How to use control file locks (ReaderWriterLock?) in a multi-process situation.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I have web apps on a web server farm that need to share serialized objects stored as files.  I need to be able to have one of the web apps write updates to these files, but it needs to wait until all of the other apps' threads are done reading it.

ReaderWriterLock works fine within a single web app, but as soon as I access the shared files (on a SAN or any mapped network drive) I encounter IO Exceptions when readers are in the middle of a read and a write operation occurs.

Is there a way to control this across a server farm, or at the very leasy, between multiple apps on the same server?

Cant find vsi file for CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hi guys

This is driving me crazy... I cant find the .vsi file for installing the CSS Friendly Control Adapters Project. Does anyone know where I can get this?

The following link: http://www.asp.net/cssadapters/ only leads to the CodePlex wiki where I can download the dll and a partial solution. Essentially, I'm looking for the source code to implement the Menu adapter.

Any help is much appreciated!

Upload file control intefering with javacript and Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance?

Ok I'm trying to use the dreaded Upload File control and it's not within an UpdatePanel. Here's what I have, I'm using jQuery to display messages on the client side from the server. One of the things I'm doing is I'm setting up a script to run using: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(iamloading); and in my iamloading I have: function imaloading() {    $(document).ready(function () {        displayMessage();    }) } Not to bore you with details but the displayMessage is where I am doing the jQuery, this has worked for ever. Now I'm building this page with the Uploadfile control and this stops working and if I remove the control it works again.I've made sure that the function handler is created for iamloading but it never fires as though something has unregistered the event. Any help or suggestion would be of great healp. Thanks

I was trying to use a label control to print out a string with spaces and line feeds, but with no success. Textbox is the only control I have found so far that will print my line feeds (ControlChars.Lf)  However, can I remove the scrollbar from the textbox display that appears when textboxmode is set to multiline? -smc

Drag drop functinality not working on Explore View control for file containing special characters in

We have created a control which uses explorer view control for file drag and drop. This functinality works fine for a file having filename without special characters but it gives an error if we drag and drop a file having special characters in the file name. The reason for this is Sharepoint uses WebDAV protocol for file transfer to the Sharepoint document library and WebDAV protocol has limitation that it does'nt accept file with special characters. Please let me know the way how I can accomplish drag and drop of file with special characters in file name, onto Explorer View control with WebDAV.

Restoring 2008 Database with Filestream - Process cannot access file error

I'm trying to restore a copy of a database that has a filestream and am getting the error below. I've tried with move option to specify a new path and left it with default path, neither worked. Did a trace with procmon, didn't see anything. FileStream1 is a new folder that the restore process creates. I've deleted the folder, tried it with a new name, re-took the backup from the source machine, restarted SQL, rebooted the machine, drive permissions are open. I've run out of ideas on how to debug further. Looking up the error online wasn't much help either. Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'OpenFile' on 'X:\Data\FileStream1\4ecb2e48-0eee-4c99-a3f0-f1e6c7f00b24\f2efe374-9481-4c1b-a7f2-dcdcee350807\0000001b-0000aaa6-00f6'. My UploadComplete event looks like this:<pre lang="cs">protected void AsyncVideoUpload_UploadedComplete(object sender, AjaxControlToolkit.AsyncFileUploadEventArgs e)      {//VideoPath is a session variable            VideoPath = string.Empty;            if (AsyncVideoUpload.HasFile)            {               // string filepath = AsyncVideoUpload.PostedFile.FileName;                  string filepath = e.filename;//above two captures only the file name, but I want the total path, like c:/MyDocuments/...                                 UploadFile(filepath, "ftp://172.20.117.102","test","Value*12"); &

Multi select control does not work with Infopath. :(

I create new lookup column that allows multiple values.  The important part is the column is the Title(linked to item) so the item is shown as Hyperlink item to the actual item.  This works fine, but then I would like to fine tune my form with infopath.  When I open this form it complains about these columns, basically will not let me open the form without first deleting these lookup columns.  So I then try the other way I create a lookup column from infopath and this work fine, the only problem being is these items no longer so up as hyperlinks to the original items.  This is a major bumma, any one have any suggestions to get this working?
