What is the most suitable SP forum?

Very roughly General is for Pre-Sales and other kinds of General questions. This therefore includes things like which SharePoint versions there are; Licensing; asking for general suggestions on which approach to take; and questions on "is there a product for X?". It also includes questions on Application Templates because these aren't part of the installed product and thus don't fit in for instance Admin.

What it doesn't include are questions on a specific problem - "I can't access the SP site"; "I'm getting error message Y"; Where is Z in Central Admin?; stsadm questions etc. etc. All specific questions that aren't about anything covered in forums like Search; Workflow etc. and that are connected broadly speaking with Administration, go to the Setup..Admin forum.

I'm pulling out my hair, hard to find a suitable mvc sample application to learn from

I've noticed several samples in the url:http://www.asp.net/mvc/application-developmentbut,nerddinner seems too hard for me ;MVC MusicStore cannot run in my computer. seems it use sql2008&i have sql2005 installed in my computerASP.NET MVC Storefront Starter Kit        even worse  after i've download the source code from codeplex as told by the author, just find that I  can not compiled it  in vs2010(it's deveplopped using vs2008)and it seems out of date(the project begun at 2008),actually i wanna find a sample written after 2010.And I hope the sample is classic   and easy to learn,  and the technology used should not turn out to be a past after a new version of mvc or .net framework released.Anyone can help me out?

Tips on using the SQL Server Security forum

I am collecting here a few tips on using this forum. The tips are actually pretty general, they're not really specific to SQL Server or to this particular SQL Server Security forum. 1. Verify that you are posting to the right forum. Check the list from http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/default.aspx?SiteID=1 to see whether there is a more appropriate forum for your discussion topic. By posting to the appropriate forum, you will be able to get an answer to your questions faster. 2. Try to avoid crossposting or posting the same issue several times. Do a search to see if your question was already answered. If you receive an answer on another forum, please update or remove your other posts on the same subject. 3. Please mark the posts that answer your questions using the "Mark as Answer" button. This will allow other readers to quickly identify the useful information in a thread. There can be more posts marked as answers in a single thread! 4. If you have posted on this forum but cannot find the post in it anymore, then it might have been moved to another forum. Check using the "My Threads" link: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/User/MyForums.aspx?SiteID=1; it will show all the posts you've made and it will allow you to track a post that was moved to another forum. Also, consider enabling email notifications when a response is made to the threads you initiate. 5

Is there an official and supported forum where I can ask a PowerPivot question?

I have a question about installing the SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel add-in. I realize that there is a Microsoft forum specifically for this add-in at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel/threads, however, that forum is not listed on the MSDN Subscriptions page of forums with Priority Subscriber Support. I asked my question there but no one responded to me. Is there a forum with Priority Subscriber Support where I can get an official response for my question? Basically, I can't get the add-in to install on Windows 7 64-bit, for either the 32-bit version of Excel 2010 (my preferred scenario) or even the 64-bit version of Excel 2010. I mean, it installs fine but Excel won't load it. Thanks, Chuck

Forum UI and Legibility

I hope someone re-considers a few of the UI conventions used in the asp.net forum. As it is now, the blue text on blue backgrounds and the black text on blue backgrounds make legibility an issue. The blue gradients used in some headers are also a tad overwhelming; perhaps something more subtle would do. The MS User Interface Guidelines include the statement:                    "As a general rule, if a layout element can be eliminated without                     harming the effectiveness of the UI, it probably should be."http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511279.aspxCompare different versions: https://sites.google.com/site/aspnetforumui/forumscreenshotsSo instead of this...https://5573569620125600026-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/aspnetforumui/forumscreenshots/ms_forum_1.jpg?attachauth=ANoY7cqje13jCiSTQvzCtx_h1mrHeTPzFowbw175FJpdejRBYdPzOnefBl709S1U_Li4-w8nLId5KdNMF_e4BGV9y6wvkcZCqOy-4AbC_at9KRSl2Ps3SKcRE9Vl_iSQH0QRuCmvi30shu2dTR7J_Md4D06aKVDgTeCvnSHb-rt8MaGSFWKKrpQ0nHAPjmeqZFRF8L6Ga1YU87VxY2Fgb2jUDIEjHlT2xKgi2DTTVZedbtcTGpm8lfk%3D&attredirects=0...maybe something more subtle such as this: https://5573569620125600026-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/aspnetforumui/forumscreenshots/ms_forum_2

Welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability Forum

(Edited 8/14/2009 to correct links - Paul)Hello everyone and welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability forum. The goal of this Forum is to offer a gathering place for SQL Server users to discuss: Using backup and restore Using DBCC, including interpreting output from CHECKDB and related commands Diagnosing and recovering from hardware issues Planning/executing a disaster recovery and/or high-availability strategy, including choosing technologies to use The forum will have Microsoft experts in all these areas and so we should be able to answer any question. Hopefully everyone on the forum will contribute not only questions, but opinions and answers as well. I'm looking forward to seeing this becoming a vibrant forum. This post has information to help you understand what questions to post here, and where to post questions about other technologies as well as some tips to help you find answers to your questions more quickly and how to ask a good question. Firexfox and SharePoint Forum - a reply shows html code

When users use Firefox to view SharePoint and are replying to a post of the forum\discussion board the reply box and view box already has the HTML code in. For instance the body field contains:- <div><br/><br/><hr/> <b>From: </b>Kevin Shilling<br/> <b>Posted: </b>03 August 2010 15:17<br/> <b>Subject: </b>CHRISTMAS IS COMING...<br/><br/> <div>Yes, I know it is only August but thinking ahead what do you think about hosting our annual Open Evening for local neighbours, suppliers and friends and family. Do you think it is a good idea or not? Let me have your thoughts before the end of September when planning usually starts.</div></div> Anyone come across this and found a fix? Regards Mike

"Access Denied" and RunwithElevatedPrivilages issue (Yes, I've found the other posts in the Forum)

I just *KNEW* I had found a fix for my issue in the forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointdevelopment/thread/c3d2b304-7fcc-40d2-86ce-61d9b21b03d7/ However, I've tried every suggestion made in this thread and *still* get issues in that the 'normal' end user cannot see the form. I have any overly simple form in the layouts folder with a lable and a table. I can write the Site Title to the label, and need to add rows to the table, one for each Site Owner (Full Control user) found for the site. This form will be available to anyone with access to the site. However all I get is: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) I have confirmed the application pool identity is the correct service account for the farm.  Here is the code I'm using; can anyone advise where I'm stepping on my own toes? protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { try { SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges( delegate() { using (SPSite site = SPContext.Current.Site) { site.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; SPWeb web = SPContext.Current.Web; web.Site.CatchAccessDeniedException = false; thisSiteTitle.Text = web.Title.ToString(); //FindSO(web); //BEGINNING OF COPIED FINDSO CODE writeToEventLog(app, "2", "2"); ArrayList allOwner
