Changed DNS, IIS mappings and AAM for mysite - "My News feed, profile, content" okay but MySite link s

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Sharepoint 2010 enterprise, I created a DNS entry and AAM for MySite - qnetmysite.company.local and all worked okay, then the customer wanted to change the URL used to access my site to "myqnet" so we deleted the DNS entry and recreated a new one. I changed the bindings in IIS and AAM to point to "myqnet.company.local". I can enter http://myqnet.company.local" and navigate to My News feed, My Profile, My content but when I try to navigate to MYSite the URL it takes me to is the old URL qnetmysite.company.local and internet explorer of course can't find the site. I have done an IIS reset, flushed the DNS on the local PC, when I mouse over the MySite link I can see the wrong URL.

Please can somebody help me?

MySite Alternate Access Mappings not working

Hi, I had some problems with my upgraded SP2010 server last week. Something happend and the web.config files for each web application was reset to base settings. I had some backup on these files and got everything working again. The only thing that is NOT working is Alternate access mappings for MySites. if I use the server:port url all the webparts work just fine. But when I set it to the AAM I used before the "crash" no webparts work. It is just the message: Web Part Error: "This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists. " Does anyone have an idea where to start looking for bad configuration? Regards Joakim Gustafsson Stratiteq Sweden

Mysite link missing when accessing sharepoint externally

Hi there,

I have a SharePoint server that works perfectly well internally. When Accessing it from home, users do not get the link to mysite. I have done some reading around (specifically this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288609(office.12).aspx) and wondered if this was to do with the AAM settings. However, many of the articles I have read relate to issues where the link is there but doesn't work. I haven't been able to find anything that directly refers to a missing link. I am at a loss as to what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Sharepoint 2010 - MySite link goes to wrong location

Had to make change a change to mysites, created new web app and opens up with out issue, but the link from inside the main sharepoint site goes to the wrong place... I am having a major brain cramp on how to properly associate the mysite link to the proper web  app or vice versa...

Microsoft sharepoint Mysite in top link

How can i add mysite option on my top link bar such that the personalized page of user can be opened from there

I want to put link in every user mysite, that when user click on it redirect to the link.

How I can this for all users my site?

MySite creation never completes

Our moss 2007 SP2 farm currently won't create any My Sites.  When a new user visits my.domain.com they get the "Please wait while your personal site is setup for the first time and the default document libraries and lists are created.  This may take several seconds." message but it just sits there forever.

I'm not sure when it stopped working as we only really create new accounts at certain periods during the year - it was working 6 months ago.

I can't find any log messages about the creation/failure - any tips on where to look?

Mysite in the Enterprise

Hi all,

I'm using and administrating sharepoint in the education environment and have a question regarding Mysite.

I have created a central portal for the office I work in for internal use, and within that have created department sites from that. For the sake of it it's hosted at sharepoint.local.office, with MySite being hosted at mysite.local.office.

As other districts join the domain forest I've asked if they would like to have their own sharepoint site. In saying yes I then create sharepoint.districtx.whatever, but have disabled MySite creation for them.

Each district is tied to their onw Shared Services for the purpose of searching and such.

Ultimately I would like to permit each district to have their own MySite domain, but I have glanced through various things and keep seeing this thing that if MySite is deployed a certain way users will get a disconnected experience with sharepoint and other users. I'm just not unserstanding what is meant by the "disconnected experience" any ideas on that?

In addition, I would like each shared service to have their own mysite, if that's possible under their own URL. I'm sure it is, but maybe I'm just missing some central piece that gives me that Aha moment of understanding.

How are other folks using mysites under such an environment?

Extended MySite: Profile picture uploading to the wrong zone.

I'm experiencing a problem where uploading a profile picture, in a MySite, uploads it to the wrong zone.

What I've done is created one web application and configured SSP to use that same one. As a result, the MySite host location is in that same web application:

Default Zone:
http://my.domain.com  <-- default SharePoint site.
http://my.domain.com/personal <-- MySite host

I then extended that web application to enable FBA & anonymous access:

Internet Zone:
http://extended.domain.com <-- extended default SharePoint site.

Now I"m able to navigate to a user's MySite using the extended URL (http://extended.domain.com/personal)...but when I upload a new profile picture in my MySite... it prompts me for new credentials because it's trying to upload to the Default zone (http://my.domain.com).

I found the following thread that talks about this...but there wasn't any resolution:

What is the best practices when configuring a MySite in an extended web application? How can I fix the situation I'm encountering above?

P.S. I tried to change the MySite Host location (via SSP in the Central Administration)

MOSS 2007 and MySite in Outlook

Looking to get the My Site feature working in Outlook 2007 when you right click someone's name in an email. I've followed this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968115) and I can add/remove various fields but when it comes to the My Site feature it nevers show a link to the users Sharepoint My Site. It's strange because the URL for people's My Site is in AD. It's not like I even get a error message where the My Site option should be - the field never displays...help!

Mysite Search Scope

I have four search scopes in the Shared services SSP. But in sharepoint 2007 mysite i see only All sites and People search scopes in the dropdown by default. I want to enable other two search scopes for all Mysites. I know how to enable search scopes individually but i would like enable search scope globally for all Mysites in my sharepoint webapplication.

Please suggest.

Problem accessing Sharepoint 2007 MySite

My users are having an issue accessing their mysites.  When they go to the main portal page or any other site and click the link at the top right of the page to go to their Mysite they are thrown into an endless authentication loop.  If they cancel out of the loop the URL in the address bar is for http://mossserver/_layouts/MySites.aspx

For a user to successfully get to their myself they need to enter the full url like http://mossserver/personal/username/default.aspx

Now, I know somewhat how this happened.  It resulted from me trying to delete a user's mysite and I apparently did it wrong but I'm not sure what I did.  It almost seems like I deleted a redirect page or something...

Looking for any ideas.

Mysite Default Master Page

We have been using the mysite section of sharepoint for 6 months and have recently changed the default.master is there any quick way of changing all the users pages without losing anydata.

I know i can go into the Master Page library for the users, upload the new default.master and then set this as default within sharepoint designer, however this will be quite a lenghty task for me to complete for all our userbase.

Could you please advise if there is a quicker way to do this.

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Outlook Unable to connect to MySite's "Social Network"

Running into a really odd issue. I have to farms configred pretty much identically, a production farm and a dev farm. For some reason I'm able to set up a social network connection from outlook to my dev farm without any problems but I get "invalid user name or password" when I try and connect tot he production farm. There's no errors showing in the SPLogs or the event viewer. I've checked everything I can think of but knowing me I'm missing something really small.
