The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am getting this error when I deploy a BCS feature generated by BCSMetaMan:

The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature Feature_Feature1 to the URL of the desired site and retry activation.

Searching the Internet tells me I need to put in a property in my feature file that sets the default site. However, what if I need to be able to deploy this other sites. Is there a way to set the value so it will use whatever site is the solution is being deployed to?

SiteUrl feature property error when using BCS/BDC Model in VS 2010 Beta 2

Hi
I'm having this problem, and im not sure if this is a bug or im supposed to do something.

When creating a BDC (BCS) model in VS2010 Beta 2, VS adds a property called "SiteUrl" to the BDC feature properties (You can find that in the properties panel when you select the BDC model item in solution explorer).
This property is causing a problem when i try to deploy the package to another server; obviously because it is storing my development machine site Url and when it gets activated on the other server (test server) it will throw an error saying that the site does not exist.
The workaround that i do is to remove that property and create the package, which works fine, but then if i close VS and reopen the solution again, the SiteUrl property comes back again.

I can also see that this will cause a problem if other developers are working on the same code. They will basically get that SiteUrl on their machine which might point to another developer's machine.

Any comments on this?

Using SharePoint Search feature in ASP.Net Application

Integrating ASP.Net application in to MOSS 2007 to utilize SharePoint Enterprise Search Feature can be done by using Business Data Search.

Automatically set a property value for a new record in a Dynamic Data application.

I have a SalesOrderItem table, and it has a UnitPrice column in case the salesperson wishes to override the unit price of the Product for that order item.

In an ASP.NET Dynamic Data application, what would be the best way to set that UnitPrice property on a new SalesOrderItem based on the standard UnitPrice for the product? In other words, when the user clicks New on the 'Items' screen for a sales order, the UnitPrice field should already be filled in with the normal unit price for the product.

This was originally asked by myself on StackOverflow at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3538234/automatically-set-a-property-value-for-a-new-record-in-a-dynamic-data-application

Retracting feature which deployed custom master page delete default.master

Hi, I am not sure if solution to this issue is already posted? I have my feature which copy my custom.master which is copy of default.master from hive to master page gallery of web. The problem is that everything works fine with feature activate and deactivate but when I retract the solution from the server. All pages except site settings page stop working saying "file not found". I redeploy the solution, it starts working again. Looks like the retract is deleting default.master as well? I have this issue in 2010 as well. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Kashish

Default Application "does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point"

Hi, When I create a brand new WPF application project in Visual Studio 2010 and immediately try to run it, I get the error WpfApplication1.exe does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point. App.xaml's build action is set to ApplicationDefinition. I think it's not generating App.g.cs. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Default FontFamily for application

I want to create at style that will set the fontfamily for my entire application and allow me to change the font family in one place and have the new font show up throughout my application.  I created the following style but my controls like my labels still default to segoe.  How can I create a style that will set my all my controls to the same font family except where I override the style with a local style.

 <Style TargetType="{x:Type Control}">
   <Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Constantia"/>

How to set the default culture Info for all thread of an application independant from the Windows UI

A classic 'european' topic?

I am working with Windows7Pro in German, and VS2010 in English. I whish I had all exception handling in english.
Thus, I set the explicly the current culture to english:
 var culture = new CultureInfo("en-us");
 Application.CurrentCulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = culture;

But I do still have some exception in German, because 'by design', .NET Framework considers the Windows UI language as default culture when a new thread in created (e.g. by GUI controls), as I read here http://www.dotnetmonster.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/winform/14177/setting-culture-of-threads

What is the motivation for such a design? It has always been a problem for us in Europe working with multi languages: it is quite difficult to ensure the software is working properly whereever it is rolled out.
Is there a way to define the default culture of all children threads?

Unable to pass default network credentials from a .NET / SharePoint application to Web Services

When the application calls the web service, the default network credentials need to be passed to the web service to get authenticated to use the data repository. This web service is used for searching a data repository depending on the logged in user's credentials and search query.

We have made necessary changes required in the applications like.

Necessary changes in web.config (like authentication mode to Windows, impersonation is made true). Install client certificates to the trusted location.

Change Default Sort for Dynamic Data Web Application

Hi,

I just created a dynamic data web application and setup a simple .EDMX file. Next, I created meta-data / partial classes to ensure that my integer identifiers wouldn't show up:

// ...

[ScaffoldColumn(false)]

public object TableId { get; set; }

 // ...

I wanted to now set the up the list pages so they sort using a different attribute ("Name" in this case). Anyone know if this is possible / how to do it?

Thanks!

Kevin

Application Hangs with the default font "Segoe UI"

Hello All,

I got a problem after installing VS2010, i have already reinstalled VS2010 but the problem persist and now it occurs on VS2008 too.

In my application (WPF and .NET 3.5 SP1) when i open one of the application screens. The application hangs and stopped to work. I discovered that this is because of a GroupBox that have in text Header a Fontsize=16, if i let the fontsize default the problem dont occurs, i use default font "Segoe UI".

I did some testing and discovered that if I simply create a new application in WPF and .NET 3.5 and add a button on the screen and increase the font size of button to size of 14, 16 or 18, when I give F5 the application will hang. In design mode its works, but when i run the application its presents the problem.

The font dont have any problem because i can use it normally on "Notepad" or "Word" and when i create a new application in WPF and .NET 4 its works perfectly, it just give problems in .NET 3.5. Anyway i already reinstalled the Segoe UI font too.

If i change the font to Segoe UI Symbol or any other and change the size to 14, 16, 18 its works normally, just with the default font Segoe UI and font

Error when deploying a BCS model - SharePoint wants the SiteUrl property set, but it should not be n

Hi all,

We are getting the following error message when trying to deploy a BCS model as a feature:

The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature xxx_yyy to the URL of the desired site and retry activation.

The problem is apparently the missing SiteUrl property on the feature, which is needed to locate the BCS service - but we have deployed many times before without this property! The problem with this property is that it's environment specific, so setting it would make our WSP only good for one specific environment.

According to the following thread, we SHOULD be able to deploy BCS models without the SiteUrl feature (at least in RTM):

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010programming/thread/9dce4952-479e-455a-b6da-a1c954e10d09

Any idea on how this can be solved?  Adding the SiteUrl is not an option since we can't possibly create separate WSPs for different environments.

Thanks,
Christoffer

use the default sql services in a console sequential workflow application

Hello all,

I have configured my console workflow application to use the default sql service. However, when I run it in VS2008, it generates a TypeLoadException:

"Can not load type "System.Workflow.Runtime.Hosting from assembly System.Workflow.Runtime, Version=3.0.0000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=xxx"

So, my concern is

  1. How to configure a workflow application to use the default sql service?
  2. Are there any requirements for SQL version? Is there any settings we need to configure in SQL server?

Some tips

  1. my current app.config file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <configuration>
     <config
