Web Deploy: IIS6 to IIS7 Migrations + Link Extensions

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Recently I was having a conversation with one of Web Deploy (MSDeploy) users and an interesting scenario came up.  He essentially wanted to move his site from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7 and wanted to consider Web Deploy to do this.  In addition he actually was fine with just xCopy-ing the site's content from IIS6 server to IIS7 server as it was almost 6GB+ in size and trying to create a zip package for it was not most the optimal way of using resources, nevertheless creating a zip package using Web Deploy for just the IIS configuration is what was certainly desirable due to ease of portability & use. I thought this would be a good opportunity to write a quick note to share with you that migration from IIS 6 to IIS 7 was one of the original...(read more)

Detecting a page close using GetCallbackEventReference IIS6/IIS7 Issue

I have a popup page that when closed,  initiates a server side function that updates a DB table.  After looking at countless posts, I was able to use the following code (partial) to generate the callback when the window closes. The problem I'm having is that it works great on a server with IIS7, but the event doesn't fire on one with IIS6. Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load    If Not IsPostBack Then        Dim callBackReference As String = Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(Me, "arg", "LogOutUser", "", True)        Dim logOutUserCallBackScript As String = "function LogOutUserCallBack(arg, context) { " & callBackReference & "; }"       Me.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Me.GetType(), "LogOutUserCallBack", logOutUserCallBackScript, True)    End If  End Sub      Public Function GetCallbackResult() As String Implements System.Web.UI.ICallbackEventHandler.GetCallbackResult               Return _callBackStatus    End Function     Public Sub RaiseCallbackEvent(ByVal eventA

How to deploy SharePoint solutions using different versions of ajax extensions in a common SharePoin

We have a common SharePoint server which runs an internal SharePoint site. Our teams deploy their SharePoint products in the server and add it to our site. Some products user .net framework 2.0 and some products use .net 3.5. So they enable ajax extenisons for the site for .net 2.0 which adds the entries for the assembly System.Web.Extensions version 1.0.61025.0 where as our version will be Because of the difference we get an ambiguous error while running the web site.

How can we deploy different products using different versions of Ajax extensions in the same site?

Navigation differance under iis6 and iis7

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but after talking to the online concierge this was the best place to start.

We are using the following code to load a page in a frame under iis 6 and it is working perfectly, however when we try and move this to iis 7 it no longer works. Instead of getting to the correct url the server name portion seems to be getting stripped out.

Starting on http://localhost:86/External/CustomerSplash.aspx I click on an item that causes the below code to execute and get a "server not found" error with a mangled url http://external/CustomerSplash.aspx?Page=CustomerService. If I put the missing server name portion in it works correctly.  IIS 7 on server 2008, 4.0 app pool running in Integrated Mode.

 Master.FindControl("frame").Visible = true;
      if (Request.Params["Page"] == "CustomerService")

How to Deploy WCF service(developed using VS2010) on IIS7.0 as a RESTful Service.

Hi Guys,

I am new to WCF development, and i just developed a WCF service using VS2010 as per my client's urgent requirement. They need a RestFul service , which reads data from an Publishing ShraePoint Library which has anonymous access. Intially i tried using the sharePoint built in restful service (LISTDATA.SVC), but as it looks for authentication, it is failing to provide data.

Coming back to the problem, I have developed the wcf service and its working well on wcfclient. I need to deploy this on IIS7.0 as a restful service.

Any guidence and leads would be helpful. This is a bit urgent too.

SMTP not working if I use web deployment package to deploy my app.

Hi all

I use msdeploy to install my web app. deployment package. everything about web app works, but find out email was not working.

I checked telnet smtp is running.

I debug the project, and it was sending out email too.

So my solution was upload the whole project (not complied) to wwwroot, and email works too. Thats why I assume the deployment cause the problem.

at last, I also tried to copy the web deployment web.config to replace the project's web.config, and the email also work, so it wasn't the web.config problem.

Could anyone tell me whats going on?
