Remote debugging problems

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I'm having remote debugging problems. Here is what I've done so far:

Set CLR Enabled to 1 on the target server and executed Reconfigure.
Setup the Visual Studio 2005 Remote Debugger as a service on the target server, log on set to  the same user id/password that I'm using on the client machine. User is in administrator group on both machines.
Ensured that Remote Procedure Call and Remote Procedure Call Locator are started on the server, log on as Network Service.
Created a VS database project on the client and added a stored procudure, during this created a server connection to the target server.
Checked application and SQLCLR debugging for the connection.
Added code to insert a record.
Modified the test.sql script to execute the stored procedure.
Verified that I'm in the debug configuration and not a release configuration.
Set a break point on the first line of code.
Press F5.

In the Output window in VS I get:
The thread 'servername [55]' (0x14e0) has exited with code 0 (0x0).
Debugging script from project script file.

The thread 'servername [55]' (0x14e0) has exited with code 0 (0x0).
The thread 'servername [55]' (0x14e0) has exited with code 0 (0x0).
Auto-attach to process '[1288] [SQL] servername' on machine 'servername' succeeded.
'sqlservr.exe' (Managed): Loaded 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How to Install Remote Debugging for a WPI installation?

I just ran the Web Platform Installer on my Windows 2003 Server and now I want to install remote debugging on it so I can debug some WCF services that are going to be running on it.  I want to debug them from my development PC.  The WPI did not give me the option to install remote debugging, so how do I get remote debugging installed on my server now?

Problems with a .NET4 Control GAC Reference failing at runtime but fine during debugging

I believe this question is specific to the CLR how ever I will test this in a Forms Application later. I have multiple .Net 4 Targeted WPF Applications that Reference Non Microsoft .NET 4 WPF Controls that I can confirm are in the GAC. Everything Debugs Great (Noting that none of the references are copied to the output directory) and Install's well using a Setup Package and manually installing has the same effect even after a reboot. The problem is the application will not start even as an administrator as it does not find the Control References in the GAC. This also happens if I try to start the application manually in the visual studio output Directory. I can also confirm that opening the application in reflector that reflector is able to correctly find the references. Finally if I copy the controls (.dll's) to the location of the application everything runs as expected for all the above issues.   My question here is why is my application not able to load the .NET 4 controls from the GAC? Also note that everything uses a Strong Name.

Ask for remote Debugging in SQL Sever 2008

Now the ask windows no longer prompt. How can I get back the Sql server to ask me about remote debugging? Thankshon123456

Problems Debugging - Breakpoints being ignored

Am currently working on a Visual Studio 2005 web project, which is ignoring breakpoints - but only in certain parts of the application.

This is proving very frustrating as a deadline is looming!

My security is fine, set to Windows Auth, Anonymous access. ASPNET is in the Debugging Users group, normal debugging works just fine.

I understand the compilation mechanism has changed in .NET 2.0 - could this be affecting it.

To overcome the possibility it is executing stale code, I do a Clean Solution and then a Rebuild before I run it, just to be sure.

Any ideas?

Remote Debugging error while creating business data connectivity model

Hi Everyone,

                  I have a scenario where I have to get the data from two of the stored proc's in the SQL Server and create an assocation between those models.I cannot use Sharepoint designer as there is no relationship existing between those two entities.So,I have used visual studio business data connectivity model to fulfill this requirement.I created the model with filter descriptors,input parameters and all and related those as suggested by MSDN and used LINQ to SQL to pull the actual stored procedure into the readlist and readitem methods.My issue here is,when I debug this project,I am receiving an error message tht says "remote procedure cannot be debugged.this usually indicates debugging hasn't been enabled".Then I changed the debug entry in the web.config to true to solve this issue.But,still I received the same error...what do you think might be stopping me from going ahead..ur suggestions and tips helps me a lot..

Thanks all..

Remote access to SSAS (SQL Server 2008): problems with SQL Browser / UDP port 1434

Hello everyone,

since last Friday I'm fighting with an issue, which drives me crazy. I tried all the hints I found, but nothing worked. Now I address the community with a hope, that anyone can help me.

So, here is my situation: I have dedicated database server (server'S OS is Windows Server 2008, DBs are (1) SQL Server 2008 SE with all BI components, named instance and (2) SQL Server Express Edition, installed together with VS 2008), joined to our company's domain. My laptop is also in this domain. When I try to connect to the named instance of SSAS on that server from my laptop using SSMS or BIDS, connection fails. When I connect to SSAS on the server itself, it works.

What I did on Friday:

1) I opened all "SQL-server"-related ports in the server's firewall (including UDP port 1434 and TCP port 2382);

2) I tested UDP port with telnet (telnet <IP-address of the host> 1434) - ne response, neither localy nor remote;

3) portqry2 gives following output:
C:\PortQryV2>PortQry.exe -n <IP-address> -p UDP -e 1434

Querying target system called:

Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...

Failed to resolve IP address to name

UDP port 1434 (ms-sql-m service): LISTENING or FILTERED

ASP NET Remote Debugging

I have a website in ASP .NET running on a remote server in the LAN.

When I try to open in Visual Studio the remote website on this server from my local computer, it seems to be connecting. It says "opening website http://myRemoteServer/MyWebSite"

But then I get an error dialog box "Unable to open website http://myRemoteServer/MyWebSite. The webserver doesn't appear to have Front Page server extensions installed" and that's the end of it.

This website has been running for years, and I don't think anything uses Front Page for anything. If it would, and the server didn't have them, it couldn't run, right?

Am I missing something? I need to debug this website remotely. How can I work around this problem?

Thanks in advance,

remote debugging VS 2008 - no symbols have been loaded

I'm trying to remote debug an asp.net application (windows 7 dev, windows server 2008 remote host).  It has worked a couple of times for me, but it crashes very easily and it's extremely painful getting it to work again.  Short of rebooting both machines and deleting all temp files, is there some easier way to fix the problem in the subject line?  Essentially after it crashes i can no longer set any breakpoints.

Everything works fine using local debugging.

Top .NET Performance Problems and how to avoid them

Every time I work with one of our .NET customers to help them with managing their application performance I come across the same problems as seen with other clients before: lots of ADO.NET queries, many hidden exceptions in core or 3rd party .NET libraries, slow 3rd party components, inefficient custom code

How to Acess VSS from a remote Computer

Visual Studio 2008 Memory problems

Problems with Forms Authentication in DD 4 site

Hello,  I am seeing a strange problem with Forms Authentication in my DD site.   A user logs into and can view/edit/delete data all day, but when they execute a Custom Filter against data (for example , a control DynamicData/Filters/CustomerLastNameSearch.ascx ) then the site auth fails, and redirects to the log in screen.

in web.config I have

     <authentication mode="Forms">
            <forms name=".Star" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" protection="All" defaultUrl="~/Default.aspx" path="/" timeout="43200" cookieless="UseCookies" />

Offhand, I am thinking two things : that DynamicData/Filters path requires some special handling for some reason, or the control extension ascx is causing auth to get confused.   Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?  Thanks!

How do I preserve __viewstate between cross domain posts or how do I get a __viewstate of a Remote S

Here is what I want to do:
I have a local site in which I want to display data from a remote site
Lets say: I want to display data of http://www.abc.com/Default.aspx on my localhost

Now Default.aspx requires some post-data which it sends to itself. Thus the __viewstate and __eventvalidation are posted back to it by itself. I want to directly post the data to Default.aspx from localhost without opening Default.aspx and display the Default.aspx's response on my localhost.

The WebApp on http://www.abc.com is configured for __eventvalidation i.e. I cannot post-data to it from my localhost without getting a __viewstate from it. I also have to post the current __viewstate of http://www.abc.com/Default.aspx to itself

How can I accomplish it?

Problems posting to a package

Hey Y'all

I'm currently creating a program that accesses a mysql package to add data to a few tables.  I'm currently getting an error that says  "

ORA-01403: no data found
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 42
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 177
ORA-06512: at line 1

These lines are

and 177:add_team_members(V_PROJECT_ID, V_START_DATE, v_FISC_YEAR, V_MEMBERS ,V_NUM_MEMBERS,'add');

Checking these variables in my asp.net page they are all receiving parameters.

Is there a  way to see what the database is actually receiving from the asp.net page?

Or is there another thing to be looking at?

HttpHandler works with Visual Studio Development Server debugging, but not otherwise

Hi all,

I'm new to HttpHandlers.  I am writing an HttpHandler that reads uploaded files directly from the request stream to provide progress that can be queried using an AJAX request.  For large files, this seems to be faster than having ASP.NET load the file contents into Request.Files and then streaming the file from there to wherever it goes (Linq to SQL into a VARBINARY column in an SQL Server database.)

My HttpHandler works perfectly when I'm debugging using the Visual Studio Development Server, but doesn't work otherwise.  The application pool for this application in IIS 7 is set to run in Classic Mode, and the Handler Mappings screen in IIS says that I must manage managed handlers in system.web/httpHandlers.

I set up in my applications Web.config file.

<add verb="GET,POST" path="*.upload" type="Namespace.For.UploadHandler, AssemblyForUploadHandler"/>

It works great, so long as I don't debug with the "Use Local IIS Web server" option.

What else do I need to do to get this to work?
