Add and View Only "Their" items

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a permission problem that I can't seem to solve.  I have a list that I want users to be able to submit items and only view their items.  I know there is a built in Read Access: Only their own.... but this doesn't help me in my case.  This is because first of all I imported a large amount of data for the users into the system.  Second on occasion managers might need to submit items for the user.  I do have a User field that has the correct user set but I can't control the item permission by that.  For the imported data I am actually the "create by" person for their items because I did the import.  I could also limit this by taking away all the views that would let them view data beside theirs but them having permission to add items I can't hide or disable the views function.

Any ideas?  Oh ya, I am running WSS 3 not MOSS... Deny permission would be nice right now.

How do I get the Sharepoint 2007 KPI to use the "Calculation using all list items in the view"

I have a custom SP list that contains a numeric column in the list and the view selected for the KPI. The option to calculate using all items in the view is grayed out.  Sometimes SP will let me create a KPI like this, then I go back to the webpart and the indicator has reverted back to just a simple count of the number of items in the list.  I want to use the "calculate all items" from a numeric column and have my KPI stay that way? Any thoughts?

How to properly configure permissions so users can view, add, edit, and delete list items, but not w

I am trying to figure out how to properly setup security so that it can be configured at the top-level, and then inherited all the way through. Here is what I would like to do: Each user can view, add, edit, and delete list items - but, users cannot modify or delete web part pages. The only way I know how to do this is set Contribute from the top-down, and then go into each Site Pages library and set Read access. The problem is that I have 100 sites, and I was hoping there was a way I could set security at the top, and inherit downward. Rather than having to go into all 100 Site Pages library and set Read access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

View All Site Content Showing the wrong number of items

NOTE:  Similar post also had no answer: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointecm/thread/f775ba0d-648f-4be3-9017-78539915b281/ I am the Site Collection Administrator/and also tried logging in using Farm Account.  I go into View All Site Content and I show 15 documents.  When you actually go to the All Items view (and I double-checked, no filtering), you only find 9 documents.  Versioning is not turned on.  I am a developer, so I also used the Web Service to try to troubleshoot.  The Lists.asmx web service shows an Item Count of 15 using the GetList method.  However, using the GetListItems method, the item Count reports 9 items, which is what I see in my browser. Is there an stsadm command that I can run that will "true up" this number being reported in View All Site Content? Thanks in advance. - Update -  MOSS 2007 v 3.0 server farm.

problem with displaying items in list view web part

I have a list view webpart at default display form. Default Display form display items (for example) from the contracts documents library. List view webpart also associated with the same documents library (contracts). In such case this webpart doesn't display any item. But if I add another list view web part associated with warrants document library it display item without any problems. Is it possible to bind list view webpart to another data source for contracts document library? Or maybe another solution? Thanks!

Items that I select in design view are not being highlighted in source view

I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and when I select/highlight something in design view and switch to source view it does not highlight and scroll to the selected item. This makes it really hard to change stuff in source view, and it's very inconvenient at worst. Any ideas?

Document Library View - "Folders or Flat --> Show all items without folders" setting not being saved

A view of a document library has a setting under Folders area if the files should be shown in their respective folder or just a flat list of file. If "Show all items withtout folders" is selected, following is my observation:

- Saving the document library as a template and creating new libraries from this template takes this setting into the new library as expected
- Saving the site as a template and creating a new site from template removes this setting from the existing document libraries in newly created sites. If a new document library is created from the document library template, the setting is ON as expected.

This seems to be related to what being discussed here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3574095/hiding-folder-structure-for-a-view-in-sharepoint-2010-list-definition and http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010programming/thread/05e46fc9-cb26-4d00-aaf0-e4b6ee944104

Any feedback?

How to Access List view webpart selected items

I'm displaying a list view in list view web part on web part page.

I want a solution to get selected items from the list view web part.

As I am displaying these results on web part page, i don’t have access to ribbon to add any custom buttons.

Any client side or server side code solution should be fine.

Thanks in advance.

I tried this code but it's returns null values

var ctx = SP.ClientContext.get_current();
              var items = SP.ListOperation.Selection.getSelectedItems(ctx);
              var myItems = '';
              var k;
              for (k in items)

Error: There are no items to show in this view. SharePoint Designer 2010

Hi, i got this error while editing a sharepoint subsite in SharePoint Designer 2010. We are using SharePoint 2010, Office 2010, Windows 7 and SharePoint Designer 2010 x32.

When i now open my subsite in SharePoint Desinger i cant see any Lists and Libraries, no Workflows and no Site Pages. I get these messages:

"There are no items to show in this view."
"The Document Library view connot be displayed for this Web site."

All the Libraries and Files still exist and i can view the sites still in browser. I see them at "all files". But i cant edit anything or change things.

Does anybody know that issue? What can i do to fix that?

Best regards

How to display the latest list items in the data view webpart

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to the SharePoint designer. So don't know much of its capabilities.

I am creating a dataview webpart which display the data from the sharepoint list. In this webpart, i have to display data only for last created date means if we have data in list for 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th march data view display data for date 15th march.
I tried using the simple filter with current date but that not worked. Any idea how we can achieve this.

Thanks in advance,
Thanks, Cool Developer

Display data from two lists in a single Data View - how to edit/delete/view items?

I have an aggregate dataview from two lists. (something like this http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/display-data-from-multiple-sources-in-a-single-data-view-HA010099144.aspx#BM3)

The problem is, that when I click on "Data view properties", the options in Editing tab (edit link, delete link and view link) are greyed out.

 I'd like to create custom delete/edit/view link for rows in that dataview with linked source. Any idea?

SPD: Getting subtotals for items in a sub view.

SPD: I have two lists: Customers and Services. Customers is the "Parent List", and may have multiple values in the "Services" list, but should only have one per year. The entire report is restricted to one year, so that should not be an issue. I have my dvwp all set up, and am able to display one line per customer, and group as needed. My only sticking point is that I cannot get the subtotals or totals for a field in the subview. The field I need to subtotal on is "TotalMoney".

I am thinking that an XPath Formula field is the way to go, but I am not getting anywhere. I feel I'm on the right track, but am stuck. Something like this:

sum(/dsQueryResponse/ChildList/Rows/Row[@ParentIDSavedinChildList= /dsQueryResponse/ParentList/Rows/Row/@ID]  AND [/dsQueryResponse/ChildList/Rows/Row[@GroupedField= /dsQueryResponse/ParentList/Rows/Row/@GroupedField)/@TotalMoney

I know that is not in the correct format. I'm not sure how to throw an "and" clause in there, or even if it's possible. Thoughts? The only ideas that I have kind of stink. May a separate report for each grouping. Create a calculated field for each potential grouping (a total nightmare).

Thoughts? Please? I'll give you chocolate or beer - your choice :)

My Items in Public View

I have a list that I want to create a public view where whoever chooses the view it will recognize their current user and show just their items. I need to compare a field(Technician) to the variable of another field(CurrentUser), but using the field names in the filter criteria isn'g working. Can someone please give me some direction in this? Thank you

GridView Parent Child View with JQuery Effects

I was just checked how to add some more cool effects to the GridView control using JQuery. In this post I will display parent-child data in the GridView control with some help of the wonderful JQuery library.

Let's first populate the GridView control.

jQuery: Styling DropDownList Alternating Items (Rows)

In the following example, I will show how you can style any asp:dropdownlist very easily.

The example demonstrates how you can change alternating row items background color, using the fadeTo() to add a nice touch in the dropdownlist. You can change alt rows with a couple lines.

Hide a repeater in ASP.NET C# if the DataSource contains no items?

I have an ASP.NET page that uses a repeater nested within another repeater to generate a listing of data. It's to the effect of the following:
In the (C#) code-behind I'm basically using LINQ to pull a listing of information from an XML document and bind that information to the first repeater.

Searching for the answer to this, it seems the method is to determine whether the data for the nested repeater is empty. If it is, then you set the visibility of the repeater to false.

Model View Controller (MVC) for ASP.NET

Model View Controller (MVC) architectures, immediately wonder how the MVC pattern can be applied in an ASP.NET world. This article will demonstrate how the MVC pattern can be applied to an ASP.NET web application and still maintain the basic Microsoft supplied architecture.
