Using Infopath rules and filters off an XML data source

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi Everyone:

Using InfoPath browser based form, I have an drop down menu connected to another list using an XML data source (I am doing this so I can use the view to control the data in the drop down menu).

When the user selects a value from a drop down, I also want other fields in the form to populate with the corresponding data for that item from the other list. I can't get the filters to work and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I originally had just a regular secondary source for the list and the filters worked just fine but I need to use the XML source so all items will show up in the drop down, not just part of the list. So the XML data source shows odd field names like ows_Project_x0020_Number in the zrow of the XML source. I set up all the filters but when I select an item from my drop down the other fields are only showin the first items from the list and not filtering to my selection.

Hope you can help.

SharePoint Data Source for InfoPath Issue

I've setup an InfoPath form which uses web services to pull an XML data source into the form.  The form works great internally, but when users on the extranet try to use it they get a "Cannot Access Data Source" error.  I have tried connecting to the web service via the extranet and it works just fine, but as a data source in the InfoPath form, extranet users cannot access it.  I've tried using both the intranet and extranet paths to the web service with no luck.  Any ideas?

Testing InfoPath Forms with Rules using GetCommonMemberships Data Connection

I have my first InfoPath form coming up for testing. This uses a GetCommonMemberships data connection as a condition for various rules (for example, form load rules that switch views when the user is a member of a Packaging AD group). I’m not a member of any of the AD groups being used for these conditions and neither are the company’s QAs.

Because I’m not a member of any of the groups, I tend to set my rule up in reverse to check it. For example, if I have a rule where the DisplayName is equal to “domain\Packaging” (of which I am not a member), the control is not disabled for me. This assumes that the opposite is also true if I change the rule to is not equal to “domain\Packaging”. In other words, the control should not be disabled for members of that group but it should be for me.

How do you guys allow your QAs to impersonate different team members to properly test this without compromising the integrity of the form?

InfoPath The data source referenced in the form template is not valid

When I try to upload form template that uses “Data Connection”,  I receive the following error any idea “The data source referenced in the form template is not valid or not found”

Any idea ?

Trouble binding InfoPath "template part" to data source

I created an InfoPath template part using an XSD.  I added it to my custom controls, but when I try to insert it into the main template, it asks to be bound to a data source.  I have created a group to bind it to in the data source, and I created a "complete XML document or schema" based on the same XSD as well.  It matches the schema in the template part exactly.  The template part won't bind to either node.  I get the error message, "Requirements_Template_Part cannot be bound to the selected field or group."

This XSD is complex and contains a repeating table.  I read somewhere that this might be a problem.  Unfortunately , the XSD cannot be changed much though this is a format imposed on us from another group.  A coworker is writing a transform to cull out the data from this XSD and feed it into another system.  He says he will update the XSD from time to time, and I thought that a template part would make it easy for me to update it whenever he updates his XSD.

Sharepoint 2010 : Infopath rules and filters vs SharePoint workflows

I need to perform a lookup of a user creating a list item and fill out some of his properties automatically.  (such as company, departement, etc.)

I can imagine there are two ways to go ahead with this.   You can create Infopath filters or/and rules to lookup information.   I don't know whether it is possible to lookup information from Active Directory with this as well?   I do know it's possible to lookup information from another list.   I could of course use BCS to create a list within SharePoint and then use that.   Somehow that doesn't feel like the proper solution.

I can also use workflows that would start automatically and go ahead an retrieve user information in such a way.  I don't know whether this is the best option either.

Any advice / feedback would be much appreciated.

Best regards, David

Cannot submit an infopath 2007 data source to sql database using managed code - C#.

Is this possible?  I can submit the data source just fine using custom action rules either from a submit button on the form or from the submit button from the tool bar.

But when I try to use C# nothing below works, Main Connection is my data source.  I get unhandled exception errors when I run the form in debug

AdoSubmitConnection sc = (AdoSubmitConnection)this.DataConnections["Main Connection"];

WebServiceConnection sc = (WebServiceConnection)this.DataConnections["Main Connection"];

FileSubmitConnection sc = (FileSubmitConnection)this.DataConnections["Main Connection"];

However I can send an email just fine using ;

EmailSubmitConnection sc = (EmailSubmitConnection)this.DataConnections["Email Connection"];

Any help would be greatly appreciated

InfoPath 2003 - Populate Data Field based on text field from secondary/different data source.

I have a form where the main fields are populated based on the results of a query field.
Ex, Main Data (SQL) Source:

Fruit         Color
Apple       Red
Orange     Orange
Pear         Green
Banana     Yellow

Secondary Data Source (Sharepoint List)
Fruit         Code
Apple        1001
Orange     1002
Pear         1003
Banana     1004

What I would like to do is create form fields that will automatically populate based on the contents of the text field.
Ex,  (text field)   Please enter your fruit of choice:   [ Apple ]

(Field 2 - from main SQL data source)          The color of your fruit is [ RED ]

(Field 3 - from secondary Sharepoint List data source)  Your fruits code is  [ 1001 ]

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

InfoPath Data Source Issue with SP List

I have a problem with a drop down list in my InfoPath form that gets it's values from a list in SharePoint.  The error is:

The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: MasterList
InfoPath cannot run the specified query.
The SOAP message cannot be parsed.

I read several posts on the subject but none are exactly like this.  The last sentence indicates to me the XML is mal formed and can't be parsed.  Does anyone know the answer to this?

Empty Website Data Source windown

Hi all,

I am Visual Web Developer user and facing a problem when I am creating a local report (.rdlc) file.

I am using Business objects as the Data Source for this report. It was working perfectly until all the items in the Website Data Source window suddenly "disappeared". The "Add New Data Source" button on this window is also disabled. Now the window is just like a blank box only. And I can't continue working with the report file like this...

I have tried undoing what I did before but it does not help at all...

Any reason for this to happen? There is no sign or something at least indicating what is wrong.

Please help.

Infopath resets all data on a web from when submitting via the MAC

I'm seeing some very strange behaviour with some browser based Infopath forms.  The user is trying to fill the infopath form using safari on the Mac and when the user hits the submit button the form reset itself.

An other behaviour is that when the user click on a form field all the form fields will automatically populate one value.  This happen intermittently.

We have two load balancing web front ends. Server1 and Server2 the users that a reporting this problem get served by Server1 when I test on my Mac to replicate the problem the request get served by Server2. This problem occurs on different forms across the sharepoint implementation.

Can anybody shed any light on the problem?

The report cannot be opened because the data source associated with it is not a report model.

i tried to open a report i created in sql business intelligence development studio in the report builder in wss3 and it gave me this error:

Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportBuilder.ReportModel.Report: The report 'http://servername:port#/Reports/report.rdl' cannot be opened because the data source 'http://servername:port#/DataSource Library/datasource.rsds' associated with it is not a report model.

This report was not created in Report Builder. Try opening this report in Report Designer instead.

can i fix this so i can open my reports in report builder?

BDC as Source to the Infopath form

I have set up a bdc connection which retrieves info from HRIS. Now i need to populate a dropdown field in the Infopath form with the data collected from HRIS.

What are the ways a infopath form will know about the HRIS as well the Column that i need to bind?

Can a BDC connection be directly provided as a source in Infopath forms as we do for DataBase?

wss2.0 Infopath 2007 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least on

Hi all

I have a user who receives the error 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least one of these connections is not available. As specified by the form designer, this form will not open' when trying to Submit an infopath form located on a WSS2.0 site.

The user has been having this issue since upgrading to Office 2007 and IE7. I have had the user run an Office Diagnostics but this has not resolved the issue.

I am not aware of any other users experiencing this issue.

Any ideas please?
