I have lists in my teamsite A. Under the teamsite I have other teamsites (B and C) with lists.

Can not link from MS Access to SP admin lists

We have WSS3. I am a site collection admin. The SP server is at remote location at our vendor.

I can link from MS Access to all the cusom lists - lists created by users.

I can not link from MS Access to the admin lists, for example the Site Hierarchy list. This is https://mysite.com/_layouts/vsubwebs.aspx

I know this is a LIST. It has columns Site URL, Title, etc.

I need Read only access. How can I do it?

Problems with access to external lists in SharePoint 2010

Our environment is SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and SQL server 2008 R2.   We have External lists that access a local database in SharePoint SQL Server. When new lists are added and permissions are given in the SharePoint Central Administration the domain users had to be in the Windows administration group to access the lists.   Recently in the same environment the domain users were removed from Windows Administration user group and could access the external lists.   In another similar test server we found adding the domain users to Windows Administration does not give the new domain users access to External lists.   The inconsistency is the issue. Has anyone seen this issue or provide a possible solution?

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

When I try to edit any of the lists by typing directly in the Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

"An unexpected error has occurred. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes."

I get this error message when I try to
1. add a new row by typing directly in the Datasheet view,
2. edit an existing row by typing (or selecting from a dropdown menu) directly in the Datasheet view, or
3. delete a row by right clicking on a row and selecting Delete Rows.

The error does not occur when I add new items to a list in the Datasheet view by clicking on one of the dropdown menus at the top of the list (such as New, and selecting New Item; or Actions, and selecting New Row). Using these options works fine for adding new rows, but I see no way now to edit or delete existing rows.

The problem seems to have developed sometime in the past few weeks.
I'm using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

Silverlight access SharePoint Workspace offline lists

Is it possible to access SharePoint Workspace data from a silverlight out-of-browser application?

We need to have data offline and be able to sync it back later on. Data is stored in external lists and we want to be able to read and write to the external lists offline from a more user friendly GUI such as a Silverlight application. Infopath forms can not do the advanced GUI things we want to do, therefore it is not an option.

Can not access SharePoint Lists from ASP.NET web application

I don't know if this is the right place for this but is related to SharePoint.

using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://server/siteName/"))
       if (site != null)
         using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
           foreach (SPList myList in web.Lists)

Example this code above:

I connected remotelly on the server, and in VS 2010 created a new ASP.NET Web Site. Added a new .aspx page and in code behind in the Page_Load event handler i put the code above. (lbLists is a ListBox on the .aspx page).

When i run this page and try to see the results in browser it doesen't work!!

The same code works perfectly on a windows form application!! What is the reason why it is not working?

It ment to not work? How can i make a web application (ASP.NET) that i can access a SharePoint site programmatically and display the items?

Then i want to deploy this app and run it in browser.

Unable to access Libraries/Lists when logged in as Owner

I'll start at the beginning...

  • SharePoint 2010 Ent. running on Server 2008 R2 Ent. x64. on ESXi 4.1.
  • 8GB RAM with 4 processors (virtual)

I followed the TechNet instructions for pre-install guidelines to the letter, ran the prequisites part of the install and had zero errors (everything installed successfully). I performed a stand alone install, using for IT Department at the moment. Followed everything to the letter and had no issues. Once complete I could access the Central Admin area, had three flagged issues appear. All I fixed via TechNet instructions.

Yes, I've rebooted several times.

As the Admin I am able to access the Team site I had it create and create lists etc. I went on to create a sub site and gave it unique permissions, no errors. I then created lists in the sub site without any issues. I then assigned my normal user account as a 'Home Owner' and was able to access the team site. I then gave my normal user account 'IT Owner' (unique permission group for sub site) and it allowed me access to sub site.

When I try and access settings I get the following error popup...

   File Not Found.

Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

Sharepoint 2010 - Lists not displaying Edit (Link to item) for Users with Edit Only access

I am using Sharepoint 2010.  I have several lists whose view includes the column "Edit (Link to Item)" in the default view.  I am the site admin so when I view the list the "Edit" column appears with the small "paper and pencil" icon and it works when clicked.

I needed some users to only be able to view and edit existing items (not add or delete).  So I have created a site level permissions that I copied from "Read" and only checked the "Edit Items  -  Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and customize Web Part Pages in document libraries" under Lists.

This new permission level does allow users to see the edit menu item on the standard "Title" hyperlink dropdown, but in the"Edit" column there isn't an icon or any clickable link to edit in the column.  Only from the menu.  Its as if the icon won't appear if I don't give them Add capability which is what I don't want.

 Thanks for any tips,

Alerts not working for Lists on FBA / Anonymous access site

Hi Folks,

I have a WSS3.0 site that allows anonymous access as well as using FBA. Another web application is configured to use the same content database but set with windows authentication.

Anonymous users are allowed to post to a few Lists. I am trying to create an alert for an authenticated user (either FBA or Windows). I receive the "You have successfully created an alert" email, but no emails are sent when new items are added. This is the case for all new list items whether they are added by an authenitcated user or an anonymous one.

I am sure the site config is set correctly (but I will double-check). Is there any reason for the behaviour I am experiencing? I'm not at the latest patch level (we are using the June 2009 CU), so perhaps this was an issue that has been resolved in a later patch/update that I ought to apply?

Would appreciate any gems of information anyone might have on the subject before I go away and write my own event handler to send an email!!!

Can no longer access files, lists, permissions, etc.

After doing some testing (attempting to create an anonymous accessible site), I can now no longer externally access any of the documents in any of my SharePoint libraries, permissions, etc.  I can VIEW the libraries, lists, etc.  When I try to open an item, I get an error.  When I attempt to click the dropdown next to an item, I get the "file may have been moved error".  When I am inside the domain, I have no problems doing any of that.

The only changes that were made, were to follow adding anonymous access step-by-step (even created a site and turned it on- couldn't get it to work- kept getting login prompt), so then I created an extension of the Sharepoint -80 site in Central Administration, and put it in the "Internet" zone.  When the new site I had created wouldn't work, I deleted the "Internet" web application extension I had created.

I'm thinking that's the root of my issue- that the "Internet" zone has some how been mucked beyond belief- but I have no idea where to look to fix it- now I'm in that dreaded place of I've tried so much stuff, that I'm basically chasing my tail at this point.

This is SharePoint Server 2010, running on Windows 2008r2, with SQL 2008r2 as our DB Server.

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )

SharePoint Tutorial - Lists

A list is a feature in SharePoint that stores a lists of information. For example, a list can be created to store web links in the human resources team site. A list is usually created for a specific type of information. Lists can contain metadata to describe the particular information in more detail and to make it easier to find.
