SharePoint has opened the search UI so that you are now able to extend the out-of-the-box search Web parts. Search also provides many places for you to create custom code to produce a rich search experience for your users. (Length: 2:04)

User Manual for Sharepoint Foundation 2010

Is there an user manual for Sharepoint Foundation 2010?  We downloaded this product in order to create an intranet for our firm, but the software is NOT intuitive and does not provide clear click-by-click instructions on how to do this.  We need an instruction manual asap, that includes a sub-section on how to easily design and create an intranet.  Thank you.

Anonymouse user - Cannot search in SharePoint 2010

I've implemented anonymous access on a publishing portal running on SharePoint 2010.  The site is accessible but the minute I try to complete a search the user is challenged.Search is currently configured to use the native page (_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx) and I doubt that NTFS permissions is playing a role.http://technicallead.wordpress.com/

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express

I have Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express installed. The Sharepoint was an upgrade from WSS v3 and search server express 2003.

After the upgrade whenever users search from the main site I get web part errors displayed on the search page. I think because it is trying to use the old search server express which is no longer installed.

Search Server Express 2010 is now installed and a Search Center web page can be viewed however when searching via the entire sites I site the web page with web part errors.

Any thoughts or any further information you require I can provide.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

Can I get some clarification on a couple of points?

Firstly, what is the recommended installation path for SPFoundation and Search Server Express on the same server.  Do I just install SSE 2010?  Or SPF 2010 and then SSE 2010?

Secondly, when the two are installed together how do I add the a SSE 2010 search center link to my SPF 2010 site so I can search all crawled content?  I've created crawls of Exchange public folders and file shares but when I use the built-in site search box it's only returning content crawled from the local site and not anything from the other crawls.

Integrating Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

I've been searching for ways to do this but I haven't come up with anything.  Surely this is a very common need/want.  Basically I want to use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 but I would like to run Search Server Express in the same installation.  Additionally instead of going to a dedicated search page and then searching, I'd like to add the Search Server Express search functionality as a Web Part to the Sharepoint Foundation home page.  Is there any documented procedures to this?  If not how have you done it?

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation vs Search Server 2010 Express

Does Search Server 2010 Express include Sharepoint Foundation? Or do I need to install Sharepoint first and then install Search Server on top? This is for a brand new install on a single server.

Sharepoint 2010 Manage User Profile Search

We have about 650 user profiles loaded and all seem to be pulling up correct with the sharepoint sites.  The profiles are available to the end user.  However when I try to search for any profiles in Central Administration -> Manage User Profiles, it only retrieves a few back (~10).   There are no profiles in the "Missing from import" section either.  I have tried all different types of criteria (domain\accountname, accountname, domain...)

Any help as to why I cannot pull up the profiles would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way..  the page displays that we have 650 user profiles as well.  "Total Number of Profiles: 650"

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - How to search non MS office documents

I came across the following article

The article states the following

"I discovered that SharePoint Foundation does not allow iFilters. Therefore, pdfs cannot be scanned and cannot be included in Search. This is going to be a major bummer for some people.
Fortunately, solutions involving SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Search do exist. As you may know, both these products are not free, and there are some constraints about where and how Search can be installed.
After quite a bit of research on the “Search” dilemma, I’ve been successful in discovering the solution to the problem for SharePoint Foundation 2010 clients. It cannot be found in the SharePoint 2010 manual and it was by no means easy."

The solution is NOT provided so I don't even know if this is even real...

Anyway my question is, does anybody knows a way to Search non office documents with Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (like pdf's, jpeg, etc.)?

Thank you!

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation search question

I'm new to Sharepoint and have just setup 2010 Foundation.  I know that it's search will only index the contents of Office docs and that you can't install ifilters in Foundation.  However, I would think that all documents uploaded to a doc library should be searchable by file name, is that correct?  However, using pdf's has an example, in my testing, search results come up empty when searching for keywords in the filename.  In order to make these files searchable, I have to edit their properties and add a Title.

I know that not all users will bother to manually add a Title to all documents, so we need to be able to find files by their names, how is this possible?

SharePoint Foundation 2010 - How to ensure uniqueness of SharePoint user identity when using multipl

Hi everyone,

here is my situation:

  • I have a SharePoint Foundation 2010 web application extended to 2 IIS sites.
  • Web application has been set up (on creation) to use claims based authentication (because we needed to use FBA).
  • First IIS site is set up to use Windows Integrated Authentication (Kerberos).
  • Second IIS site is set up to use Forms Based Authentication (with LDAP connection to AD).
  • Both sites can be normally accessed and sucessfully authenticate users.

My problem is that two separate SharePoint logins must be created for each AD user who needs to access the web application using both authentication mechanisms. Those two logins have the following username structure:

  • i:0#.w|mydomain\username
  • i:0#.f|myldapmembershipprovider|username

The unfortunate consequence is that any items assigned in SharePoint lists and libraries that were <created under/assigned to/modified by/checked out> by user's windows login aren't <visible/available/modifyable> under users FBA login and vice versa.

I'd like to have a single SharePoint user account regardless of the authentication mechanism used to access the web application.

Is this possible and is there a standard mechanism in SharePoint/IIS

SharePoint Foundation - Search Server Express 2010 "upgrade" ?

I have an existing install of SP2010 Foundation. Can I just install Search Server Express 2010 on the WFE server and connect it to the existing farm? Or can I "upgrade" SP2010 Foundation to Search Server Express 2010?

How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson
