Read old version of a document with excel services

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

In a version-control enabled document library full of excel spreadsheets (xlsx); I am trying to read values from it.

I have no problem with the latest document, (because I couldn't find anyway to reach the documents but the URL of them with OpenWorkbook method) the latest version's URL is simple like "http://spsite/excel library/file.xlsx" and the old version is like "http://spsite/_vti_history/512/excel library/file.xlsx".

And the old version cannot be opened and giving me the error:

The file that you selected could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name and verify that the location is correct

Is there any way to deal with it and open. The same method can open spreadsheet and take the data from it, but when it comes to the old version it cannot find the file.

I think, there must be a permission issue on this thing for the old versions but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance. I hope you guys can show me the light..

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Read data from Excel Document

Hello everybody.

I want to read Excel document using C#. I am not a professional so I need examples to learn the technique. If anyone provides useful link, information, api library, tutorial it will be very helpful to me.

Thank you very much.

site member group can only open read-only version of the document

Hi there,

According to this video:
more than 1 person can open a word document and edit it at the same time.

When I test it, it doesn't work.
I can open it fine but my colleague can only open a read-only version.
We're both using Office 2010.
I found out that I'm part of OWNER group, while the other guy is just a MEMBER group.

I've checked the permission for MEMBER, it has "contribute" permission, which allow him to edit document library:
<label for="idspnidEditListItems">Edit Items  -  Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and customize Web Part Pages in document libraries. </label>

If I add him to OWNER group, he can work on it like the one on the video (link above).
Or, I can add individual user and assign DESIGNER role to it.

My question is: why he has to be in the OWNER group (or DESIGNER role)?
since we have many people working on the document but only 1 person to be included in the OWNER group, it's not a good idea to add everyone to OWNER

Workflow doesn't kick off from document created by Excel Services

I have a workflow created that should pop up when a new item is added to a list.  This works fine if I just add a new item to the list manually.  It also works fine if I start the workflow manually, but it defeats the purpose.  All the workflow does is assign a few tasks, send a few emails, and change the permissions for the document.  As a reference, I created the form in InfoPath with excel services calls and I created the workflow in SharePoint Designer 2010.

However, my list is mainly populated by Excel Services calls - opening a workbook and calling SaveWorkbookCopy - and for some reason, these calls do not kick off the workflow.

I tried changing my account (because the documents appear to be created by me) to a system account, but then it doesn't kick off anything.  I tried changing the Web App user to a System Account, but it still doesn't work either.

My workflow shows: the "Failed on Start" error (says it was canceled by System Account) and when I look in the logs it shows:

08/03/2010 13:45:26.69     w3wp.exe (0x1A78)                           0x1B1C    SharePoint Foundation         &nb

Display the Version of a MOSS 2007 Sharepoint document in Word 2007 and Excel 2007

Do somone have a step-by-step solution to this problem;   I have a liberary in SharePoint with version controll. In this liberary I have both Word and Excel documents.  Displaying the metadata from created columns are no problem, but  displaying the Version of the document generated by SharePoint is worse.  I do appreciate if someone can help me with this problem.

Read Excel file from Web Application (C#)

I have a web app where user uploads a file.

File is saved in server locally and I want to read some data from it.

Currently my development  server has office 2003.

So do I need office 2007 in order to be able to  read an excel from office 2007 ?

What are other requirements  ?

I tried a test, using

Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook wrkBook; // = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook();

wrkBook = excelApp.Workbooks.Open(@"C:\www\excel_files\b.xls", ....);

But When trying to open the file I get the error:

Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

So I'm wondering what I'm missing.

How to read value of CheckBox in EXCEL sheet

I am using OLEDBConnection (@"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;") to connect to the EXCEL file and read contents. When I read the contents, I get all the contents from the excel sheet but i dont get contents for checkboxes placed inside.

My Excel sheet contains set of checkboxes and I need to know If they are checked or not. These checkboxes are controls which are added from Developer tab in EXCEL.

I dont want to use Excel Assemblies for reading contents as it is not recommended. And also i am using OLEDBconnection and want to stick to this .

Awaiting replies from you guys. Thanks in Advance.

How to read Excel table?

If I  use Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to retreive for example named range or sheet from Excel and use it as data source for some server control on the ASP page, everything works fine. But when I try to get table from Excel like this: "select * from [Table1]", debugger complains that database engine could not find object Table1. So how should I reference Table1 in Excel file so that the database engine could find it?

SharePoint: Add a Recycle Bin to Windows SharePoint Services for Easy Document Recovery

Windows SharePoint Services helps improve collaboration and workflow while protecting documents and intellectual property. But one feature is conspicuously missing - an easy way to back up and restore deleted files from document libraries. In this article, the authors take advantage of the extensibility of WSS and its server-side and client-side object models to build a restore feature that works like the Recycle Bin in Windows Explorer.

Approve/Reject a document using Sharepoint web services

Is there a way to approve / reject a file that has been published on sharepoint 2007 using web services only?

Say there is a document 'A.xls' that was published as a major version by the author. I want the admin to be able to approve/reject it from a site outside the Sharepoint application. I know there is a workflow involved in this, but is there a web service that exposes the functionalities attributed to this workflow?

Reporting Services in SharePoint integration - configurtion errors in 64bit version

We have build an MOSS 2007 environment on 64 bit servers. We build the reporting services server and configured in SharePoint integration mode. Initially configuration looks fine with reporting services integration with green indicators.

After creating a web application and accessing the web site from the report servor, i have found the following errors:

Check-out issue when opening a document from a document library when a read-only copy is open

We have an issue when a user has a read-only copy of a document from SharePoint open and then tries to check-out and edit another copy of the document (i.e. from the document library) the checked out copy is not connected to the web server. For the user it will look the same they will make edits, save and then close, but when they do so the document is not updated in SharePoint - it may be saved locally in their SP drafts, but the user will think that they have lost their version. We then get the checked out to another user error and you have to discard changes to get the document working again. Steps to reproduce this issue: * click on the name of a office doc on a Document Library * Make sure "Read Only" is selected and click "ok" * Minimize open document * click on the same file on the Document Library * Make sure "check out and edit" is selected and the "Use my local drafts folder" checkbox is ticked. Select OK. * Edit document and press save. Changes are never saved back in SharePoint, they are only on the local draft. We are using MOSS with SP2. Clients are on Office 2003 and 2007 Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening?
