Important: Windows App deployment

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

Hi Friends,

I have to deploy a windows application on windows 7 home premium OS PC and i want this PC to act as a server or a database server where different PC's have an application installed on them and access the common database on the windows 7 PC through the application.

There are 2 scenarios that i have to implement

1. I can allow the user to work in a LAN and use the application from a maximum of 5-6 PC's .

2. I should also allow the users to work with the applicaion remotely from their laptops outside of the LAN. In this case, the application will be installed on the laptops but the database will be on the Windows 7 PC .

Thanks and please help me on how to implement this.

.NET Zero Deployment: Security and Versioning Models in the Windows Forms Engine Help You Create and

Windows Forms applications solve many of the problems inherent in building Web applications the old fashioned way?with HTML. To demonstrate the use of Windows Forms over the Web, the author takes his existing app, Wahoo!, and ports it to Windows Forms. In doing so, he discusses versioning, linked files, security, storage isolation, the deployment model, and everything else you need to get started building your own Windows Forms apps for the Web.

Windows 7 (64x), Visual Basic Xpress V10, Sql Server Xpress V8R2 -Deployment results in Attempt to a

Hi all, I'm at my wits trying to figure this out.  It's a new 64x computer running Windows 7.  I've installed Sql Server Express V8 R2. The connection string is user instance = true.  And the database is located in a directory off the main directory to which the connection string points to. The error I get when starting up my VB Express 10 app is "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file ‘C:\datadirectory\data.mdf’ failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located in UNC share. I've attached the database using sql server manager v10, and can see the data. Googling his error, there seems to be a lot of web-aps seeing this as well. I did have a problem after I installed sql server version 8 r2, just trying to create a database.  That was resolved by going through the IIS -configuration. If I can provide any other information, please let me know.  Cheers

ClickOnce deployment problems with Windows XP

Hi, I just deployed my WPF Desktop Application using clickonce. The application was made in a Window 7 pc and it worked ok in other Windows 7 pcs, but when I installed it in a fresh Windows XP SP3, the app works normally, but it doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs, leaving no easy way to uninstall it.   Hope someone could help me with this or point me to another thread if it has been already answered before.

Deployment of Windows Application

Hi Friends,

I have a windows application and i want to deploy it on the client side in such a way that i want to host the database on database server locally on the client side. And i want multiple users from multiple machines access the data through the application.

So my question is that should i keep the application and the database on the server together or should i install the application on separate computers and keep the database separate on the Database server.

Also, how can i allow the user to access this application in this scenario from the remote place say for example from another country.

Please give some suggestions on how to implement this.

Thanks ,

Syed

Deployment of SharePoint Server 2010 on Windows 2003 Server Std Ed

After reviewing http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx document on hardware/system requirements it appears that I will need to upgrade my Windows 2003 Server Std Ed to at least Windows 2003 Enterprise Ed in order for SharePoint Server 2010 Ent to be able to address more than the 4 GB (I believe) Windows 2003 Std only allows or addresses.  I have 32GB RAM on my Windows 2003 Std which also hosts the SQL Server 2005 Std Ed databases for other apps and will host SharePoint's database, as well--single platform install.  I also have two CPUs on this box which SQL (32 bit) uses.

So my question is:  can I easily upgrade Windows 2003 Std Ed to Enterprise without having to reinstall Windows 2003 and subsequently all other apps in Windows?

SSC 3.5 SP2 Private Deployment issue on Windows Mobile with SSC 3.5 (3.5.5386) installed

I want to deploy applications that use Private Deployment for SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 for Windows Mobile.
I made test sample according to SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 Books Online instructions.

I tested with WM 6.5 device and emulator.

I deploy to application folder on WM the following files:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlceme35.dll
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlceqp35.dll
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlcese35.dll

The code is simple:
using (SqlCeConnection sqlCeConnection = new SqlCeConnection())
{
   button1.Text = sqlCeConnection.ServerVersion;
}

When I run my test on clean WM 6.5(with SSCE 3.1 in ROM), it's ok. Server version is 3.5.8080.0.

When I run my test on WM 6.5 with SSC 3.5 SP1 installed, test fails with the error:
"
The application is trying to load native components of version 5386 that are incompatible with ADO.NET provider of version 8080.
Incompatible versions can lead to application instability and hence loading of SQL Server Compact has been aborted.

Client can't connect to WCF on deployment machine Windows 2003 Sp2 server .NET 3.5

Hello,

I have a WCF service hosted in a Windows service application.  I have a Windows Form client that connects to it.  I am using net.tcp binding for two endpoints.   It all works fine in my environment, but when I deploy it on my cutomer's machine the client does not get a response from the service.

I ran netstat -na and I can see the endpoints listening.  I can even see the connection ESTABLISHED when my client runs the first method.  But my client times out and receives a "Could not communicate with XXX service.  This request operation sent to net.tcp..... did not receive a reply within the configured timeout (00.01.00) The time alloted... etc"

I tried removing all security from the configuration file, but that did not make a difference.

I reinstalled .NET Framework 3.5

I added     System.Net.ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 200 as suggested in another post.

I am creating a trace for the client and the server.  The server does not log any activity of a connection.  The client is catching a communication exception.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  What else can I try to see why the client is not able to chake hands with the server on this particular machine?

Many thanks,

Karen

Windows Service Applications Tutorials

You can easily create services by creating an application that is installed as a service. For example, suppose you want to monitor performance counter data and react to threshold values. You could write a Windows Service application that listens to the performance counter data, deploy the application, and begin collecting and analyzing data.

Serving Silverlight Apps from Windows Mobile

Even if mobile dev is not my every day work, thanks to the .Net Compact Framework, it's still .Net programming.

Here is the scenario:

You come back home, you have a windows mobile phone wifi capable and you want to quickly get access to your phone pictures from your home network.
You just activate the Wifi, run my app and then browse to the provided link from any computer on the network.

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.

Getting Started with Windows Communication Foundation

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) provides a unified framework for rapidly building service-oriented applications that makes it easy to build and consume secure, reliable, and transacted Web services. It unifies the capabilities in ASMX, WSE, Remoting, COM+, and MSMQ; therefore developers need to learn only one programming model.
