The error "The "GenerateResource" task failed unexpectedly." on Win7/64bit on VS2010 C#.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I keep getting this error message all the time. The same code works in xp32+VS2010 C#, when I bring it to win7/64bit, the error message appears. It started when I have a picturebox added to my form and have a jpg file inside the picturebox. I got "System.BadImageFormatException" a couple of times, I really don't know how to fix that to go ahead. I have checked some posts in this forum, some ones suggested set my application target platform to X86. I did set my target platform to x86, not working.

I am wondering if anything else I can try. Any help will be appreciated!

The error message is:

Error 1 The "GenerateResource" task failed unexpectedly.

Controllers AccountController IFormsAuthentication MVC 2 error vs2010

I finally got around to trying vs2010 and MVC 2 ... I'm glad I did not put them on a production computer.

My first compile (I have not had a chance to investigate because I just did this and I am too tired).

All I did was create a MVC 2 solution with MSTEST Unit Testing selected too.

I compiled it and get four unexpected errors (because I have heard ASP.NET MVC 2 "alpha" and vs2010 Beta 2 are supposed to be somewhat robust):

In both HomeController and AccountController:

"The type or namespace name "Controllers" does not exist ins the namespace "mvczzzzz001" occurs twice, once for HomeController.cs and once for AccountController.cs.

AccountControllerTest.cs has two errors:  can not find "AccountController" namespace and can not find "IFormsAuthentication" namespace.

With ASP.NET MVC v1.0 there are errors when one uses xUnit.net (version at time of ASP.NET MVC v1.0 RTM) as the test framework but not errors with MSTEST (I prefer xUnit.net to MSTEST).

I am just so surprised to find such errors in vs2010 + MVC 2 ....

is this happening to anyone else?????????????????

Thank you ~~ regards, Gerry (Lowry)

WPF+ VS2010: Design mode error "The URI prefix is not recognized"?

our application uses VS2008 and WPF. To apply the styles in the design mode, we have used the "BlendMergedDictionary" class (see the following link) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/995101/how-do-i-get-wysiwyg-design-in-blend-vs-without-merged-resourcedictionary-in-ever It works very well in VS2008 IDE. Now we plan to move our application to VS2010. In VS2010 Design mode (click on ~.xaml design), we get error message:  "The URI prefix is not recognized."    at System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Uri requestUri, Boolean userUriBase)    at System.Net.WebRequest.Create(Uri requestUri)    at MS.Internal.WpfWebRequestHelper.CreateRequest(Uri uri)    at System.Windows.ResourceDictionary.set_Source(Uri value) the styles does not apply at the design time. It works fine in runtime. The following are the code: public class BlendMergedDictionary : ResourceDictionary { /// <summary> /// This class the purpose is allow we reference the "themes" and "styles" in resource dictionaries in separated assemblies /// by using StaticResource. Hi, my ClickOnce application is running fine on XP/IIS6 and several other Window Versions. On Win7-64bit it does not work. The CR/LF-problem was solved in the application itself, but ClickOnce seems to have the same problem that we had.   Any idea? Error while trying to register DLLs for Microsoft Jet on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Hello! I'm having issues with importing Excel spreadsheets into Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit server.  After browsing the web, it appears that the problem is with the DLL's used by Microsoft Jet.  I've thus attempted to re-register these DLL's.  However, I am receiving the following results. c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjetoledb40.dllSuccessful c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjet40.dllSuccessful c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjint40.dllThe module "msjint40.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjter40.dllThe module "msjter40.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjtes40.dllSuccessful c:\Windows\SysWOW64> regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\mswstr10.dllThe module "mswstr10.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found I've set the application pool for this site to use 32bit.  Please note that due to my role on the team, other options such as using ACE are not available to me, unless I can prove that I've exhausted all other options. Upgraded to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64bit and now all my VS2010 db apps won't run

I am running WIN764bit, VS2010 and just "upgraded" from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64 bit.  When I went back into VS2010 and tried to run and test several database apps that I have developed, I find that I keep getting the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instrance".  I have read a lot of threads here but I am not getting anywhere.  I can create a new SQL Server database, but can't find any of my existing .dbo connections and can't open any of the .mdf's from within Server Explorer (VS2010).  Any ideas? BTW the install went fine. And I have User Instance set to True in VS2010.

Side-side by config error on Win7 64 apps if VS2008 is not installed on the system

Hi, I am using Win 764 bit application. When I try to run my application in target machine Iam gettting the following error. The application is running fine if the target machine has VS2008 and SP1 installed   "Unable to Load TekRobo Dll. The application has failed to start because its side -by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe for more detail (Exception from HRESULT:0x800736B1.)"        The Evn log viewer mesaage is as given below: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Tektronix\TekRobo\TekRobo.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.DebugCRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.   Actually the dll which has a problem is originally developed in VC++ and it is using Win32 APIs. Recendly I have moved the code base from VC6 to VS2008 and I have compiled the dlls in 64 bit mode. Any thoughts? Thanks,Mohan Mohan das Gandhi

VS2010 has stopped working error adding new item to folders in MVC2

I am using VS2010 Pro in 64 bit Windows 7. When I add a new item to a folder in an ASP.NET MVC2 project, VS frequently crashes with a "Visual Studio has stopped working" error and then closes down. If I re-open the project the item is not visible in the MVC project folder, (but it is visible to windows explorer although I think it's corrupted). If I then try to add the item again, it warns me that it already exists and asks to overwrite, choosing yes to overwrite usually works OK.  When adding an .edmx item it is more problematic, I can't overwrite it but because I know that there actually is a file in the folder, (although not visible and albeit corrupted), I can add it as an existing item and then choose "update model from database" to get it to work. This error is happening more and more frequently.
