Web.config Authorization Roles with Local Groups with Domain Groups in them

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am "Domain\MyDomainUserName"

If I do this:

      <allow users="Domain\MyDomainUserName" />
      <deny users="*" />

I can access the website I've created on my local machine in debug mode; and with my domain account as a local administrator, if I do this:

      <allow roles="BUILTIN\Administrators" />
      <deny users="*" />

I can still access the website; and with my domain account in a Domain Group named "Domain\DomainLocalSecurityGroup", if I do this:

      <allow roles="DOMAIN\DomainLocalSecurityGroup" />
      <deny users="*" />

I can still access the website; HOWEVER, if I create a Local Group on my machine named "LocalMachineGroup" and I add "Domain\MyDomainUser

How in web.config work in MVC

I would like to secure any URL below the http://MyServer/Admins and limit it to a specific role.

In webforms it was straight forward. I just put a child web.config in the /Admin/ folder and add <authorization>  <allow roles> tags to it.

How would be the equivalent technique in MVC?

Thank you,

Multiple groups of roles in membership

Hi,I am developing this website which requires multiple groups of roles inside membership.Here is an example:I want to create a group of states (would be the first group of roles):* Oregon* California* Kansas* Texas* OhioAnd then a second group of profiles:* Admin* Section 1* Section 2* Section 3Then I want to comine these groups, so for example:* Patrick has Oregon and Section 1 role, so he can only access the state of Oregon and Section 1 module on the website.* Laura has Kansas and Section 2 role, so she can only access the state of Kansas and Section 2 module on the website.* John has Ohio, Texas and Admin and Section 1 roles, so he can only....Do you understand what I mean? How can I achieve this with .net memberhip?

WebParts +Domain Groups

This might be asked a few time before. I want to set special permissions on a webpart. Therefore we created Domain Security groups. I can use those groups for permissions on a List. When I want to use the same groups for the webpart (Edit..Advanced..Target audience) Sharepoint 2010 only accepts the Sharepint groups that I created for testing. Despite the fact that I can choose Global/Distribution-security (!!)/Sharepoint groups. Putting the domain\group in the search gives no results. Am I missing something or do I need the create a double administration (Sharepoint Groups besides AD groups)?thx

Domain groups in Cluster Security policy during install of SQL Server 2008

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows server 2003 and have a question about the stage of 'Cluster Security Policy'.

We need to select 2 groups here, one for SQL server database domain group and the other for SQL server agent domain admin group.

My question is, is it different from service accounts that we used to specify in previous versions? I remember the wizard asking for service account that the sql services need to run under. Is this domain group part a replacement for those individual service accounts? If yes, do I need to have the service account added to a separate group and select that group in this part of 'Cluster security policy'?

SQL Management Studio - Quick Create Local Server Groups (Registered Servers)

We have a lot of SQL Servers, and sometimes we need to run ad hoc queries against multiple servers at once.

Usually I add each server that I want to query under Registered Servers > Local Server Groups in SQL Management Studio. However this can become time consuming.

What I want to achieve is to be able to import a large list of Servers at once, either via a script or xml builder that can achieve this for me.

Has anyone already done this, or can they point me in the right direction?

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers in asp.net

The RadioButtonList. Very handy for inviting users to select just one item from a list although because of the screen real estate it takes up, used less and less in favour of the DropDownList. In plain HTML, the browser knows to enforce the unique selected value amongst a list of radio buttons because they all have the same value for their name attributes.

(In which AJAX-enhanced CheckBoxes become more useful than RadioButtons but inheritance saves the day, and a simple RadioButton-derived control establishes the purpose of a control's naming container)

LDAP nested groups filter

Hi all,

In my organization we use nested groups.

For a particular usage, we have a group (let's assume that the group name "kuku"), and the names of all the nested groups under it contains "kuku" as well.

We may assume that no other group in the LDAP has "kuku" in the name.

I need to create a filter which will return all the users which belong to one of the "kuku"s group.

Obviously, using this filter will bring only the head kukus

(&(&(objectclass=user)(objectclass=person))(memberOf=CN=kuku,cn=.rest of the group DN.))

How can I use wild card to fetch all users which belong to any kuku?

For example: (&(&(objectclass=user)(objectclass=person))(memberOf=CN=.*kuku.*))

Persons and Groups column in datasheet

Hi - we have a problem where we have a column in a datasheet in sharepoint. The column is a person and group column and shows all people/groups etc as well as their presence using MS communicator. Works great on all PCs expect one which is using office 2010 32 bit. When you access the column in the datasheet via that single PC it only shows one option "NT authority\authenticated users" - instead of a list of the people and groups. Any ideas of how to fix this? Thanks

Removal of out of the box security groups?

Are there any drawbacks to removing the out of the box security groups? Is are there things that depend on them? Approvers Designers Hierarchy Managers Quick Deploy Users Style Resource Readers Viewers did i miss one? I can verify that none of my sites use them. Why? because it's a new site collection. :)

HI Im getting this error when trying to set a new Service account for my performance point services. SharePoint is installed in a single server enviroment. I can´t get a new service account configured and I think this is causing my server to run slowly. Any help would be highly appreciated thanks

WebParts with audiences based on SharePoint groups containing AD Groups are not visible.

My client has two webparts on a page. Each of the webparts is audienced with a SharePoint group. Each SharePoint group contains one or more AD groups. The groups are not deep nested. I.e. SharePointGroup -----> ADGroup -----> list of user accounts.. When a user in any of these groups browses to the page, they cannot see the webpart. An AD user added to the SharePoint group sees the audiences webpart properly. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948681 references this issue, however these servers are all recently built with Service Pack 2 slipstream install media, so this hotfix is not valid. They believe that the webparts were working fine previously, but then some ILM work was carried out in the AD over the weekend and it's possible that this has changed some fo the group memberships. Given that we're using SP Groups and AD Groups, Does the actual SSP Import bear any relevance to these memberships or does SharePoint use a (potentially cached) Group memberships object on the SPPrincipal? Paul.  Overweight SharePoint addict!
