WPF Custom Control template doesn't work

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

I've created a WPF custom control that goes in a DLL and I'm trying to use the control in another project.  Everything works fine except for the part of getting the control template to work. I should get an Orange background as defined below but the control just shows empty in the XAML editor and in runtime.

The code is as follows:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Windows;

namespace MyCustomControl
    public class CustomCtrl : System.Windows.Controls.Control
        public static readonly System.Windows.DependencyProperty ValueProperty;
        public string Value
            get { return (string)GetValue(CustomCtrl.ValueProperty); }
            set { SetValue(CustomCtrl.ValueProperty, value); }

        static CustomCtrl()

Ajax Asyncfileupload doesn't work as soon as I put it in a control

Hi guys,

I can't get my <ajax:asyncfileupload> working and I don't see why...

When outside any panel or table it is working well, but as soon as I put it in a <asp:panel> or table I get a strange error which seems to be on client-side but I don't understand what's happen here. Here is the code and code-behind and Javascript.

Here's the error:

Here's my front-code:

<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/masterpages/mpSqueletton.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="frmAdmGestSocietes.aspx.vb" Inherits="adm_frmAdmGestSocietes" title="Untitled Page" %>

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Custom field type - set value doesn't work when field is hidden

Hi, I have a simple custom field type which gets a value from the Property Bag and sets that value to a label. This works fine as long as the field is set to Optional (the field is a site column and is part of a site content type), but if I set it to Hidden, the value doesn't get set. public override void UpdateFieldValueInItem()         {             this.EnsureChildControls();               if (this.ControlMode == SPControlMode.New)             {                 this.Value = GetChosenConsole();             }         }   Does anyone know why this is and what I need to do in order for it to work even though it's hidden? Thanks!

Custom Web Part doesn't work with in anonymous access

Hi there, I have a custom webpart in a farm solution deployed to my site. Anonymous users should be able to view the site, however they can't because they are required to login due to the custom web part. If i remove the webpart from the page, anonymous users can view the site perfectly without the need to login. There is nothing really special about the webpart. It's a visual web part which uses the site and it's web data to display a sort of menu. Any idea? Thx in advance! Brecht

Missing Custom Control Library Project Template in Visual C# 2010 Express?

I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel and I want to add a Project for a WPF Custom Controls library. Note: The WPF Custom Control Item Template is included and can be added to a WPF Application project.

Does anyone know:

  1. Should the WPF Custom Control Library Template be part of this application edition?
  2. Where is the online documentation that states exactly which features are and are not included in each edition?
  3. What can be recomended as a work around?

Accordion control doesn't work

Hello. I am having quite a bit of trouble getting an accordion control to work. I downloaded the AJAX Control TOolkit (v 3.5), added the dll to my toolbox, and added an accordion control with the following code:

            <asp:AccordionPane ID="P" runat="server">
                   The President ...
            <asp:AccordionPane ID="VP" runat="server">
                <Header>Vice President</Header>
                   The Vice President ...                </Content>
            <asp:AccordionPane ID="T" runat="server">
                   The Treasurer ...                </Content>

My custom role provider doesn`t work

Hi guys.

Have a little problem. I`ve developed my custom role provider to have my implementation of it logic. But during the process i have a problem with this.

I implemented class CustomRoleProvider:

namespace CSSA
    public class CustomRoleProvider : RoleProvider
        public override string ApplicationName
            get { return "xxx"; }
            set { }

        /// <summary>
        /// Add roles to users.
        /// </summary>
        /// <param name="usernames">list of member which need to accept roles</param>
        /// <param name="roleNames">The list of role, which will be apply to user List</param>
        public override void AddUsersToRoles(string[] usernames, string[] roleNames)
            throw new NotImplementedException();

        public override void CreateRole(string roleName)

        public override bool DeleteRole(string roleName, bool throwOnPopulatedRole)
            return true;

        public override string[] FindUsersInRole(string roleName, string usernameToMatch)
            throw new NotImplementedException();

        public override string[] GetAllRoles()

RowCommand doesn't fire with webgrid in custom control

I have a custom control which contains a gridview with fields and a button field.

That custom control is placed on a page at runtime for more than 50 times in a panel (tried an updatepanel but didn't work neither)

Why doesn't the rowcommand fire when a button in the gridview is pushed?

Thx in advance,

Custom Control Design-Time SiteMap Provider Error

Greetings - I was referred here by MSDN forums hope this is the right place -

I have a custom control (:WebControl) that renders web.sitemap in a specific way. While it runs error free and produces the expected result, at Design-Time it complains

Error Creating Control - MyControl The provider 'AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider' specified for the defaultProvider does not exist in the providers collection.

I have discovered that the error is cause by this line of code:

string div = string.Format("<div class='{0}' id='{1}'>{2}</div>", this.CssClass, this.ID.ToString(), EnumerateNodesRecursive(SiteMap.RootNode, level));

or more specifically, by the reference to SiteMap.RootNode - I am not clear what is missing thoough because I have configured the SiteMapProvider in web.config as this:

        <add name="AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider"
             type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

I want to use an image inside a Custom Web server control !

Do I need to use Web.resources ? if so , how to do ?

Custom Server Control Property not maintaining state

I have created a server control consisting of a TextArea and a div under it.  My goal is to create my own asp:TextArea type control.  the div is for a Character count of the text area and seems to work ok but i added a CharacterCountVisible property to the control that is always returning true.  See Proptery definition below

<Bindable(False), Category("Appearance"), DefaultValue("True"), Localizable(True)> Property CharacterCountVisible() As Boolean
        Return _CountBoxVisible
    End Get
    Set(ByVal value As Boolean)
        _CountBoxVisible = value
    End Set
End Property

Note the _CountBoxVisible variable is define inside the class as :

Dim _CountBoxVisible as Boolean = True

What I am trying to do is give the user/coder the option to show/utilize the char count feature.  Can make it disappear with textarea1.CharacterCountVisible = False but setting it to true will not make it display.

What am i missing

Category attribute of user control property does not work correctly in categories tab.

I have a User Control (ascx) and a property which a want to display in my categories tab in Visual Studio in the category named "Styles".

[Category("Styles"), DefaultValue(""), Description("The value for formating something.")]
public String MyFormatProperty
set { /* the code for set */; }
get { /* the code for get */; }

And here is the problem: Actually I do not need a get, because I only have to set the property (write only property). But when I omit the get, the property is displayed in the "Misc" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio. Only when I code the get as well, then the property is displayed correctly in the "Styles" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio.

Does anybody know why? How can I display the category correctly only with set?

Thanks, S.

Custom Control Design view error

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.

Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'

This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.

Property Code Example:

public string Text
                string ret = "";
                object obj = ViewState["Text"];
                if (obj != null)
                    ret = obj.ToString();
                return ret;
                ViewState["Text"] = value;

I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.

I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it

Extend ASP.NET: Simplify Data Binding In ASP.NET 2.0 With Our Custom Control

The wwDataBinder control addresses simple control data binding--binding simple form controls like textboxes, checkboxes, and the selected values of list controls to individual data or object values.
