Html Pages and ASPX Pages

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi all,

The basic issue is that I have a html page that needs just a smidgeon of code on it. The issue is that I don't want to have to rewrite the whole page to be an aspx page and put all the text boxes as asp textboxes BUT I don't know how to refer to the controls on the page without doing that.

Is there any way to add a smidgeon of aspx code to a html page without having to rewrite the whole page?

All I want to do is update a textbox or two with some data.

Generating and storing html pages in User Directories on the server

I come from corporate asp.net development, and I am now working on a public website which will get a lot of traffic, perhaps a million users a day.  So I am faced with a ton of performance and scalability questions.

I would like to share some thoughts and see if my approaches resonate with any good practices, or perhaps I am heading down the wrong path...  Either way, I want to hear opinions.

(My number one concern is the fact that I am using asp.net for a public website.  I don't know of a lot of websites using asp.net)

I am using asp.net 2.0 (I know, its not the latest technology but I don't need any advanced features of asp.net 3.5 or 4, unless there are significant improvements geared towards what I am doing)

On launch date, this will be running on a dedicated Windows Server 2008 running on Intel ATOM 330 1MB L2 Cache 1.6Ghz Dual-Core with 2GB DDR RAM.  Its fully managed by a full service hosting company which gives me an option to upgrade to a bigger server within a few hours.  I can even move the site to a webfarm if the traffic demands it.

So I have a User Dashboard, where users can create albums and upload pictures.  So what I am doing

Pass values between user controls on 2 different aspx pages

I have 2 user controls that is hosted by 2 different aspx pages.example: srcpage.aspx --> hosts the --> sourceusercontrol.ascxanddestpage.aspx --> hosts the --> destinationusercontrol.ascxI would like the values in the text fields of the sourceusercontrol.ascx to be passed on to the labels in the destinationusercontrol.ascx. I have gone through the MSDN ASP.Net examples and i was able to successfully pass values between two aspx page using the postback URL functionality, but cannot do the same thing with the usercontrols on 2 different aspx pages. Any suggestions would be helpfull....! Thanks..!

Error: Access Denied on default.aspx and other pages of existing and new sites

Hi, since today we can't access the project portals of all our projects (Visual Studio TFS 2008/sharepoint admin 3.0 running on esx 4.0). I already checked every possible security settings, they're all OK. I also tried creating a new site but I can't access the site. I can however access all the settings. For example when I try to access: http://server/Sites/Profel I get the "Error: Access Denied" message and the browser is redirected to http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2Fdefault%2Easpx I have no problem navigating to: http://server/sites/Profel/_layouts/settings.aspx and I can go to al lot of pages, but when I want to create something like a calendar I can specify the parameters but when I click the create button I get the same error. http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2FLists%2Ftest%2Fcalendar%2Easpx&Type=list&name=%7B46CB3B46%2DD0F6%2D47F5%2DBA1A%2D3C9654A24A8E%7D I already tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861/en-us but no success Any help is welcome, Greetz, Peter

non-exixstent html pages persist and won't die and can't be exterminated

I'm having a rather odd problem with html pages in VWD.

I'm using VWD 2008 Express on my personel home computer with windows XP as the operating system and  developing aplications using  my home computer as the local server.  Also have a web site  server..... but thats not where the issue arises now.

Problem is, when i create a new html page,  a blank page  with typing only on the page, say:

"this is a html page"

save the page with only the above phrase on the page, I can't go back and make any changes to the page.  If i do, no matter how simple the change , all that displays is the original typing.  I also cannot modify or change  any of my much more extensively developed web pages.

Even  the simplest addition or changes  all lead to the same  result  when I use  View in Browser or use the Start debugging option VWD ignore what ever i did and displays the original HTML  content.

However if I open up the same page using IE or Mozilla Browsers, or upload the HTML page to my webhost server it shows all the changes i made.  So the problem is entirely inside VWD.    Only when i try to view the page in VWD does it appear as if no changes were made, IE/Mozilla show the changes made.

Furthermore this only happen

VS 2010 Bookmarks for aspx pages

I'm used to working with VS 2008 and toggling bookmarks in aspx pages was very useful, however in VS 2010 I'm unable to toggle bookmarks using the CTRL + K + K or the actual "Toggle bookmark" button from the bookmarks tool. Is there an option to enable this on the ASPX page, it works everywhere else though.

how to hide .aspx extension for multiple pages

In MVC it's very easy to control routing.

In my classic ASP.NET application I want to "hide" .aspx extension

I can do it with new ASP.NET 4 feature: MapPageRoute

  1. routes.MapPageRoute("login""login""~/login.aspx");
routes.MapPageRoute("login", "login", "~/login.aspx");

Now http://site.com/login will work. But I have more than 50 pages, and adding 50 rules is ridiculous.

How can I solve this?

creation of multiple .aspx pages from database name

 hi ,
i am making an internal social networking application for my small organisation where i work  .i have a list of all employee  names in a mssql 2000 database that are the names of 5000 employees of the company  one by one arranged in rows in a single coloumn of a table . i have a folder ,i want to make  .aspx files/pages in that folder ,the file name should be same as names of the person in database coloumn.can any help me with codes to automatically make the .aspx pages with the same names as it is in database coloumn.(note that folder will not take any duplicate values(name will not be repeated)) .i am making application using asp.net 2.0.file will be automatically created in the folder as soon as new name is entered in database.its very difficult to make 5000 aspx page with each employee name and it will be difficult to make new pages again and again after new employees names are entered.so i want that files will be automatically created after employee names are registered.

Debugging Stand-Alone ASPX Pages

I inherited a web site which contains many stand-alone aspx pages (with the .NET code in the page rather than in a code-behind file).  I'm wondering how to debug these pages; I cannot set breakpoints in them (I can set breakpoints in the code files on the site without issue).  I'm using Visual Studio 2008.

Handling non-aspx pages 404 error

I have enabled customError in my web.config file and it handles 'Page not found' error for aspx pages or any other files types handled by ASP runtime. My problem is my application is on a remote host and when a user tries a url on my website that ends with something other than those files types handled by ASP run time, for example http://mywesites.com/sdkdhiufuhief.hei, it displays a detailed error page by the IIS which I really don't like the malicious users to see. It contains a lot of information like the physical path of the application.

How can I handle all 404 html error regardless of the file type and URL in my ASP.NET application?

HTML Editor not working in publishing pages - SharePoint

Hello All,

I am developing a SharePoint publishing portal wherein I make use of HTML Editor(third party control) in my page layout for editing the contents.

When I try to edit the page using the publishing console, the HTML Editor which I have added in my page doesn't appear at all. I monitored the design at run time using firebug and it showed no content. Where could I be wrong?
