Creating and Using an ASP.NET Web Service in Visual Web Developer

In addition to letting you create Web pages, Microsoft Visual Studio also lets you create Web services that use ASP.NET XML. Creating a Web service in Visual Studio is similar to creating a Web page. You can also use the Microsoft Visual Web Developer Web development tool to reference and use Web services that are in a Visual Web Developer solution, on your local computer or in a local or external UDDI directory. In this walkthrough, you will create the Web service in one solution and use it in another.

Tasks illustrated in this walkthrough include:

Creating a simple XML Web service in Visual Web Developer.

Creating a separate Web site that uses the Web service.

Develop a Web Service: Up and Running with the SOAP Toolkit for Visual Studio

The new Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Toolkit for Visual Studio 6.0 provides the infrastructure for developers to build, expose, and consume Web services. With a few exceptions that are outlined in the toolkit, the SOAP Toolkit complies with the SOAP version 1.1 specification. It includes the Remote Object Proxy Engine (ROPE), a Service Description and Code Generation Wizard, and code that provides ASP and ISAPI reference implementations of SOAP listeners. This article describes the tools and the object model of the SOAP Toolkit, and then demonstrates ASP and ISAPI implementations of a functional Web service using this toolkit.

Using Web Service in SharePoint 2010 Standard Web part using Visual Studio 2010

Hi All,               Have an issue with  Web service in calling  by SharePoint 2010 Standard Web part using Visual Studio 2010. If you can tell where I went wrong or tips to solve this would be great for me. What I have done is like this.. 1) Created new 'Empty SharePoint' project : as Farm solution 2) Added Web parts 3) Trying to add Web Service : There was no option for adding Web Service , so added as 'Add new Service' , this created entries in app.config file 4) ServiceName : shown as name space  (what  I'm  expecting is as Global  object with all methods ) 5) Created Object of namespace.ServiceName.ServiceSoapClient and tried to call one of it's method 6) Build and deployed 7) While viewing that web part it is showing an error as [InvalidOperationException: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'SerialKeyService.ServiceSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.]         Error in detail : [TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.]   at System.RuntimeTypeHandle.CreateInstance(RuntimeType t

How to use SharePoint 2007 list data in Reporting Service (Visual Studio) 2008?

Jeez - I have been googling left and right, and tried all the suggestions. No luck in getting it to work. I am using Reporting Service 2008 tools in my VS2008, trying to create a simple report using SharePoint 2007 data (from a simple list). Here is what I've been doing: Created a simple SharePoint list in a test site - only one column (Title) with one record of data. Started Visual Studio 2008 and created a new Report Server Project Wizard project. I named the data source "dsTest". Type: "XML". As connection string I used: http://site/subsite/subsite/_vti_bin/lists.asmx. Credentials: "Use Windows Authentication (Integrated Security)". Clicked Next and arrived at the "Design the Query" form. I entered this in the Query string box: <Query> <Method Namespace="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/" Name="GetListItems" /> <SoapAction>http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/GetListItems</SoapAction> </Query> Clicking Next I get this error: An error occurred while the query design method was being saved. Failed to execute web request for the specified URL. Soap Fault: Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown. Now if I view the Details when trying it inside the Query Builder I get this: <errorstring xmlns="http://schemas.mi

Visual Studio 2010 - Design Mode Error - "Error Creating Control"

I am using Visual Studio 2010.  I was debugging a web application and an exception happened and VS 2010 froze.  I ended the VS 2010 in the task manager and when I went back to developing, I found on every form for every ASP.net control I get:

Error Creating Control -

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Also I am unable to edit  the form or add anything from the toolbox.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

Help deploying Windows Service to 64bit Server usinf Visual Studio 2008 Setup Project?

I have a Windows Service I created a while back for our Win2003/2008 32bit Servers, written in Visual Studio 2008, deployed via a VS2k8 Setup Project.  Everything works great, installs fine, and runs as it should.  There is no platform dependent code, it's all straight-up .Net Framework stuff, so we thought it should deploy to a Win2008 64bit Server just fine.  But this seems not to be the case.

When I try to install the Service as is on the 64bit machine, the service and associated DLL's are installed to the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folder, but when you right click the Service itself and look at the properties, it is trying to find the .exe file in the "C:\Windows\System32" folder. This difference prevents the service from running, obviously.

If I change the Setup Project settings, set the Target Platform to "x64" and change in the File System screen to use the "System (64-bit) Folder" placing the files in there and re-run the setup.exe on the server.... now the files are correctly installed to the "C:\Windows\System32" folder, but the Service itself is not 'installed', that is it *does not* show up in the Services Manager.

Just for the giggles of it I tried to manually install the service using 'installutil.exe' in the .Net Fra

what is the benefit of creating New Data Souce in Visual studio

In visual studio 2005  for windows application , there is option where you can add New datasource by going to menu Data>Add New Data source,

I know you can connect to database by using Dim con as connection, Dim cmd as command, Dim da as dataadapter, then query database and get result,

then what is the point or advantage of using datasource(Data>Add New Data source)

Some one give me advice on this issue

Error creating control contentplaceholder1 Visual Studio 2010 design mode

After I imported a VS 2008 web project to VS 2010, I can't view aspx pages that have master pages in design mode. The page design mode displays "error creating control - contentplacehoder1 object reference not set to an instance of an object." The project builds and runs fine though. I have only one master page that all other aspx pages reference and I don't have any nested master pages. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance.
