Is there a way to undo/remove/delete an active directory user profile syncronization? [SP 2010]

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I successfully managed to synchronize the active directory with Sharepoint 2010.  Unfortunately, the farm I was on has different FQDN /Netbios domain names.  So all ~1000 user profiles are now imported with the wrong domain, and the subsequent errors one would expect.

Is there a way to get back to a blank slate?  technet has an article on "resetting" profile synchronization (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff681014.aspx), but that requires being able to verify the GUID of the user profile synchronization database, which I am also unaware of how to do.

Please help, and thank you in advance.

Import user profile from another domain active directory

Hi, I have SharePoint 2010 running on DomainB andwe have corporate users on DomainA. i need to import users from both domainA and DomainB. I am able to import users from domainB and not able to import users from DomainA. I made a successful connection to both Domain A Ad and DomainB AD in SharePoint 2010 user profile synchronize connections. I am able to sync users only from DomainB (SharePoint 2010 running on domainB) and not able to synchronize profiles from DomainA (outside domain). Is there any additional configuration I need to do. Please help me on this issue. Thanks, Ratna

Unable to see Active Directory Groups in the User Profile Database after Profile Import

SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise RTM. W2K8R2 w/multi-server setup: AD/DNS SQL 2008 WFE APP Claims Mode Web App only using Windows Integrated Auth So, this was never a problem in 2007, and I didn't even realize it was a problem in 2010 until I started to build a solution that utilized my blog article: InfoPath - User Roles in Browser-Enabled Forms Using AD Groups.  I went to utilize the same web method of the same web service, but I noticed that no data was showing up at all.  Typically, the GetUserMembership/GetCommonMembership methods return the specified user's memberships: AD Security Groups, AD Distribution Lists, and SharePoint Sites (not SharePoint Groups, though). My user profile sync is working.  All AD users are pulled in with the proper profile data. "Users and Groups" is selected in the Synchronization Entities section of my Sync Settings. Security groups are working for permissions and audience targeting.  Confirmed my users are affected properly by the use of Security Groups. My query to the GetUserMemberships web method (and GetCommonMemberships) is running (not failing), but it's not returning anything even though my user is in some Security Groups and has explicit membership to multiple sites. The GetUserProfileByName method of the same UserProfileService.asmx web service returns all the regular profile data

User Profile Syncronization in SP 2010 .. just reads starting.

At some point i was in the configuration area for user profile synchronization connections, but for the life of me can't find it now.

I did change the service account for the service and attempted to start it, but now it just reads Starting and I can no longer figure out how I even got into the page that would allow me to add a new connections.   I've rebooted - no luck. I see nothing in the event viewer or timer jobs.

Thanks.

Active Directory user impersonation with forms authentication

I've written a small ASP.NET 3.5 application to allow users to update selected account attributes on their own. Everything works fine when I use Basic Authentication, but because the dialog that is presented is less than ideal, I'd like to use forms authentication to give the users more instruction on how to log in. My problem is that in order for the user to update their account information, I have to have the application impersonate them for the update actions. I've scoured the internet trying to find a solution to my issue, but nothing fits or works. I have tried setting the web.config:<identity impersonate="true" /> but that doesn't seem to work. I also have the C# code using the WindowsImpersonationContext class, but still no luck. protected void titleTextBox_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { TextBox tb = (TextBox)sender; string fieldTitle = "job title"; string fieldName = "title"; if (userDirectoryEntry == null) CaptureUserIdentity(); try { WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext = userWindowsIdentity.Impersonate(); if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(tb.Text)) userDirectoryEntry.Properties[fieldName].Clear();

User Profile Application Failing in SharePoint 2010 (14.0.4514.1004)

I keep getting the following error "This User Profile Application's connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or User Profile Service may not have been started. Please contact your administrator.". As sugested by Travis at http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/nielsen_travis/pages/default.aspx I tried commenting the two security nodes, removing its' allowInsecureTransport attributes, and setting then False. As Lionel wrote in his comment I tried also modifying "Central Administration / Application Management / Configure service application associations / Application Proxy Group" of my share point web application. My application pool for User Profile Service Application seems working and User Profile Service status is Started. One thing I remember about my issue, first I tried creating User Profile Service Application I got some error message and tried creating User Profile Service Application again. It gave me some other exception and than I navigated somehow to the "Manage service applications" page and there the desired User Profile Service Application was magically on the list with status Started. I thought - that's great! But when I clicked the User Profile Service Application link I got the nasty red error I mentioned at the beginning. Any ideas?Regards,Dawid Ireno

Sharepoint 2010: User Profile Sync with Person attributes

Sorry for opening another post following this, but I think this case is quite concrete: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/2fa02093-630e-4131-bdc7-0b979067f601 When trying to configure in Sharepoint 2010 - User Profile Application, an additional sync source from BDC (as at least, one LDAP Profile is required). The first approach was to create a straightforward SQL Connection with SP Designer, and it seemed everything ok, except I'm not able to setup synchronization of "Manager" property, which is great in order to see Silverlight Organization Explorer Webpart. As I have read in the previous post, someone pointed to setup a BDC with Visual Studio 2010, so one attribute is of type: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPUser. It seamed very logical, and so I tried to do such task. Once I have deployed correctly a BDC with this strong type (SPUser), the result is that I'm still unable to see any attribute when trying to synchronize Manager attribute. In Sharepoint 2007 this was possible, but not able in SP 2010. Any idea of how to do it? Just a bug? I have one very dirty workaround: setup a Timer job to run after Sync, so I can setup this field by code. But, for doing this, I would not need to run Sync process with BDC anymore.    Evotec Consulting

Share Point Foundation 2010 active directory integration

I am having difficulty figuring out how to enable WBA for Sharepoint Foundation 2010. Currently I have a IIS site on port 80 that redirects to SSL port 443 sharepoint site and gives the default windows login. I am having problems with: Getting the server to authenticate users only their username. (users must type domin\username). Getting users to authenticate from outside the local subnet (basic authentication must be enabled for all users to authenticate) I would like a exchange form login screen but don't want to authenticate to a sql database so I am having a hard time figuring how to implement ONLY Active directory logins. I am confused with the IIS vs sharepoint settings since when you set items in sharepoint like changing the port number on a site it does not change the sites port in iis. So I am wondering if this is part of my problem with the farm admin account in sharepoint vs the application pool account. If anyone can point me to some relivant pages on these subjects I would be thankful. I have been pouring over pages in found by websearches and technet articles I think my head is going to explode. :)

Permissions for Profile Field Export to Active Directory

I have a service account which is currently configured with the following permissions in the root of the domain: Allow Replicate Directory Changes Allow Write Mobile Number Allow Write Fax Number Allow Write thunbmailPhoto Do I need to assign the Allow Read permission in additon to this for FIM to be able to export to these three properties, and do I need any other permissions to be assigned?Richard Green, MCSE Windows Server 2003

User Profile Syncronization - Stuck in Progress

Hi all, I have been working to get some of the MySite properties exported to Active Directory (such as thumbnailphoto). Today, I created a new domain service account (sa-sharepointadds) and granted it the nesecarry permissions on the domain. In SP, I configured the User Profile Sync to connect to the domain and do a full sync (import only at this time) which completed correctly. I then enabled exporting a couple of profile properties and started another sync. I saw in the Application Event Log that an error occured, so I used the FIM Sync Service Manager application to view the steps and the errors. I saw that the sync was running with my sa-sharepoint service account which is the Farm account and not the sync account sa-sharepointadds, and that a permission error occured because this account has no rights to modify Active Directory. I went into the User Profile Sync Connection and verified the correct account was in use and it was. I then went to Security > Configure Service Accounts and saw that I needed to change the service account for the User Sync service. I changed it to the sa-sharepointadds account. I went back to User Profile Sync, however my connection had disappeared. I tried to create a new connection and got the error that a sync is already in progress and that I cannot make changes until it finishes. I knew that nothing was currently running, so I did an iis

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Hi,

In "Edit My profile" under my profile, there is a section called "Activities I am following:" under Newsfeed Settings, I want to remove either this section or some items in that activities list. But for some reason, "Activities I am following:"  is not found in the properties list, how I can remove it? Please advice.

Thanks in advance.
