MOSS 2007 Shared service provider failed (SSP) in "Search settings"

I click on "Search settings" in SSP then the following error: "The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether the service is enabled. This might also be because an indexer move is in progress. ".

My SSP work fine last time, but for now it fails in "Search settings". I checked very carefully.

Office Sharepoint Server Service (OSSS) is started, "Index Server Default File Location" in OSSS is D:\MOSS_index.

"Path for index file location" of SSP is D:\MOSS_index with full right permission is ok and shared. But i checked folder D:\MOSS_index and folder   D:\MOSS_index is empty, guid folder in D:\MOSS_index was lost.  I checked "Search Administration" in SSP and found that "Items in index" is 0 and "Crawl status" is error, "Default content access account" is error.

FASTSearchQueryException encountered when creating FAST Search query scopes in PowerShell

Hi, I made an update to an existing FAST Search query scopes. The updates are on the ExtendedSearchFilter parameter. Since the Set-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope PowerShell cmdlet does not work to update the parameter, I removed the existing scopes using Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope and created new scopes using the New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlets. I have noticed that after creating the scopes, I sometimes encounter the "The search request was unable to execute on FAST Search Server" (FASTSearchQueryException) when executing query against the search scope. I am not sure if the exception is related to how the scope objects are disposed after running the Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlet. I tried to look into the Event logs of the FAST search server but I was not able to see the error. I would like to ask the community if the exception can be attributed to the exsiting scopes that were removed then recreated.  Thanks. Search server 2010 setup - error creating search service application

I am running in a very similar siutation as this post:

I am configuring a new Search Server 2010 production environment.

I used the search setup account to run the setup and run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard.

During the first run of the SharePoint configuration wizard (where the farm account and service applications are setup), the process failed because the search service application could not be created.

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: User does not have permissiont to perform this action.

I was under the assumption that the setup account had securityadmin and dbcreator SQL Server roles.  However, this was not the case and I had them added.  My original thought was the setup failed because of this.  After those roles were added, I tried to recreate the search service application and I still get a failure.

I am pretty sure I have followed the prerequisites as prescribed by Microsoft in terms of account setup (

Issue with creating a new Search Service Application

I am new to SharePoint, so please bare with me.

1)      Installed SQL Server 2008 on a virtual machine

2)      Installed SharePoint Server 2010 on another virtual machine and configured it in a Farm environment. Installed and configured FAST search successfully on this same machine.

3)      One of the initial steps for post installation of FAST Search states that we have to create a new Search Service Application.

a)      Tried to create a New Search Service application using the following steps:

Editing Shared service provider --> Managing policies (SharePoint 2007)

This question pertains to editing "Profile Services Policies" after creation. Can it be done programmatically?

When I open Central Admin and click my SSP I navigate to [User Profiles and My Sites]-->[Profile services policies].

On the Profile services policies page I have a list of profile properties to choose.

I want to edit one of the properties but I see this message: The name will be used programmatically for the property by the user profile service, while the display name is the label used when the property is shown. After the property is created the only property setting you can change is the display name.

All I want to do is change the property to "Allow Multiple Values" but since I can't do this through central admin I want to know if I can do it programmatically (ie.. edit an xml file or something along that line)..

Thanks for any help!

Creating and Using an ASP.NET Web Service in Visual Web Developer

In addition to letting you create Web pages, Microsoft Visual Studio also lets you create Web services that use ASP.NET XML. Creating a Web service in Visual Studio is similar to creating a Web page. You can also use the Microsoft Visual Web Developer Web development tool to reference and use Web services that are in a Visual Web Developer solution, on your local computer or in a local or external UDDI directory. In this walkthrough, you will create the Web service in one solution and use it in another.

Tasks illustrated in this walkthrough include:

Creating a simple XML Web service in Visual Web Developer.

Creating a separate Web site that uses the Web service.

Any framework for creating a job scheduler service?

Just curious to know if there was any official Microsoft code blocks, classes, or such for writing a service that runs other assemblies or WCF services?  That can be configured easily from a web page, pre-coded, for running tasks at certain times on certain recurring intervals?  I've already built one but am open to anything done better- which I'm sure there is.  Thanks!!!

Cutting Edge: A Provider-Based Service for ASP.NET Tracing

When it comes to catching programming errors, the debugger is a developer's best friend. ASP. NET tracing, however, is a nice complement to the debugger and shouldn't be overlooked. It enables your ASP.

"Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try ..."

i have a problem with search function where everytime i search any file/doc the error message "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information." occurred. I realized that there are items in central admin but it is "not available" in my site. I already follow several guides that had been provided in this forum but still the same. Even, i already create new SSP and configure the search scope, content source and also crawling.

FYI, i used Microsoft Sharepoint 2007.

Hope anyone could help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

How do I search a SUBSITE using the spsearch Web service in WSS 3.0?

I have figured out how to access the spsearch web service API, and created a query packet like this:

<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query'>

However, it's returning results for my home collection.  I need a way to filter for any sub-site collection.  Is this possible?  I have been searching for a couple hours and so far have no clue.  I have tried entering other parameters inside the QueryText field as I see them on my actual SharePoint search, but this method does not work here.

This is not for a "getlistitems" call.  I am calling "spsearch" using the "query" or "queryex" action.  Thanks.

Creating an database search application in VS C#

Hello everyone, I wish to create a C# application that will have a form and a text box where I can enter a text, and then ask the application to search if this text exists in a database. If it exists, I want all the information associated with this text to be displayed in a datagrid view or list box. I am able to create a database in SQL Server and I can connect to my database from VS 2005 C#. If this is possible, how do I go about it? Many thanks in advance.
