Editing fields in Datasheet - Requiring Data that is NOT required

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am trying to mass update several metadata fields across all data in one library.  The library uses multiple templates, but the required columns are all the same.  I try to display just the required items, or even ALL the items in the datasheet.  Then when editing, I get the error message that some of the required data is not showing and I must add the required data.  I've triple checked my required fields in templates and the required fields in the view -- nothing appears to be missing.  Anyone have this happend and know a solution?  Editing each item one-by-one is going to be painful.

SharePoint 2007 & Office 2010: not accepting data in required fields

We recently upgraded everyone to Office 2010, but we are still using MOSS 2007. Since the Office upgrade, I am getting numerous reports of problems with the 'required fields' of any document be editing (or newly created) when users try to save it back to the server.

These documents are throwing error messages indicating that some required properties 'are missing or invalid'. However all the needed info is indeed there. Even existing documents (that already have the field data in place) are giving the message when a save (or save as) is attempted. However, if the user saves a copy of the document locally and then manually uploads it via the SharePoint UI, it works fine. It appears to only come up when they use an Office app for editing and try to save it directly back to the server from the app. This process worked fine with Office 2007.

This only started when the Office 2010 upgrades were rolled out, and (as far as I know) no changes were made to SP at all. I have never seen this phenomenon before, so I would greatly appreciate any advice and/or education on this.  :)

Editing the Data in a GridView

In addition to deleting a GridView's underlying data, another common need is to allow end users to edit the data displayed in a GridView. With ASP.NET 1.x's DataGrid control, editing the data is certainly possible, but requires creating three event handlers and writing a dozen or so lines of code. With the GridView and ASP.NET 2.0, it is possible to create an editable GridView without writing a single line of code! All of the necessary functionality is encapsulated within the GridView.

The GridView allows editing on a row-by-row basis. An editable GridView contains an additional column with an Edit button in each row. When the end user clicks on an Edit button that row becomes editable, causing the Edit button to change to Update and Cancel buttons and the other columns to become TextBoxes. The end user can then update one or more column values and click Update to save their changes.

Create ID (uniqueid?) from two fields when data is entered

I need to create an ID from two fields when they are entered into the db for the first time.  I thought Uniqueidentifer would do this, but it looks like uniqueidentifier is random and i have no control of the process.

My user will enter 4 letters into a column called INIT and 4 numbers into a column called NUMB.  What I would like to do is create an id by combining those fields.

How can I do this?

Cutting Edge: Custom Data Control Fields

In ASP. NET 2. 0, the GridView and DetailsView controls are designed to work together. They don't merely provide complementary services, they also share a number of helper classes and components. The output of the GridView control consists of a sequence of rows, each with a fixed number of columns.

When editing a list item the fields are not blank.

This is a recent issue that I have in which I have a "Issue Tracking" List that maintains the workflow of contract renewals.

When an person goes to edit an existing list entry, the description field (standard) has the original text in the box. Prior to this the original - or any older text from a prior change was listed outside and just below the box - and non editable.

That's not the case anylonger.

Any thoughts?

GridView editing without using data source controls?

I am binding my gridview without using a datasource control and instead doing it in the code behind. However, I would like to use the inline editing features of the gridview. Could someone please point me to an example that does gridview editing/updating 'manually' in the code behind?

List view - inline editing with read only fields

How to query for id's of the fields with List Data Retrival Services Query() web service

Since i marked a post as answer in my previous topic, it seems that people dont visit the topic anymore as they see it as "answered" while it actually is only partially answered. So i guess i have to ask again in a different topic.    I need to get data from Sharepoint Server (3.0 i belive) for my Integration Services project. For that i use Sharepoint's webservices. I've read tutorials and downloaded sample programs to talk to WSS web services. I realise i have two ways to get items in a list: Use Query() or GetListItems(). Problem is, GetListItems() has a mandatory "Row limit" field and i might have to import ALOT of fields, so i thought Query() is better for me.  But, when using GetListItems(), the WSS returns the ID of the fields (for example, for a field of type user, something like "395;Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich" is returned) but when using Query() for the same list, WSS returns only the field value ("Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich") without the ID. I need it to return the ID as well. How can i set it up, on my side or server side, so i would receive the ID's, not only the values of the fields that are actually linking to something by ID when i use Query() web service?

How to make Hidden Fields appear on every other page when there are other data regions exist on the

Dev Environment: Visual Studio 2008 Client reporting(.rdlc) I have a client report with one hidden field and one table. The data for the hidden field come from one dataset and the data for the table comes from another dataset. Since there is huge data on the report, the table data spans multiple pages. at the same time i want the hidden field to appear on every other page along with table. i'm using these hidden for report header purposes. As an alternative i have used hidden parameters instead of Hidden Fields. Are there any alternatives other than this ? -- Praveen

My Site - My profile - Edit my profile - required fields

Hi All, I'm having an issue with the Edit my profile page from my sites (my profile page).  When I setup required fields through the User properties setting in central admin and then go back to Edit my profile page and try and submit the form with nothing in a required field I get no error/warning that I must enter something in the required field. For example I've setup a policy to make 'Ask me about' required, I've then went into the User properties to confirm the 'Ask me about' property has the policy setting to 'Required'.  Go back to my edit my profile page and try and submit the form with nothing in the ‘Ask me about‘ field, and the form submits with no error or warning telling me that I've not completed 'ask me about'. Any ideas, am I doing something wrong?

Putting data from a variables into a compaq sql database row of fields?

Hi everyone,  I have not used database in two years and have forgotten how to set one up completly. I have made a compaq databse 3.5 and have built the columns. I know how to put the data in manualy. I watched the Video on database and it showed how to bind controls to the datbase but it gave no method when you have the data in variables.  What I have is 7 variables some are using arrays and some are made up from data in  the arrays. I need to populate the db with the data in these variables at the time when my applications has the data ready. I have the connection set up and it does open and close the connection but every search I have made has used binding to bind database to a control that has the data in it.  What method would be the best to use performance wise? Could you point me to an example of this method? CurtisAlways Lost in Code, Always mark answers as correct if they answer you question and solve your problem.
