Testing ASMX Web Service in VB.Net with SOAPUI

Posted By: Posted Date: September 29, 2010 Points: 0 Category :ASP.Net

I am trying to test the web service method in VB.net through SOAP UI .

The request message from the SOAPUI to the web service method is not being reached to the code when debugging .How the request message gets nullified before it reaches code is really tricky to find.

SOAP UI validates the request message before calling the service.

I have validated the request several times and checked all the datatype of properties

In below request The transactiondata node is xmlnode type

The sample request I am sending is

<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:ten=http://test.com/TA>

Service Station: Run ASMX Without IIS

When the Microsoft® . NET Framework first shipped, it introduced a breakthrough Web services framework known as ASMX. The motivation behind the ASMX design was to simplify the process of developing Web services as much as possible so that even if you're not an XML expert, you can get a Web service up and running.

VS2005 calling VS2010 asmx service returns empty string

Anyone have any experience with this?

We are using VS 2005 for the front end, and vs 2010 for the web services part (asmx), not wcf yet.

Web service works just like the vs2005 when run locally, no problems.

Connecting to it from a test app returns an empty string. Connecting to a 2005 app doesn't!

Anyone run into this before or have a suggestion? Surely vs 2005 can connect to web services from a later version?

How do consume an ASMX service?

I need to consume and ASMX service on my website.

This service has to be authenticated and results would be displayed on my website.

Can you please give be step by step instructions on how do i do it?

I am using VS 2008 VB or C# is fine by me.

I had checked on various forums and its not really giving me the required steps (baby steps here)

Thanks a lot

Trying to call an asmx web service from a test project

I am trying to create a proxy for an asmx web service. The only thing I find in Visual Studio 2008 is a service reference. How do I call an asmx web service with a service reference? Certified Geek. Professional Data dude.

jQuery calls asmx web service

I have a jQuery method that calls a .asmx web service. the jquery method only executes one time but the web serivce executes multiple times. Is there a way this could happen or ways to debug this beyond breakpoints in the c# code and alerts in the jQuery.

Lifetime of asmx web service/IIS application

Hi I have a web service (asmx). I want to add a functionality where in I have to do polling for data on a URL. I added a timer and in the timer elapsed event handler I am checking for the data. (Is it a good design? Is there something better than timer for this in ASP.NET?) But what I observed is that, after some time, if the web service is ideal (no request are sent to the service), the timer event doesn't fire. Is this something by design or I have some configuration issues here. Is it very standard that if web site is ideal then the objects in that site are destroyed? I have few static objects maintaining the state should I not keep them there? Is there any configuration that allowes the service to stay alive dispite of the request sent to it or not? When web site is ideal, its only the website which goes in ideal state or IIS goes in ideal state? I mean my timer stopped is it because nobody called by web service or its because nobody called the IIS on that machine (any other web service or web application deployed on IIS)?

Unable to call an asmx web service using windows authentication from a Service workflow

Hello, I need to use an existing asmx service from inside my service workflow and I am unable to call it. This asmx service is hosted in a web application with iis set to windows authentication, anonymous is not allowed. I need to send the authentication, only way seems too be using transport for basicHttpBindings. Every time I try to call the service I get an error saying that there is nothing listening to the url of the service generated automatically by VS when I added the Service Reference ? my web config <configuration> <configSections> </configSections> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <protocolMapping> <add scheme="http" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WindowsCreds" /> </protocolMapping> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="UtilitiesSoap" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="65536" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"

Problem With SharePoint Designer 2010 and the Search.asmx Web Service

I've created a web service datasource on a 2010 site using SharePoint Designer. When I try to make use of the datasource on a page I get the "The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source..." message. The datasource connects to _vti_bin/search.asmx. I am using the QueryServiceSoap port and operation QueryX. I've tried various queryXml strings, including site & people searches using both SQL and keyword syntax. eg <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?><QueryPacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Query" Revision="1000"><Query domain="QDomain"> <SupportedFormats><Format>urn:Microsoft.Search.Response.Document.Document</Format></SupportedFormats> <Context> <QueryText language="en-US" type="MSSQLFT"><![CDATA[ SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, Description, Author FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS ('"Lorum"') AND ( ("SCOPE" = 'All Sites') ) ORDER BY "Rank" DESC ]]></QueryText> </Context> <Range><StartAt>1</StartAt><Count>20</Count></Range> <EnableStemming>false</EnableStemming> <TrimDuplicates>true</TrimDuplicates> <IgnoreAllNoiseQuery>true&l

problems with Consuming WCF service in SoapUI

Hi, Rather new to WCF!! I have created a simple WCF web service in a Console application and successfully tested consuming it in a .Net Console application client. i have used the default binding behaviour stuff in my host as below: Uri baseAddress = new Uri("http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/Service"); ServiceHost selfHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(CalculatorService), baseAddress); try { selfHost.AddServiceEndpoint( typeof(ICalculator), //the contract new WSHttpBinding(), //the binding "CalculatorService"); //the endpoint address ServiceMetadataBehavior smb = new ServiceMetadataBehavior(); smb.HttpGetEnabled = true; selfHost.Description.Behaviors.Add(smb); selfHost.Open(); Console.WriteLine("The service is ready at {0}.", baseAddress); Console.WriteLine("Press <ENTER> to terminate service."); Console.WriteLine(); Console.ReadLine(); // Close the ServiceHostBase to shutdown the service. selfHost.Close(); } catch (CommunicationException ce) { Console.WriteLine("An exception occurred: {0}", ce.Message); selfHost.Abort(); } my problem is that I would like to consume this service in SoapUI. Unit testing is locking up WCF service?

I am trying to write some unit tests (more integration tests actually) to hit a live IIS server hosting my WCF service. Whenever I run a test though, if one of my Assert statements fails on the client side, my WCF service seems to lock up- and I have to do an iisreset to get things back online. For example, I have in a test method 3 calls from my service client to WCF service- Call1, Call2 and Call3. The first time through, Call1 works great, Call2 works great and then Call3 fires the Assert because some data is not correct. On the next time through the test, Call1 fails with the following error: "An exception of type 'System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException' occurred in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in user code Additional information: An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://localhost/Kiosk/KioskSite.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details." After doing an iisreset everything is okay again. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

ASMX web service soap fault

Hi,I have a ASMX web service, and as I understand the ASMX services does not include soap fault details in the WSDL.Thus, I have changed the generated WSDL to include soap fault. Will this cause any error in the endpoint systems?Regards,

soap error while using web service (DspSts.asmx)

Hi, I am using SP webservice. I think something is not right with my soap. Using Fiddler, I can see my soap request and response where I got HTTP 500 error when making a call to SP WS. Here is the Response: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"><soap:Body><soap:Fault><faultcode>soap:Client.Dsp.Syntax</faultcode><faultstring>Request is empty.</faultstring></soap:Fault></soap:Body></soap:Envelope> And here is my soap request: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <soap:Header xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <dsp:versions xmlns:dsp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/dsp"> <dsp:version>1.0</dsp:version> </dsp:versions> <dsp:request xmlns:dsp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/dsp" service="DspSts" document="content" method="query"> </dsp

Deploying .asmx web service to SharePoint

I'm trying to deploy a simple .asmx web service to SharePoint with the ultimate goal of consuming it with an InfoPath form. The server is SharePoint 2010 beta and the development is being done with VS 2010 beta. I have built the web service and can test it on my local machine. The methods work and I can successfully view the WSDL with the Service Description Link. I have have built the WSDL and DISCO, modified them for SharePoint and deployed them along with the .asmx file to the _vti_bin folder of my SharePoint Server per the Microsoft Walkthrough instructions. I don't have a .dll to deploy to the GAC. When I browse the deployed .asmx file, I see the test page with the list of methods. However, when I try to add ?WSDL or ?DISCO to the URL (or use the Service Description link), I get a page not found error (404). Looking in the web server log, I see that the file wswsdl.aspx or wsdisco.aspx are being called and then are returning a 404. As I understand it, these two files are called to interpret the ?WSDL or ?DISCO querystring parameters and convert them to the *wsdl.aspx or *disco.aspx file names in the directory. This is working fine for other web services already deployed to the directory. So the big question is, what am I missing? I'm not sure what to look at next and I'm pretty green with web services (although I did this on a MOSS 2

Meetings.asmx web service to inherit parent site permissions

I am using the Meetings.asmx web service to create a sub site. Unfortunately this does not provide a mechanism to inherit parent site permissions, it just creates a sub site with unique permissions which is not what I want. In order to inherit the parent permissions I am using the Permissions.asmx. Can someone please provide some sample code on how to do this, I tried various mechanims through the Permissions.asmx but does not seem to be able to get it right.
