Drop tables where table name is a parameter

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I'm trying to drop some tables and I created a curser to do so.

The table name is a parameter.

I get an error message when I run this code in the curser.

Is there any way to run this code in a different way.

I'm trying to drop databases as well where database name is a paramerter, can I do so?

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

merging multiple tables in a single dataset to single table

i have a stored procedure which returns three tables to a dataset ..... now i need to merge all three tables to a single table from d same dataset

like dataset1 has table1 table2 and table3 .... i want all the three tabels to be merged into dataset1 itself .... instead of three diffrent tables so that i can show all three table data in a single datagrid  as a compact data and combination of 3 tables from d single dataset.....

InfoPath and Access - two parent tables and one child table

Hi there,

I'm trying to link an InfoPath form to an Access database, I want to connect the InfoPath form to 3 tables in the Access database but InfoPath will only recognise parent-child relationships in a series (e.g. the "Company" table is the parent to the "Customer" table, which is again parent to the "Orders" table)

I need to have two parent tables and one child table, though (e.g. "Customer" is parent to "Orders", but "Inventory_Item" is also parent to "Orders"). Is there any way to establish this in InfoPath? I'm using Windows XP, InfoPath 2007 and Access 2007.

Cheers, Patrick

2 questions - Dropdownlist from SQL Table and Insert into several tables

We're trying to convert an older access app with a sql server back end (with many tables) to Sharepoint. There are entry forms, update forms, look up forms, reports, etc the 2 questions I have are: 1. How can I create a dropdownlist that gets its items from a SQL table? 2. How can I create a form that, when filled out, puts items into multiple tables? Basically, I'd like to know if any of this is possible in 2010, and does anyone have any tips on where to start?

How to use parameter from Dropdownlist to populate Rep. Table

I successfully have populated a dropdownlist from a database. Now I need to create a sort of a Master/Detail situation - based on the selection in the DropDownlist, I need to populate a Repeating table. I just can't find any examples or tutorials on how to do this. I've tried stuff till my fingers were bleeding. Can someone help me figure this scenario out, please?

Dynamically Drop and Create tables, overcoming 4000 charachter limit

We have a Navision SQL-server database for 7 companies. Each table starts with the name of the company. Except for the CompanyName-part, the tables names are equal. I made a Foreach loop that dynamically transfers tables/data from the the Navision-database to a staging-database. I also want to Drop and re-Create the tables dynamically. However, if I try to do that via an expression in a SQL Task, SSIS complains about the 4000 character limit. What is a better way to do this? I want to execute SQL-commands and have SSIS replace part of the tablename with the contents of a variable (being the name of one the 7 companies). I have no access to the Management Studio or the DB so I need it to be done within the package. What is the best way to do that?

NULL label doesn't appear on drop down or multi-select parameter.

Hi, I am using SSRS 2005 SP3. I have the following query that I use for my parameter: SELECT 0 AS c1, 'NOT Specified' AS c2 UNION SELECT 1 AS c1, NULL AS c2 UNION SELECT 2 AS c1, 'Test 1' AS c2 UNION SELECT 3 AS c1, 'Test 2' AS c2 Let's call my parameter prm1. The type of prm1 is string and it has "Allow null value" and "Allow blank value" options ticked. C1 is the value field and C2 is the label field for prm1. When I preview the report, and I didn't see NULL in my drop down list,  but that record has been shown as 1 (which is the value). I am wondering if this is a normal behavior of SSRS? It's not a big deal. I can replace NULL with something else, but I am just curious. Cheers, Uzzie

DROP CONSTRAINT AND ADD/MULTI TABLES PUBLISHER, PROBLEMS IN SUSCRIPC....

Sorry my terrible english,   I will try to explain my problem, I made some data changes at the publisher and I had to throw away the PK and FK cascading multiple tables. The problem I have is that these changes were trying to apply to the subscribers and can not do because it does not in order which I did step by step through the Publisher. subscribers now show me this error and does not synchronize anything, and takes 0.5 sec and gives the error infinitely I need help, which infinitely grateful Error messages: The schema script ' if exists (select * from sysconstraints where constid = object_id(N'[FinancieroAbonos_PK]')) if object_id(N'[dbo].[FinancieroAbonos]') is not null exec('ALTER TABLE [dbo].[FinancieroAbonos] DROP CONSTRAINT [FinancieroAbonos_PK] ')' could not be propagated to the subscriber. Excel Drop Table question

Can anyone tell me if the drop table syntax should delete only the data in a worksheet or clear the formatting as well. If not is there a way to clear all the formatting. Thanks

CSS float tables only allowing row of tables start at table header

Hi,I have a page of tables which take in information from the user. I am trying to get the tables to float to the right so I have two rows of tables. But for some reason. Each row of tables starts together. So there is a gap on one of the sides before the next table. Any help would be really appreciated  The CSS is .tableColumnFormat{    padding-top: 3px;    padding-bottom:3px;        width: 180px;    }.labelFormat{    float: left;    padding-left: 5px;    text-align: right;    font-size: medium;    width:180px;    }.tableFormat{        background-color:White;    width: 450px;    border:solid 1.5px #38a7db;        float: left;    margin-bottom:10px;    margin-left:10px;    margin-right:10px;}.tableColumnFormat2{    float:left;        padding-left:5px;    }.headerFormat{    text-align: left;    padding-left: 10px;    color:White;    background-image:url('App_Themes/MasterTheme/Images/table_header_background3.gif');    }

Find all tables that depend on table with FK column

I need to write a stored procedure that when passed the id of a row on a table, will query all tables that are referencing that row and move the data to another row.  I am doing this because we have 2 seperate systems that are linked by a table and sometimes things get out of whack and you have to manually move information over. I have this query that can find all the dependent tables, my question is what would I add to this to obtain the name of the column that is the foreign key on that tables.  SELECT o.name[parentTable], o2.name[childTable] FROM sys.sysobjects o INNER JOIN sys.sysforeignkeys fk ON fk.rkeyid = o.id INNER JOIN sys.sysobjects o2 ON o2.id = fk.fkeyid AND o2.id <> o.id WHERE o.name = 'tablename' I want to do this as a query because I want the procedure to be able to detect any new tables that might have been added.

Most Recent records from one of the table among the tables in multiple joins.

Hi All

I have a single select query with multiple table joins in it.

I want to retrieve the Most Recent records from one of the table among the tables in multiple joins.

EXAMPLE:

(select t1.col1, t2.col2 , t3.col3, t4.col4, t4.Add_Date,t5.col5,

from dbo.table1 t1

left outer join dbo.table2 t2 on t1.col1=t2.col2

left outer join

(select col3 from dbo.table3 where condition1="expr") as t3

on t1.col1=t3.col3

left outer join dbo.table4 t4 on t1.col1=t4.col4 order by t4.Add_Date

left outer join dbo.table5 t5 on t1.col1=t5.col5 )

Problem is that, I am not able to use the "Order by" for a particular table.

Thanks

Join Tables For Definitions (Data Table/Definition Table)

Hi,

I am well versed with Join/Outer Join/Inner Join. My question is not related to normal Joining of two tables. Its little complex. Let me see if I can explain well.

There are two tables, were data is stored.

Table_Spec_Data
Name_Info : nvarchar(10)
Date_Info : smalldate()
Spec_Info_1 : tinyint
Spec_Info_2 : tinyint
Spec_Info_3 ; tinyint

Table_Name_Data
Name_Data : nvarchar(10)
City_Data : nvarchar(10)
State_Data : nvarchar(10)

To join these two tables, I use the following query (joined on Name_Info ON Name_Data)

SELECT Name, Date=CONVERT(varchar, Date, 101), City, State,
CASE Spec_Info_1 WHEN '0' THEN 'House' WHEN '2' THEN 'Shop' WHEN '3' THEN 'Bay' ELSE '-' END AS Spec_Info_1,
CASE Spec_Info_2 WHEN '0' THEN '10 Feet' WHEN '2' THEN '20 Feet' WHEN '3' THEN '40 Feet' ELSE '-' END AS Spec_Info_2,
CASE Spec_Info_3 WHEN '0' THEN '2 Windows' WHEN '2' THEN '4 Windows' WHEN '3' THEN '6 Windows' ELSE '-'  END AS Spec_Info_3
FROM Table_Spec_Data LEFT OUTER JOIN Table_Name_Data On Table_Spec_Data.Name_Info=Table_Name_Data.Name_Data

Performance Drop when switching from a #temp table to a @temp table variable

I am trying to convert a stored procedure to a table valued function and the performance has taken a HUGE hit and I was wondering if there was anything that can be done about it. Since a table valued function can not use #temp tables it must be converted to a @temp table variable.

Here are some steps I have already taken...

The original stored proc starts off by populating a #temp table via "Select x Into #temp ..."

Leaving it a stored proc for now, I explicitly created the #temp table and did an "Insert Into ... Select From" to more closely model how it must work when using a @temp table variable. There was no discernible performance difference.

Still leaving it as a stored proc, I then swapped out the #temp table with the @temp table variable and now, all of the sudden, the performance drops from sub-second to over a minute!!!

The temp table only has one field defined as an int and it is distinct, so I tried making the field the Primary Key to see if that would help and it did not.

The temp table is created by scanning a table with around 11,000 rows and the temp table itself has about 4400 rows in it (if it makes a difference to anyone).

Does anyone have any suggestions (or hope) for me?

Thanks,
Jim
