 image in the link above. I'm not sure what I need to do to remove weak references with this combination of technology. Any ideas?

Secondly, the following code runs on the background worker process, designed so the user can monitor the progress of the a large batch of report files getting generated.  The catch here is involves using the SSRS viewer to export a reports results requires the Dispatcher.Invoke method to ensure that ReportViewer.xaml screen gets a UI thread, but in the process it interferes with the background workers report progress methods, so the UI doesn't see the progress.

SSRS 2008 crashng when running a report with huge amount of data

We have a huge amount data that is loaded (using flat files, upto 80GB in size) from the mainframe on a daily basis after which our users use SSRS to view the results using predeployed reports. One of the report query brings back a huge amount of data but when rendering the reports, it dies and restarts the service.

Running a report for each value of a multivalue parameter

I am using SSRS 2005.

I have a report with a table on it.  The dataset for the table takes a multivalue parameter, LocationIDs.

I want to have the report run for EACH of the values passed into LocationIDs.

So, what I would see is the table repeated for each value of the parameter.  FYI, I don't have a field in my dataset for the parameter value.  I use the parameter internally in the stored procedure to limit the dataset... so I can't group by a field.

How would I do this?

Unexpected Error when running large stored procedure report in SharePoint

I have a report which uses a stored procedure to retreive a resource intensive dataset from a Data Warehouse.  With a small scope it renders in SharePoint no problem, but when a larger scope is specified ShrePoint throws this non-descript error.

I can execute the procedure in SQL Server Management Studio, and though it takes 2+ minutes with the larger scope (30 sec with smaller) it does return the data.  Similarly, in Business Intelligence Development Studio it returns the rendered report with data after 2-3 minutes.

Only in SharePoint and only with a larger dataset does this occur.  Timeout is set at 30 minutes and it occurs long before then.  SSRS server has over 12 gigs memory, running SQL Server 2008, SharePoint 2007 is in integrated mode. No errors in SharePoint server or SSRS server logs.  Ideas?

while running new report, doesn't indicate if previous report preview page is open

Hi!

i am using asp.net to run the reports from the parameter page.

When i run a report by passing report parameters, the reporting services report opens in the report_preview.aspx page.

Now, if i do not close this report_preview.aspx page and go to new parameter page and run another report, the report_preview.aspx page doesn't show the new report. It just refreshes the old report.

This can be because, when the run button of any parameter page is executed, it opens the report_preview.aspx page by executing the following query under page_load button.

            ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(string), "openNewWindow", "window.open('../Report_Preview.aspx','ReportPreview','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,')", true);

But clients get confused for everytime to close previous preview page and open the new report.

IS there any way to handle it please

Is there any way to generate the new ssrs report on the same report_preview.aspx page by refreshing it ( by replacing previous report by the new one) ?

Invalid object name 'HG_AX09TempDB.dbo.PersistedStream' while running the report

when i run any report it gives the following error

An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError)

  • Invalid object name 'HG_AX09TempDB.dbo.PersistedStream'.

difference running from query designer to report preview

So I have a simple query and parameter in query designer and I run it and it does what I expect.  This is a simple test query/report and I'm just trying to learn how to get parameters working like I'd like.  The single parameter is there to filter by year-month ...and it does in designer.   When I go into report preview, I get the parameter list of values I expect but wne I go "view report" I get:

Query execution has failed for dataset "GetInfo".

Query (1,72) the restrictions imposed by the CONSTRAINED flag in the STRTOSET were violated.

Here is the dataset for GetInfo (which runs in designer):

 SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Pay Amount] } ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@PayDateYearMonth, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [Pays Data]) WHERE ( IIF( STRTOSET(@PayDateYearMonth, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1, STRTOSET(@PayDateYearMonth, CONSTRAINED), [Pay Date].[Year-Month].currentmember ) ) CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS

And here is the dataset for the parameter:

SELECT
 {} ON 0, NONEMPTY([Pay Date].[Year-Month].Members, [Measures].[Pay Amount])
ON 1 FROM [Pays Data]

I did change the generated dataset on the parameter since by default it would list all the year-month combinations
